Ontario starters did not play in the 4th quarter. I didn't notice why, but the Galion coach took Alsip out of the game early in the 3rd quarter and he did not play after that. It did look like he was forcing it a little, trying to keep up with Shaver's play. In 4 years he hasn't had a good game against Ontario's defense. I don't think he got to double figures tonight. Shaver had 21, all coming in the middle 2 quarters. Ontario won the JV game by around 25 and the Freshman game by more than 15.

He may have sat Alsip because the game was already out of reach and they have a winnable game today vs Northmor that was moved to 1:30. Probably just trying to make sure he's ready for today.

Kenton-36 Ontario-28 half
Ontario is not covering Kenton shooters. Looks like they are a little out of sync with a game last nite and early start.

Actually, Balogh's first defensive move was to start the 2nd quarter. He chose not to play Kenton's perimeter people as close as they were to start the game, keeping them from penetrating and dishing to their 3 point shooters. Who were wide open due to the players defending them helping on the guards getting by their defenders. Keeping the drivers in front of them allowed the guys on the 3-point shooters to stay close to their man. When wide open they were the best 3-point shooting TEAM Ontario has played. Since this was a non-league game, it actually looked like Joe wanted his team to fall behind by 8-10 and have to fight their way back. They couldn't against Shelby and Lex. In actuality they did come back within 2 against Shelby in the 4th, but couldn't get over the hump.
Ontario isn't going to win many games against good teams when Shaver only scores 6 points. That's what he had with 30 seconds left in the game, he finished with 9 due to made free throws. Cousins Kolten Kurtz and Jon Nagel made up the difference combining for 37. Nagel played possessed in the 2nd half. Joe's been waiting for him to come out of his shell and use his 6-4 200 pound athletic frame to do what this team has been lacking.
Ontario JVs win 63-42. Still haven't lost, even though their 6-5 post has been sick and didn't play the last 2 games

I saw them in one game and regardless of what a single player can score, being a good teammate and provide leadership in all areas of the game makes you the most valuable. Galion does not have that.

It sure looked to me like the coach was trying to tell him that what was best for the future of Galion basketball wasn't him averaging 25, but getting the younger players involved.
