Northwood will never go to the NBC if they cared about playing competition they wouldn't have got in to the TAAC long ago, all Northwood wants is to dominate terrible football teams. Plus they're in the old SLL and got out for the TAAC because they couldn't compete. Northwood was pushed, nudged or strongly encouraged out of the SLL just like Lakota and then Gibsonburg. The friendly AD's of Eastwood and Lake (with the cooperation of others) worked to get Lake added to make it a 9-school league which was a football scheduling disaster. They needed someone needed to leave and were hatching plans for more replacement schools. And many from those schools could share the the unfriendly if not hostile treatment received when visiting Eastwood and Lake by specific individuals. Very unfortunate since many neighborhood/family rivalries died when Eastwood and Lake quietly killed the SLL. Northwood never really filled the shoes of Oak Harbor but provided a nice neighborhood games for Genoa, Eastwood and Woodmore initially. The overall league was a pretty tight footprint with only BG City Schools creating an island in the footprint. BG "city" schools??

Ok. What about elmwood? Are they going to the BVC? I thought I read that.
Does this mean Maumee and BG to the NBC?
Ross and Clay to the NLL?

All sports. Full members. So that would bring the River division up to 11 schools for non football sports

So here is what the future holds then Football | Other Sports | SBC Lake Bellevue Clyde Norwalk Perkins Sandusky Tiffin Col. | SBC Lake Bellevue Clyde Norwalk Perkins Sandusky Tiffin Col. Vermilion | SBC Bay Edison Huron Oak Harbor Port Clinton Vermilion Willard | SBC Bay Edison Huron Margaretta Oak Harbor Port Clinton Willard | SBC River Fremont St. Joe Gibsonburg Hopewell-Loudon Lakota Margaretta Northwood Tiffin Calvert Woodmore | SBC River Danbury Fremont St. Joe Gibsonburg Hopewell-Loudon Lakota New Riegel Northwood Old Fort Sandusky SMCC Tiffin Calvert Woodmore |
BVC Arcadia Arlington Cory-Rawson Elmwood Liberty-Benton McComb North Baltimore Pandora-Gilboa Riverdale Van Buren Vanlue | NBC Eastwood Fostoria Genoa Lake Otsego Rossford | TAAC Cardinal Stritch Ottawa Hills
Non-FB: Emmanuel Christian Maumee VCD Toledo Christian
FB Only: Edon Hilltop Montpelier |
Could Maumee join the NBC? Maybe. But it is easier to run a league with 6 schools than 7. And with there being no other option I think the NBC would be fine staying at 6 for the time being. The problem for the SBC in this situation is that Toledo City schools may now rather schedule NBC schools rather than SBC. Also, with spots open in the NBC that is going to be enticing for Oak Harbor and a lesser extent Port Clinton. It will also be interesting to see what happens with the TAAC. I could see Ottawa Hills and Cardinal Stritch possibly playing a City League schedule for FB. Also will be interesting to see if there is any shake up with the NLL or TRAC as a result.

Since Jake brought up Yappi I had a look over there, and saw a post from a few months back that said Delta might be looking to join the TAAC. That would then open a spot for Napoleon to join the NWOAL.

Feel like the River would be better off breaking from the SBC and making their own league

Vermilion is already in the Lake. Year two of that.
River needs Bay/Lake for many of the other sports, especially tourneys (wrestling, track, golf, tennis).

Girls golf, tennis, soccer and swimming the River needs the Bay. Track was fine ( now too big for single heat of relays), wrestling now gets close to 8 schools but with incomplete rosters ( best as single SBC tourney) and boys golf is on its own. Very close to being able to have a separate league.

Anyone know if Woodmore and Northwood to the River is still moving along....or has this recent small school expansion push by the NBC gummed up the works?
Any chance of the tug of war going back in the NBC's direction with them trying to bring back former SLL members Northwood, Gibsonburg and Lakota?

The River schools want to see this through. Solidifies their division. No interest in NBC.

To me the NBC trying to add a few smaller schools does nothing but muddy the waters for them. Let those two schools go and move in another direction.

These two additions would bring the River back up to 8 football schools. However, what about SMCC? Last I knew they didn't officially join that 8 man Northern 8 league with Danbury because they wanted a 2 year commitment and SMCC thought there would be a chance of returning to 11 man ball soon. If they try to come back into the 11 man picture that would put the River Division at an odd number (7 with the current schools, 9 whenever Woodmore and Northwood start play)

They very well may go to 8-man, even as soon as next season.
