SJCC not making this move earlier caused some issues with previous expansion attempts. I don’t see SMCC making a comeback anytime soon.

I think 10 years from now we will look back at the addition of these two schools as what caused the River Div. to break away and have their own league

Thanks. These two additions would bring the River back up to 8 football schools. However, what about SMCC? Last I knew they didn't officially join that 8 man Northern 8 league with Danbury because they wanted a 2 year commitment and SMCC thought there would be a chance of returning to 11 man ball soon. If they try to come back into the 11 man picture that would put the River Division at an odd number (7 with the current schools, 9 whenever Woodmore and Northwood start play) Something also to consider is the state of Fremont SJCC football. They very well may go to 8-man, even as soon as next season. Any inside info to back this up or is this just your opinion? To my knowledge SJCC is not looking to go 8-man. They have around 25 kids on the team this year and based on the size of classes in the middle & grade schools those numbers should remain pretty consistent or even go up in the near future (the junior class is very small compared to the average class size). Granted, they are not competitive this year but that doesn't mean they are looking to go 8-man. If the OHSAA ever officially recognizes 8-man, I imagine many smaller schools would be on board and that would make it much easier to fill a schedule instead of playing the same teams twice or go to Michigan. They need to create a Division 8 for 8-man football.

They are pretty much their own league anyway with the security of flexibility when schools choose to leave. Its also a huge advantage for less popular sports like wrestling to compete in the SBC where they can fill out most weight classes with more than a few kids. I honestly can't think of one disadvantage of staying under the SBC "umbrella".

Both SMCC and SJCC were slow to make any decisions (obviously SMCC finally did) and it blew up an expansion attempt. I tend to believe that person. If the OHSAA sanctions 8-man I see many of the smaller schools going this route. And fast.

I honestly wish they would go 8-man, SJCC usually produces some nice athletes but they just don't usually have the overall size to compete with many other schools. When they do have the size, there is no depth and they are on the field both ways the whole game. 8-man could close that gap. But without OHSAA sanctioning and not many schools playing 8-man, I completely understand being hesitant with the scheduling mess.

I was told the numbers in the middle school are bad to the point that they had to consider (or did) cancel the rest of the season. Spicer was quoted in the paper as saying the numbers are good, but its the current 4th and 5th graders.

Woodmore has scheduled Lakota, Margaretta and Gibsonburg to round out their season.

Woodmore's week 8 matchup got changed to a make up league game against Lake, in which they got throttled 37-0.
Then they finished their season with wins over Margaretta and Gibsonburg. That's gotta have them feeling pretty good about a possible move to the River Division.

H-L should win this Division next year without breaking a sweat.

So how difficult is the SMCC/11-man attempt messing with SBC River Div. expansion? I hear this is causing an issue again?

It's time for SMCC to crud, or get off the pot.
