Thursday's Sandusky Register had a story on the front page regarding the team names at Bellevue and Port Clinton. After reading the sub-headline that read "Bellevue, Port Clinton leaders not ready to drop racist team mascots", I assumed it was only a matter of time before Westerhold would be writing an editorial telling the two schools it was time to make a change. Given Westerhold's history, it will become a recurring theme. In my opinion, school administrators and boards are dealing with something much more important this summer.

It has been reported that the Bucyrus Board of Education will discuss the use of the Redman nickname this week. I hope they do not cave to the PC crowd. However, if they do, I believe many other schools will follow suit

If Bellevue didn't cave in to Soccer, it's not caving in to anything.

The real impetus for keeping the status quo is the fear that a cool, unique mascot like the Whippets is too lofty an achievement to meet.

Westerhold is a moron and as left as you can get, loves to stir the pot with leftest agendas. Bellevue has the balls to buck the leftest agenda, not sure PC does.

If the powers that be forced Bellevue to change its mascot, people would still refer to them as the Redmen. A century of tradition will not be thrown away because some bureaucrats feel offended.

Bellevue ... an old rival from back in my day. In my opinion, still a rival today even tho the leagues have changed and the NOL is a distant memory. PLEASE Bellevue ... for the sake of an old rival ... DO NOT CAVE here. You will forever be the Redmen in my eyes!!

Bellevue born and raised.....wore that REDMEN uniform. I hate to say it but if admin would ever cave and change I’d be done supporting the programs or school district. I’ve voted yes on every levy and supported programs for years but I couldn’t support a district ran by cowards 🤷🏻♂️
With that said I’d be surprised if a change was made. Bellevue alums at almost every level from coaching, principles, AD and more. Couldn’t see how they could agree to a change.

Like you, I proudly wore the Redmen uniform, though it was “Southern Redmen” from Bucyrus. From the comments I see on social media, I would say most of Bucyrus would not like to see the change. But after watching a recent Board meeting via Internet, it looks like like the liberal PC Board is setting the stage for a change once COVID is done. For you sake, I hope your Board is not a bunch of PC liberals who will not throw away a hundred years of history. Regardless of what happens, Bellevue and Bucyrus will always be Redmen in my heart. Good luck

Gannet, which is US Today, I believe, and is the owner of the Bucyrus Telegraph Forum, has instructed their staff not refer to Bucyrus as the Redmen. Though the Board has not taken any action, yet, the news media has now decided what an appropriate mascot is for our schools. Beware, Bellevue, Port Clinton, and others. The news media is going to take away your mascot. Total Bullshit
