What is Lucas shaping up to be this year? The recent track record is enough for me to imagine they find a way to reload and be competitive. It goes without saying that a great D7 program (not named Marion Local or Minster) is usually going to struggle against a good D4 team, which is the relationship I see Lucas and Shelby having. I don't think it is silly to say Lucas could handle the bottom rung of the MOAC pretty easily though. Well, Lucas lost 5 All-Ohioans, including my son, Logan Niswander. In saying that, they bring back 4 solid O-lineman, a total stud at RB in Ethan Sauder, and a bunch of speed on defense. They are going to struggle to find a QB. They should compete very well though. Last year, Lucas and Shelby had one common opponent, Lima Central Catholic. The Whippets lost 55-41, and the Cubs lost 14-7 (on a goal-line stand), so that tells me they are pretty comparable talent wise. In saying that, I will be happy if Lucas can go 3-3, which I think is highly possible. 4-2 would be fantastic.

He was a PBR preseason All-American in baseball and had offers to pitch (90+ mph fastball) D1, but after their football run, he decided he wanted to play football. So, late in the game, we put together a highlight film and sent it out to every school in Ohio. With all the scholarship mostly gone, he received three (Ashland, Findlay and Walsh) D2 offers. He decided to go to Ashland. I think he will end up on the defensive side of the ball, but he was brought in as a QB. We shall see.

They have a nice baseball program if he decides to go that route

It just doesn't matter, everyone makes the playoffs. Less travel than Lucas usually has. The schedule should help prepare Lucas for their playoff run. Sadly, you're right. With everyone making the playoffs, stories like this one, if (big if) it happens, will be lost. Lucas won and it was a pretty big story around the area.

We had never beat CF (0-10 all-time). I still say with everyone in, some wins will not be weighted the same if you HAD to win to get in.

It's a good point but I always see the regular season as a different animal than the playoffs. many good things can happen in regular season that are attention worthy and record setting even if a team doesn't make the playoffs. This year those same teams can accomplish some great things in 6 games even though week 7 is a little different.

Are they planning to opt out, or just assuming a first round loss? Not to inspiring for the players either way. It's not like they were blown out by two average teams in their first two games.

By announcing ADs don't have to worry about taking any more calls from others looking to make contingency plans.
