With the OHSAA announcing a 6 game season and playoff tournament, how will this affect the 7 team MOAC. It would be necessary for all teams to play at least non conference game and not all conference teams. Thoughts???

Before this was announced, Galion’s week 9 game against KIPP Columbus was already cancelled. I’m assuming Pleasant’s game withem was also not happening.

I also assume that the 100 year plus rivalry game with Bucyrus will end. However, that is not necessary a bad thing. Back in my day when I proudly wore the Redmen uniform, the game was very competive. However, that is not the case today, since the programs are on different levels, which is not going to change anytime soon. With Bucyrus’s declining enrollment, and the fact that about a quarter of their students open enroll out, the game will remain very lopsided. I am sad if it does end, but glad that the kids won’t have to start off each year getting their butts kicked in by a far superior program.

According to Arbiter Live, Bucyrus has removed Galion from their schedule after this year. It shows Bucyrus hosting New London next year week 1. It is indeed a shame but you are correct. Both programs are in much different places.

Galion does not show a game for week 1 in 2021. They are playing Lima Central Catholic in week 9 at home next year, replacing KIPP Columbus and returning to 5 home and 5 away.

Bucyrus’ biggest problem is they’re land locked. Only what’s in the city limits is part of their school system. There are several neighborhoods on the edge of town that are either part of Wynford or Col Crawford school districts. And a large number of kids that do live in Bucyrus open enroll to either of those two districts. Galion loses kids to Crawford and Northmor, but not as many. And their district does extend out at least a little bit.

It's the city limits and developments that have expanded into the county school districts, but the school district boundaries do not follow and have not changed over the years.

Both programs are in much different places. I had an inclination that the contract between the two schools would end after this year. Maybe Galion should try to get Wynford on their schedule. Their high school enrollment I believe is larger now than Bucyrus, and there are a number of new homes being built in their district. Plus, their program is currently competitive with Galion. I imagine a game between those two schools would draw a decent Bucyrus area gate.

Wynford is now playing Pleasant as a week 1 game. Probably makes more sense for them than Galion.

Not this year. I think Wynford will be keeping Pleasant for week 1 once we get back to normal football scheduling which is the point I was trying to make.

I would have some personal objections to such a development, ha.
Lucas has their resume, but I am a little bummed out that Shelby misses out on a home date with Big Walnut and a missed trip to West Holmes. Those were definitely some unique teams for Shelby to play.

Ontario, Harding, Lex and Madison won't win a playoff game. They can play each other after they lose.

It does matter if a small D7 school can come into the MOAC schedule and go undefeated. It would be an incredible job since they play the recent top teams.

As Urban would say, this year is a "clown show". Six game season, everyone makes the playoffs, big gate tradition rival non-league games were eliminated. Lucas's original schedule is not much less challenging than this one. I believe it only had a couple of DVII teams on it. "Incredible job since they play the recent top teams." What the heck does that mean?? The Lucas AD and coach have been trying to put together a more challenging schedule anyway.
BTW, several of these schools would never consider playing Lucas in a regular season. Bigger schools don't want to lose to a DVII team.

Sadly, you're right. With everyone making the playoffs, stories like this one, if (big if) it happens, will be lost.

Lucas gets home games against Shelby, Pleasant, and Clear Fork. If it's gonna happen, this hand they got dealt can't get much better.

What is Lucas shaping up to be this year? The recent track record is enough for me to imagine they find a way to reload and be competitive. It goes without saying that a great D7 program (not named Marion Local or Minster) is usually going to struggle against a good D4 team, which is the relationship I see Lucas and Shelby having. I don't think it is silly to say Lucas could handle the bottom rung of the MOAC pretty easily though.

There is only one bottom rung, Ontario.
