Noon on FOX
Ohio State is 7-1 all time against Nebraska (5-1 Big Ten)
It's going to be weird seeing the Horseshoe empty today

I woke up this morning and when I remembered real football started today a little tear came to my eye. I understand the sentiment, but "real football" is not played in an empty stadium designed to hold 100K plus fans. Just won't be the same.

Of course, the game will be our central focus. Secondary to that, the creativeness of The Ohio State audio & video engineers, will be of some interest. The SEC and other conferences have merely needed to enhance the actual crowd responses to big plays. Filling that storied facility, wrought with an eery emptiness, will be most challenging.
Another poorly thought out decision was banning the marching bands. These student/musicians practice together all week long, but they are not permitted to emulate that procedure one more time, each week, in the empty vastness of Ohio Stadium. Instead, we viewers will be watching a videotaped rendition of the legendary 'Script Ohio' and perhaps a halftime performance. It's time for the nervous anticipation and excitement of yet, another Big Ten season and what we hope is the opening march to a Big Ten and National Championship.
LET'S GO BUCKS!

OSU needs to improve on short yardage situations. Can't keep relying on QB sneaks.
But anyway, Nebraska came to play today.

Nebraska could be biggest bunch of head hunters seen in quite awhile. Virtually every receiver is getting crushed up high

Nice dominating 2nd half by the Bucks.

Nebraska wasn’t going to win, but those calls were questionable. They may have met the letter of the law, but not the spirit. The first one was not. The second one was a maybe.
You know the old saying about porn. It’s hard to define, but you know it when you see it. The first targeting was a good football play. They second one he may have launched himself and lowered the head a bit, but there was minimal contact with the head. Get out the flag belts and put them on the receivers.

Sorry fan but respectfully disagree. NCAA rules interpretation says targeting is not just helmet to helmet, but leading with helmet, SHOULDER, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the HEAD OR NECK AREA. You can complain about ejecting a defensive player, but look at the replays and then decide given the rules as written and interpreted.. No need to lead with the shoulder and go for the head. Change the rules then.

The color commentator crying over every call that went Ohio States way, got very old, early on. His whining about the pass interference call on the attempt to Jeremy Ruckert was so wrong. He argued the pass wasn't catchable. Well yeah, Ruckert was blocked out of the play is why he wasn't within the realm of catchability....duh. Had he been allowed to run his route, it would have been very catchable. Bad call, it was not.

Two biggest concerns would be the run game and the defensive line. Fields was our best running back. It seemed like there were some holes that the running backs just didn’t see that last year Dobbins would have. And defensive line really didn’t get much pressure on the qb and were getting dominated most of the game. No Bosas and no Young so someone needs to step up.
And Fields is a top 5 pick. Only had one incompletion which was only dropped because of a hard hit in the end zone. And how good are our receivers? Olave, Wilson looked great and even end freshman Njigba had that crazy TD catch.

Change the rules then. I don’t disagree. As I said they were both violations by the letter of the law. The rule needs tweaked. The first call was not malicious. It ejected a kid playing solid defense. The second call was probably spot on. He unloaded with his shoulder and forearm. Turns out it mostly landed on the receiver’s shoulder. The second call probably got more coverage from the commentators because of the first.

I agree with Ron. Lack of explosive running back play was noticeable to me. Same on the defensive side of the ball, although it did improve as the game went on to a degree. I think the coaches are trying to figure out who their best players are on defense —- and clearly we are not there yet.
Steele Chambers had the best yards per carry. Only one pass to a RB that I recall. I’m not sold on either MasterTeague or Trey Sermon . Time and again it looked like they got less yards than they should have on plays.
Not a typical first game obviously so many different aspects of a season opener. I rewatched some of the first half highlights,, I think the OL for Neb is pretty good, Possibly better than the OSU DL at present. #5 Baron Browning takes terrible pursuit angles also. I wonder if he loses playing time?
I hate to get down on them too much as this was the first game only. I think Neb was probably better than we thought. Replacing our studs on defense may take some time.

Yeah lots to replace on defense. Not just Young but several others as well on the defensive line. It felt like I never even heard Jonathan Cooper’s name, he’s a 5th year senior that wasn’t even noticeable. Only one game though so we’ll see what next week looks like.

Olave, Wilson looked great and even end freshman Njigba had that crazy TD catch. Neither Sermon or Teague is the prototypical running back for this Ohio State offense and blocking scheme, both are taller, heavier and not as quick as Dobbins Ohio State's defensive coordinators are going to have to be more creative this year to get a pass rush. They'll have to do more than rush 4 and cover with 7 on pass downs, that they've relied on. There is NO ONE on this team with the fast twitch that Young or the Bosa have. As Urban recently said, "That's $90 Million worth of Defensive Ends Ohio State has had the past 5 years." None currently are worth close to that.

Tuf Borland doesn’t look any faster or quicker either. I won’t pretend to know more than the coaches but I just don’t understand the love of him so much. I’d love to see Teradja Mitchell get some more playing time.

He was hard on the refs all day. Everyone has a bad day, once in a while, I guess. They need to get a game announcer behind the mike.

It’s amazing to me how people can ***** after a 52-17 win over a decent opponent. Are there areas that need improving? Sure. Am I worried? Not with Fields and those receivers

I’d love to see Teradja Mitchell get some more playing time. 1st half, LB'ers were either misreading the gap or getting themselves blocked out of the play, on a regular basis. Borland got faked out of his shoes more than once. They looked much better 2nd half.
