LF------47-14 -----------5-8 vs ranked opponents RD-----33-4 ------------12-4 vs ranked opponents People are saying Luke will steal the good Ohio Catholic school players if at ND,,,to be honest we haven't done so well with the ones we have gotten. We've been more National since Urban/ Pantoni got here. I think we're ok with Day over Fickell. Will be interesting with Marcus Freeman at ND because of his history with Fickell and also because Freeman is rumored to have be a HC in waiting for ND. I think there is Truth in what Harbaugh said about Day waking up on 3rd. I think there is going to be a reckoning next year because this is Day's team now. The last vestiges of Urban are almost gone. Coach Stud is rumored to be leaving. Coach Wilson is rumored for the Akron HC job. Coach Johnson is 69. He is said to be considering retirement. Coach Coombs will not be retained. Corey "Rocky" Dennis is rumored to be on the move. Day is going to have to completely re-load/build his coaching staff and we will see what kind of talent he is able to recruit on that level. College Football is Assistant driven. UM finally got that bit right. We will see who is willing to work for Coach Day. Would love to see Chris Ash as our next DC. Also would be thrilled if we could lure Jim Leonard away from WISCY. He could be Hartlein-esque in his impact imho. OSU/UM next season will be insane. If UM wins there will be absolute turmoil. Maybe the war we thought we would get with Harbaugh and Urbs will be Harbaugh and Day instead.

The loss on Saturday was an enormous awakening humbling thing for Day and OSU. I expect departures in coaches and players. We have some players and coaches here that are just average and probably overated .They just haven't improved and as good as we can get and be.
If a coach is on the recruiting trail, I just can't see them being cut loose. LJ stays one more year.He deserves to go out on his own terms. Not sure about the rest of the coaches on defense.
I think Freeman is the next DC,,,either he or Ash. One or the other. Ash is the better DC, but Freeman the better recruiter. Pick your poison . ND and Fickell are in a tough spot.

Notre Dame taking a chance on him it looks like. i'm assuming LF told them no thanks if it has to be now.

Freeman was NDs guy all along, he is seen as a rising star and they weren't gonna take a chance at losing him, which they would have if they went after Fickell.

Theres a lot that goes into being a head college football coach. You now Coach coaches and deligate authority. Way diffeent than just an assistant or even a D Coordinator. Because he's a Buckeye, I wish him well except when we play them and as we compete for recruits.

Not going to pass judgment on whether or not i think Freeman will be successful or not but ND viewed him as a sort of Lincoln Riley type assistant. ND success i think is capped for the most part. Kelly did everything you could there and they were never competitive in the playoffs.

Exactly. Maybe ND thinks/hopes Freeman can successfuly recruit the kind of players needed to take the next step in the CFP. Gonna be 12 teams in 2023, so that will certainly open it up for more teams, coaches, players and fans to enjoy being in the show.

Most recently, an 8 team playoff has gained momentum in discussions. As I understand, tv contracts and current alliances has made it clear, any changes won't come before 2025. I have argued, that the final week(s) and conference championship games, largely, clarify the top four playoff participants, separating the contenders from the pretenders.

Oklahoma must be going for a home run. They could of hired Campbell or Venerables this week if they wanted to

#5 Goes down. Notre Dame could find themselves squeezing in the #4 spot should UX or Cincinnati slip up.

Looks like C.U. is about to punch their ticket into the College Football Invitational (playoff), Luke Fickell should win the Coach of the Year Award.

Looks like 3 of the 4 is set. Alabama, Georgia, Cincinnati, And Xichigan if they win. If they lose, It's probably Notre Dame. Would really Pee them off up North, if Ohio State got chosen, over Noter Dame

Clemson may be in trouble too. Their coaching was already suspect on offense. If Dabo makes the wrong hire may be end of Clemson’s run

Kelly did everything you could there and they were never competitive in the playoffs. Re: "Kelly did everything you could there and they were never competitive in the playoffs"...agree with the second part but "Kelly did everything he could" is off the mark. It was widely known that that he was personally a pretty lazy recruiter, delegating almost completely to his staff. And up until Freeman arrived, he had a staff of OK, but far from elite, recruiters. He was more focused on hanging on to his cronies from Grand Valley State and Central Michigan than he was with building a staff of elite assistants who would challenge his thinking. He was forced to change that in the last few years after his 4-8 season in 2016. While academics limits ND's access to some 5-star guys, by far the biggest reason they didn't reel many of them in was Brian Kelly. Never up, never in as they say...he never went very hard after the top tier guys, and always whined about "academic restrictions" and the fact that ND doesn't have it's own football-only Disney World as a crutch. Freeman personally upped their recruiting game by several notches in his first year on campus, and you should expect them to go from having Top 10 - 20 classes every year to Top 5 - 8, with a healthy dose of 5-star talent coming in year after year. Kelly never fully embraced ND, and ND never embraced Kelly, mostly because he was an arrogant, purple-faced ***. He deserves credit for raising the floor at a place where that shouldn't have been necessary. But, with three consecutive crappy hires after Holtz (Bob Davie, Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis), Kelly was good enough to bring stability and respectability. While he raised the floor by being competent, he doesn't have it in him to raise the ceiling. LSU will find this out soon enough and will probably want to be done with him in 3 years or so. Guaranteed. They paid $95M and did ND a monumental favor by taking away someone who was just good enough not to fire, and opening the door for a potential star. While there's more to being a head coach than recruiting, I'll take my chances with Marcus Freeman. Without question, he's an authentic guy with passion who can win the hearts and minds of 18-21 year old young men. He's got a lot to learn, but so did Riley, Day, Dabo, Matt LaFleur, Sean McVay, and several other young, first time head coaches in the past few years.

Brian Kelly is human garbage. He also has more wins at ND than Knute, Ara, and Lou.

Yes he is garbage. Yes, after this year he has more wins than any other ND coach. But in 2016–6 years ago—he became the coach with the most losses in ND history. Somehow that doesn’t get mentioned much.
Fortunately for Kelly, his AD boss was even worse than he is and kept extending and blindly supporting him while watering down his schedule.

Well it will be a very interesting landscape in the SEC for the next few years with all the coaches and even moreso if they fast track OKL and TEX. Also i don't think Kelly will have to recruit much at LSU the boosters will do that for him. Miles and Orgeron both won National Titles there. Let that soak in for a minute. How can Kelly not be successful in that environment? He already has a southern accent. It's a match made in whatever county Porky's was filmed in heaven.

Bryce Young wins the Heisman last night, feels like one of the weaker ones recently. It seems he won it more just because he was on Alabama and they are #1. There’s been other years where you go through a season and there’s a few players who just clearly stand out, like Joe Burrow a few years ago or Lamar Jackson.

It's looking like #4 Cincinnati took a playoff spot away from a deserving and a better team. I hope the Bearcats can comeback, But I don't see it happening.
