Noon on FOX
I want to say this is the first time this century that the big OOC game was played at noon.
Ohio State leads the all time series 9-0. This will be the 6th meeting in Columbus (1 in Eugene, 2 in Pasadena, 1 in Arlington, TX)

Oregon does not appear at be a world beater. I think the Buckeyes will be fine in this one at home.

I think the Buckeye defense will look much better this week, with starters back in place and some game experience for the inexperienced, but talented youngsters.
Offensively, look for the Buckeyes to open up the playbook and turn Stroud loose this week.

More carries for the RB’s to open up an electric pass game. For me though it’s that buckeye defense. Will they come out and play a complete game and get pressure on that QB like we have become accustomed to.
Buckeyes- 42 Oregon- 24

Listening to ESPNU radio this morning and they were ripping OSU's defense. That's fine, but then he itterated how terrible the Buckeye's DL is. Ready to rip the radio out of the dash. They received a caller from Ohio, explaing the two CB starters did not play and how experienced and solid the DL is. ESPN commentators would have nothing of that and expresssed their low esteem of the Ohio State defense.

People get way carried away from a week one game. I’ll say this, if Ohio St scores 45 points every game they are going 12-0

ESPN is nothing more than an extension of the SEC Network, if Herbie wasn't so good at what he does they could cleanse their broadcasts of most things OSU. The fact that an ESPNU radio network even exists is a damning testament to the fact that the 24/7/365 news cycle has gone too far. The defense was pretty vanilla due to the young back seven and the fact that I'm not sure there's an existing personnel grouping for some of the things Minnesota was doing like essentially having nine offensive linemen on the field plus the QB and RB, you can't play base defense against that. They are also BIG. Ohio State is built to defend the spread option teams that proliferate nowadays. There's talent to be sure. There are times when I wonder if the days of defenses that allow single digits and 300 yards total offense are a thing of the past, but I don't think so. I do think that you've got to be able to score big points in order to win it all, however. Now for the purpose of ranting, I'm sick of all the love for Oklahoma. They might prove me wrong but I just don't see it. It reminds of a few years back when the committee did their level best to make Notre Dame into something that they weren't. Two years ago ND deserved a shot at the playoffs, before that it was either nostalgia or corruption.

I have figured out there are only a handful of people that respect the buckeyes. I am ok with that, let the haters hate. The fact still remains the buckeyes are always right there in the running. I just have to laugh because they’re calling them out after one game, ONE game. If we are still seeing this problem in week 4, there is an issue to me. I’ll continue with my phrase “they hate us, cause they ain’t us!”

My concern with the OSU defense goes back to when Schiano was DC and for some reason things were simply unsound; no contain player on the TE flank against Maryland, incredibly poor pursuit angles, etc. We're not seeing that by any stretch but it leaves me spooked. I agree that if we're still seeing it in game four then there's a red flag.

Williams had 22, Henderson 7, Teague 12. The more p!ays a RB is on the field for it exponentially increases his odds of getting carries "

What bugged me with Schiano, he positioned our LB's much too close to the LOS, resulting in them getting sealed off all too often. Not seeing that now, under Al Washington. Think our LB crew is going to be just fine, from what I've seen so far. Outside contain is much better, as well. Far too often, you see edge rushers not respecting the speed of their target and a couple moves and lose contain. The old defensive basics still applies, penetrate as deep as the ball, turn the play in and have confidence in your fellow defenders.

OSU is up to a 14 point fav. Line started at 11.5. So the money is going on the Bucks with the impression the Thibodeaox and Mathis will be out for the Ducks

If you recall the Maryland game in particular the strong side DE was often aligned in a five-technique on the tackle with a TE to that side with no walk or overhang player. It was like taking candy from a baby. My thought at the time was that they couldn't possibly have intended to do that but that the players were confused.

And it makes it more difficult for LBs to drop in coverage making it easier to complete passes in short and medium crossing patterns

This season is still immersed in fog for the Ohio State football team, Week two has perhaps more question marks than entering week one, with Proctor, Brown and Banks still recovering from unknown injuries. Let's hope we get a set of officials that are rather tolerant of hand checks etc. like we had in week one, otherwise we could see an unusual amount of PI go against our green secondary. Hopefully a week of film study and coaching corrections, will improve CB coverage this week. The secondary situation is very unsettled, with the spector of reliance on freshmen to cover key roles on pass defense, continues. Think coach Washington now knows his best combination at LB and should see far less substitutions this week.

How long has it been, several months waiting on a ruling on Palaie Gaoteote? NCAA....helloooooooo, anybody home??!!!! Palaie Gaoteote's transfer has been denied by the NCAA. Ohio State's Ryan Day said he will remain on the Buckeye roster. That fact, makes me believe they will pursue the appeal process.
