NCAA, your Racist, and I might as well put Big 10, ESPN and all college sports!! Why you ask, Look at Iowa's jerseys, another team had warm ups say Black Lives Matter!!! Can you imagine what would happen if a team came out wearing White Lives Matter warm ups!!! You can be damn sure that would not be aloud!!! You are only a racist in this country if you are white!! This has nothing to do with racism but hasn't the NCAA had a male swimmer compete in event and this person or it had sex change and now it is going to compete in women's events!! Wake up people, this should never be aloud!! Just my friendly thought for the night and I am sure someone will say whats this person on tonight!!!

Let me start by saying the US is better now than 10 years, 40 years, 100 years ago. Better, but not where we need to be.
I just listened to a podcast yesterday talking about how US News and World Report ranks colleges. The biggest factor in the ranking is other school administrators’ opinion. Not SAT score, retention, graduation rate. Opinion. Guess what? On average traditionally black colleges score lower in that category. It’s completely subjective. That’s persistent racism. As a result those schools rank lower and have a worse reputation.
Those schools get lower bond ratings when trying to raise money to build new dorms, academic buildings. That’s persistent racism.
My daughter made a great analogy. If your neighbor’s house is on fire and everyone on the street is running down the road with buckets of water to help put it out would you stand on your porch and ask your neighbors why they weren’t helping you out? Of course they would answer we would, but your house isn’t on fire. Nobody wears white lives matter on their warmups because white peoples’ houses aren’t on fire.
Before you get too worked up I’ll say again we’re better than the past, but are we good enough? When it is truly even we’ll be good enough. We aren’t there yet. If you’re confident in your abilities you aren’t threatened by giving someone else a hand up.

Do Hispanic lives matter ? Do Asian lives matter?
Make no mistake , the BLM movement people could give two shots about those people .
If there are two groups who have a legit gripe about being marginalized it’s Hispanics and Asians in America .
How many TV shows, commercials etc do you see specific towards promoting these two races of people? None

Is there racism against those two groups and should we do better? Sure.
That’s an apples to oranges comparison. Those two groups voluntarily came to the US with intent to work hard and make a better life. Black people were involuntarily brought to the US, owned, traded. Families were separated. Then when slavery was abolished they were placed in second rate schools, lynched, and given limited opportunities.
One generation ago they still weren’t allowed to drink from the same water fountain. One generation and you think things are even already?

It’s right there in your comment. “The BLM people.” The BLM movement is a diverse group of people some reasonable who want equal opportunity for everyone and radicals who want to overthrow our way of life and everything in between.
We need to get past the us v them mentality. Diversity is what makes the US the greatest country on the planet.
Rising tides raise ALL ships. Why don’t we want to make all Americans better by providing equal opportunities?

Agreed. I’m just not sure how that is relevant. All lives matter, but police officers are not stuck in inferior schools. Unless they’re black their grandparents didn’t have to drink from separate water fountains. Police officers’ houses are not on fire. Do they have a tough job. Heck yes. They know what they are getting into when they sign up. Should we defund them? No. We should increase funding for better training. This is a completely separate issue from persistent racism. Irrelevant to the conversation. Making life better for police officers by getting them better training and equipment has nothing to do with trying to improve education and opportunities for black people.

Open enroll to better school districts. Use vouchers to go to private schools. Many prefer to stay in lesser school districts where they're in the majority, not caring how it will negatively affect their education and upward mobility. There's a reason there are more and more doctors, lawyers, engineers, businessmen, educators, politicians, etc, etc of color. If there's a will there's a way, more so every day. We need to tell people how much easier it is to succeed today, as opposed to reinforcing the idea that they don't have a chance
With that being said this should be moved to the General Discussion board.

I don’t disagree, but bootstrap stories are stories because they are the exception to the rule. We wouldn’t talk about them if they were easy and common. You want a twenty something who wasn’t given the necessary skills to make the effort to get his/her child into a better school which requires waiting in line, filling out paperwork. That may require missing work and losing a job. Then if you get into Ontario or Lexington having reliable transportation to get the child there. Getting them there may again interfere with getting to work. It’s not easy. These are all hurdles most on here didn’t have to jump.

"Bootstrap stories"? That's more insulting than calling those individuals the N word. Nothing in life is easy. AGAIN, the FACTS are that there are more professionals of color than there were 20 years ago, AND more 40 years and than 20 years ago, ad infinitum. AGAIN do not tell anyone it's too hard, too much work, can't be done. It WAS impossible in Europe, that's why people came to the new world. Tell my Irish and Welsh relatives that came to this country 150 years ago and overcame a form of racism based on their heritage to became industrialists and successful businessmen. They were not "bootstrappers". "Reliable transportation, interfere with work", they'd LOL at you. I'm willing to bet the majority on here, had to "overcome", I did more than once. But I'm not saying I overcame more than others. No one has the same challenges in life, but anyone could give up or not bother to try. OH, BTW, why do people of color from all over the world risk their lives every day to get to this terrible racist country? Several MILLION of them yearly these days.
Ontario does, but Lexington doesn't participate in the State's Open Enrollment Program. Only 20% of districts do not. If they did, there would be more opportunities. Are they racist? I think not, but reading your musings...

I might be all wet , but it feels like since George Floyd there’s been an over correction in attempted appeasement. Just what I’m seeing on TV and on social media news etc.
The Hispanic community has a legit complaint —- they are nothing but an after thought and whipping boys to the media and goodness would our country be screwed if those workers weren’t here.

WF
The first third of your text was agreeing with me. I already stated things are better now than in the past. Are we comfortable getting lazy and saying better is good enough? Why does a five year old have to pay for the inaction of his poorly prepared parents? This situation is self perpetuating. Would you agree your parents taught you hard work or did you figure that out entirely on your own in spite of your upbringing? We should strive for equality of educational opportunities at a minimum.
I already addressed the second part of your response. Voluntarily coming to a country to make a better life is different than being loaded involuntarily onto a ship and being owned. There are people alive today whose grandparents were owned. That’s not that long ago. And things weren’t equal right away.
And finally, heck yes I worked hard. Paid my way through college and medical school working the entire time. But I will acknowledge I won the lottery. I went to a solid rural public school. Both my parents were involved in my life. I had teachers and coaches who were genuinely invested in my success. The color of my skin got me more fairly looked at when applying to college and medical school. Westerville police didn’t follow me from the city limits to the college campus like some of my black friends. I’m humble enough to acknowledge I won the lottery and not so arrogant to exaggerate my struggles.
Why wouldn’t we want a child born into a situation through no fault of their own to have the same opportunities I had, WF had? This country is better when everybody gets better. Rising tides raise all ships.
BK I agree with your comment about Hispanics. I’ll throw something else controversial out. I say we make immigration easier. Make the process easier so the path of least resistance isn’t illegal immigration, but that it is legal immigration. Register them. Let them work. Tax them like everyone else so they pay for the services they get to take advantage of. Immigration is what this country was built on just like WF said.

I notice, with all the liberal mantra being spewed by fanofthegame, not a mention of the national emergency at our southern border, simply making immigration much 'easier' being the solution. I especially love the apology for his personal success, attaching it to the color of his skin. Give me a break!

I am neither liberal or conservative. I’m an individual thinker and judge each issue on its merit. Ask me about how the government handled COVID including vaccines, repurposing medications, etc and I’ll sound decidedly conservative. Siding with your team when what they say doesn’t make sense is wrong.
I’m not apologizing. I’m acknowledging that the playing field isn’t even. There is measurable proof of that. I’m not naive. It never will be. I’m saying it’s still pretty uneven and we can do better.

We ARE "striving for equality of education". As we are striving for improvements in other social issues. Every person on the face of the earth is imperfect. That will never change. There will always be poor parenting, that is not fair. You can't even start a conversation about that these days without being labeled a racist. There will always be racism due to the imperfect human race. Unless we execute all those perceived to be racists by those who are "better". It's just that I'm getting REALLY tired of being labeled a racists, for no other reason than the color of MY skin.
Unless you call having to mow the significant yard we had, with no allowance, I wasn't "taught" anything about hard work by my parents. Whether born into poverty, a middle class family or "wealth", I believe there is something inside you that makes you strive for what ever it might be in life. Obviously there are factors that make it more difficult for some, but that does not put out what is burning inside. Some just do not have that "fire" inside. And AGAIN, we are all different and imperfect in some way.
People were "owned" not only in in this country, but also in England and Europe at the same time. Slavery was prevalent in Europe 300 years before America. There were slaves in Africa and South America for other people of color before those slave owners exported slavery to Europe and America, making more money. Slavery is more prevalent around the world TODAY, than it was 250 years ago here. Now there are upwards of 50 million people in slavery, none in the "civilized" world, out side of the sex trade. Unless you call North Korea, Russian and China "civilized". I see NO ONE of color striving to get into those aforementioned countries.

Because you are not a racist does not mean racism isn’t still prevalent. Motivation is probably a combination of nature and nurture. Nurture is probably a combination of carrot and stick. I would add that not all lessons are actively taught. I’m assuming you watched your dad go to work every day and as a result you had clothes and a roof over your head. You were smart enough to connect the dots. The US contribution to slavery over all of time is a drop in the bucket and the speed with which we outlawed it is remarkable. Credit to us. I just don’t think we are where we need to be yet.

What did I say about racism? AGAIN, there will always be racism, as the human race is imperfect. Unless all perceived racists are exterminated by the well intended.
I watched my dad after working 50 hours during the week running his businesses also go in on weekends and in the middle of the night if a customer needed help. I saw him need 2 martinis every night when he came home from work to unwind before we had dinner between 7 and 8 pm. I saw the stress cause him to become an alcoholic and sell his businesses and retire when he was 55, only to die before he was 65.
Correct, "we" are no longer involved in slavery, other than some in the elite and political classes who are involved in sex trafficking and the majority that are turning a blind eye, to protect their brethren. Which has absolutely nothing to do with racism today.

Racism will always exist but my hope is that at some point the non-racists will outnumber the racists. It is unfortunate that many of the most popular speakers against racism as the most racist individuals and they are well aware that if racism stopped today they would become irrelevant and unemployed.

And IMO, there are FAR more non-racists than racists now

You will never change my opinion; you are only racist if you are white in this county. What would happen if a team can out and wore a shirt saying white lives matter? They would not let that happen! I suppose you people think the Rooney Rule in NFL is fair and good, BULL CRAP!! The best person should get hired for the job, not because of their color or sex. But you have to remember I am white and a RACIST!!!!
