Results from tonight's games Springfield- 59 Madison- 52 Pickerington North- 38 Mt. Vernon- 36 Elyria- 73 Wooster- 60 Good game played by Madison against a good Springfield team and a total shocker for Mt Vernon to take Pick North right down to the buzzer. If the score reflects the truth about the game, Wooster must have played Elyria well to only be behind by 13.

Ashland high school much smaller than Madison. District game should not be at Ashland high school. The crowd for Lex / Willard game would not fit into Ashland gymnasium.

I’ve always been disappointed with the venue for our district even when it was at Ashland University. Where I grew up we had a sectional game at a high school then our district and regional were at OU in the convocation center. It really felt like something to play in a venue like that. Even AU just felt like a super sized high school.

It was around two hours on a bus for us. It was worth every minute. Between junior and senior year we got 8 games on that floor. Priceless.

Madison would be a better site for District but their people do not want to host. Even Ontario would be better since they are not playing.

Not always the case, but I've heard they want more money than is available for District games....that may mean the District is too tight/cheap. Knowing they can get high schools to do it for less

I remember years ago they would host AAA and AA games. Then I know at least the Div II and Div III games. That was fun. Some great games there with Lex, Malabar, Willard, Bellevue, and Upper Sandusky to name a few. Also Ontario and Wynford in Div III. Too bad they can't or won't do that again.

What is the problem with AU? Do they just not want the hassle? The problem with AU is that they have very good basketball teams that are still playing. Since their women's team started their winning ways about 10 years ago gym time this time of year is limited. Ashland is hosting two GMAC tournament games tonight, and the Girls should be hosting the final 4 this weekend. Also when AU last updated the gym with new bleachers the seating compacity has also gone down. Still bigger then Ashland High, but its not like it was. I remember back in the early 2000's they used to pack that place.

I remember back in the early 2000's they used to pack that place. Some very good district games were played on that floor. Yes...some of the best high school basketball I have seen where on that court. It is funny, the gym doesn't have the same feel since they replaced the bleachers. The old bleachers had a much more vertical angle and went to the roof. If you were sitting at the top you could literally hang on the rafters. The new ones while much more comfortable, don't go near as high or have the angle. Probably better safety wise, but when they used to get that place packed it would be so loud. A few district games, and the first time AU women's team won the NCAA regional were some of the loudest crowds I have been apart of.

Willard Fillmore, why don't you buy that foreclosed church on PAW and turn it into a Civic Center with 3, 000 seat arena? Surely that's pocket change!! Better than Ashland HS!

Can't, the eyesore is still under litigation.
The facts: A long time Mansfield church got a new pastor during a period of shrinking attendance. He believed like the famous baseball movie. "Build it and they will come". SO he convinced a contractor to start building the new church, even though there was no money. He also believed that if you have faith the good Lord will supply what is needed. Well, that worked for awhile, but the congregation became disenchanted with the design and cost and stopped donating money. The contractor asked for some money and the Pastor said it was coming and told the contractor to keep working. Eventually the contractor had no money to keep building and the pastor had no money to give him, for what he had already done. Then the lawsuits began. The Pastor saying he never promised any money and the contractor said he did make promises and was owed money for what had been built.
Funny you should ask. Long ago after Ontario's all weather track was built the person who was head of the committee raising the money wanted to continue to raise money to build exactly what you suggested. A 3000 seat all purpose facility for Ontario schools. Buy adjacent land and build it west of the football field. Should be easy with all the businesses in Ontario right? Wrong. The big businesses in Ontario told the people seeking donations that they couldn't give, because even though they were located in Ontario they considered themselves Richland County businesses. AND if they give money to Ontario schools they'd have to give to all Richland County schools. SO very little money was raised through donations and a Bingo game was started. Two years later enough money was raised to build the track. After 2 nights a week every week for 2 years, none of the volunteers wanted to continue for a pie in the sky field house.
With that being said, the infamous Park Ave West shopping center is going to be leveled. An excellent place to build a 3000 seat facility, get busy.
Addendum: However this was before Ontario school's two multi-millionaire benefactors moved in.

New Concord John Glenn is a traditionally strong program. I thought the Quakers would have had a decent shot at the regional.
