The Vermilion Sailors are in the midst of a 19 game losing streak and by the time of their first game of the 2023 season, it will have been 728 days since their last win, a 30-28 win on August 20, 2021 over Margaretta. 2nd year coach Bill DiFucci is still searching for his first win at the helm of the Sailors program that has not had a winning season since 2008 and has not finished .500 or higher since 2017. However, a bright future appears to be brewing with their incoming sophomore class of 2026 that finished an 8 win season on the freshman squad in 2022, but in the junior and senior classes do have weapons on the offensive side of the ball but the defense could use work after letting up many blowouts throughout 2022's 0-10 campaign but '22 did include a few winnable games such as Columbia (14-26), Toledo Scott (7-18), and Willard (14-26). What could be or has to be done to turn the Sailors around? Could the turn around be in 2023 or not? What will V-Town be able to accomplish with their 2023 schedule?
2023 Schedule
Week 1: August 18 vs. Margaretta Week 2: August 25 @ Firelands Week 3: September 1 @ Willard Week 4: September 8 vs. South Central Week 5: September 15 vs. Sandusky Week 6: September 22 @ Norwalk Week 7: September 29 vs. Port Clinton Week 8: October 6 @ Huron Week 9: October 13 vs. Edison Week 10: October 20 @ Bellevue

Exactly what I'm thinking. 2023 won't be as good as they want, but still a turn in the right direction. I say 3-7 at the max beating Willard, South Central, and Norwalk. But once 2024 comes along, and a good amount of that class of 2026 is on the varsity squad (if they can keep that group together), things could be going swimmingly

Love the optimism but let’s be real. They’re looking at another 0-10 season.

Ended up going 7-4 and making the playoffs for the first time in school history. All things are possible if you’re willing to work for it.

Love the optimism but let’s be real. They’re looking at another 0-10 season. SC is going to be really bad SC beat Plymouth by 28 points last year and also beat Willard who vermilion could not beat… What would make you think they’re going to be so bad? Vermilion will not win until they get some fresh blood in their program. Their coach has been there for years… why would he start winning now?

Their lower grades at SC barely have any football players playing. It wouldn’t surprise me to see SC in the same boat as New London in a few years

I did the preview for the paper and they only had like 16 kids in grades 9-11 last year. Lots of seniors including Brandon Mitchell and Hagen Adams.

For Willard I think the Sailors can steal a win from the Flashes in that one. Vermilion had a 14-13 lead on them in the 4th and then fell apart losing 26-14, but that was an entirely winnable game in my opinion as I mentioned in that top post. I think Vermilion goes into Willard and in a tight one steals a win.

We all know Willard fell apart in the second half of the season last year, but still found a way to win on the road in Week 10. Willard returns a good amount of talent, IIRC, and IMO, could even start 5-0 or 6-0 this season.

And remember Willard was putting up insane scores in those first couple games and the Flashes have those same 2 opponents (SC and Plymouth) before Vermilion.

You might be right they will win against Willard, but why is SC on their schedule? Do they want to make sure they win at least one game this year? SC is three divisions below them.

Am I missing something here? last year Willard had some athletes..they could score so that loss isn't bad for vermilion.. They have a new coach.. He has one year under his belt.. trust me its coming and soon.. all it takes is one good class to turn this around and they have it.

Nothing has changed as a result of him being hired thus no reason to believe the record will either.
