Where did you see announcement? Enrollment definitely down. Makes you appreciate success Calvert is still having in sports. Catholics schools especially the smaller ones numbers keep dropping, they seem to still be thriving in most sports.

So who takes St. Joe’s spot? Or will this be another odd number league?

I was told a few months ago this was absolutely happening. But the biggest mistake the SBC can do is replace them with SMCC. Just look how many pong they are giving up against this 8-man competition. They are finally getting some kids to come out. Going back to 11-man is bad for them and the rest of the league.

If you can’t replace SJCC with another full time member then what exactly does the league have to lose by allowing SMCC to play 11 man again?

Do they really think they can come back to 11-man, take beatings, and continue to get kids to come out? They are finally making some headway in 8-man…headway, not dominating. And again, they are playing the likes of Holgate, Danbury, Stryker, etc. I just don’t think that they could come back and do any better than SJCC’s doing right now, and that isn’t any fun for anyone.

The last time they backed out of season last minute it left schools getting undesirable replacement games. They are not a good option

Arcadia would be a good fit for the River. It’d be a better option then the beatings they take in the BVC.

It would probably be a good move for Fostoria - they already schedule area River schools in sports. They aren’t much different than Willard football-wise.

I agree any of those schools would be good options. I’m not sold on SMCC being a permanent fix. I feel the same of New London in the FC

Who will take St Joe spot, St Mary's? I heard today that Northwood is interested to join the River and maybe Arcadia.

Article didn’t elude to SMCC going back at all That was my first thought. Wouldn’t SMCC had to make an announcement and have a schedule set by now if they were to go back to 11 man? I think the better choice would be a school that has been an 11 man for a long time and no worry they will go back to 8 man. My choices would be either Northwood or Arcadia.

The AD I talked to this weekend didn't indicate SMCC was coming back to 11-man and they were already in talks with a team to replace SJCC on the '24 schedule. Sounds like next year everyone will need a non-league game.

Vanlue and SJCC played Friday in a little known game and Vanlue rolled 46-14. Yikes!
SMCC got rolled by Holgate last night.
Both will be in 8-man for a long time IMO

Arcadia would probably be a stable member of the league but I doubt that they would bring much else.

Northwood had a really down year, but typically they put a serviceable team on the field with decent roster numbers. Now outside of football....yikes. Not good. Like I've said before - if you are bringing in another full time member the double round robin has to end. There has the be room for non-league games.

What’s stopping Huron from trying to get into the river if they end up in Div 6? Have Willard D5, Lakota D6, Margaretta D6.

For these schools that are struggling with numbers, competitive games, etc., what about joining a football only league to help them until their programs get on their feet. Vanlue, New London, St. Joe, SMCC, Danbury, Crestline, Wellington, and throw in another school and you would have a 7-8 team conference. The can play the bottom 3 city league teams from Cleveland and Toledo for their first three games or choose two play a team twice. It would help create competitive games and would get more kids involved and possibly grow their programs. Thoughts?

That's where 8-man is already coming into play. Numbers are numbers no matter what struggling league you put together. Crestline joined the NWCC and still can't field a competitive team. Would they in 8-man? One would have to think it would help.
