After six seasons and an 8-2 mark this past season, Reser has stepped down as coach of the Senecas.

It won't be an easy job to fill because of the pay. Shoemaker took Arcadia to it's last playoff appearance, but he's been out of coaching for quite a while. I think Lento has done a few good things at Lakota, but they've had some results on the field that would be a hard sell. That being said, I'm not sure Vince Lombardi could win at Lakota.

If that’s the case and someone doesn’t need a teaching, that would change things. But there’s also only so high of a ceiling with their small enrollment. There’s a mix of bigger classes and very small classes coming up. They’ve had a good run of athletes the last few years - I’m not sure how long that can sustain.

Friends associated with Calvert indicate the new AD, who is a Calvert legend but has no experience in education was/is very difficult to work for/with.

I thought it was interesting Adam went from food service to AD.

If I’m Calvert I make a call and try and talk former Lucas coach Scott Spitler out of retirement with some booster $$

Mike Lento has been named the new football coach at Tiffin Calvert.

Wow, not even a month to name a new coach. I'd assume the fact that he's from a Catholic school background and close to the area had a ton to do with this.

Surprise Calvert took Lento and surprised Lento leaves Lakota. Seems strange you leave to coach in the same league(River). I thought it would be a bigger name.

They have an OHSAA boys count of 48....those kind of numbers aren't getting anyone overly excited. They've been lucky to have a bunch of athletes in those small numbers lately. I'm not sure how long that can last.

I'm not sure how long that can last. It wasn't too long ago when St. Joes was still winning a lot of football games. These small private schools can fall fast (St. Joes, St. Mary's, St. Wendelin) With Calvert's enrollment they could be there soon if they if Lentos not successful. I wonder how many years they got left of 11-man. It could really depend on this hiring.

The only thing good they have going for them is a strong alumni base and a strong head of school that's out there getting kids to come to the school. They'll get some kids from SJCC, Fostoria and Findlay (they are already running a bus to the Fostoria/Findlay area and soon will go half way to Fremont). They certainly have to do a good job of keeping the money flowing in. But again, its a strong alumni/booster base. It also helps that the Tiffin area is on the upswing. I don't think you can say that about Fremont and certainly not Fostoria.

If I’m Calvert I make a call and try and talk former Lucas coach Scott Spitler out of retirement with some booster $$ As a life-long Lucas resident, and father of a former player of his, I've heard from good sources that he is likely finished coaching. 36 years in total. Will he ever return? Possibly. Will he return soon? Not likely.
