Ottawa Hills had an opening, but opted for a bye instead of a home game against a team that's won 34 games over the last three years.
The story:

Ignoring all the positive reasons why you'd want a home game, I did math in the N10/FC forum on Colonel Crawford's "what if" from 2023 if they hadn't played Cardinal Stritch and took a bye. Their Harbins would have gone up by about 0.8000 overall.
If we consider that Stritch would've gone 0-10 this year, the bye week vs playing Stritch scenario could likely add about one full Harbin to your total by season's end.
All of this is to say that being stuck with a bye week that you did not want does have a silver lining. Though if you are able to secure a game, and win, against a team that is worth 4ish wins I'd say the equation says otherwise.

The weird part is not wanting to play Hopewell since the two schools are very similarly sized and both finished last year as 11+ win teams and won multiple playoff games each, hopewell also offered to go to Ottawa hills, I also saw an article the OH is returning two players who scored 20+ touchdowns and a separate QB who threw for 2,000+ yards all in the regular season. Seems wierd to be returning good talent and having recent success and not wanting to take it a step further by playing another competitive team. There schedule also sucks and they’ll have no trouble blowing out everyone in the TAAC, no one in the conference will prepare them for playoffs but HL might

I could see where someone did the similar math at Ottawa Hills and decided they would rather ensure a Harbin boost and maybe snag an extra home playoff game instead of taking the challenge. It's not the best for preparing a team for the long run, but Ottawa Hills barely missed out on two home playoff games last year by going 9-1. May as well go 9-0 and hopefully lock it down. It's a school of thought one way or the other.

This rips off the seniors on the team. For most of them, that is one less game they'll get to play the rest of their lives. In my opinion, it's pretty selfish by a school and their staff to be more worried about playoff position instead of trying to schedule a full slate of games for your not only your seniors but also for the underclassmen. I know there are circumstances where games get canceled and there is not enough time to find an opponent but at least try or make an attempt to find a game.

It’s a wierd mentality to have considering They’ve got the talent to contend for a regional title, the only potential reason I see against it is that I’m pretty sure OH and HL will now be in the same region and OH may not want to show what they got before the playoffs like what Glenville thought about playing Perkins in the regular season

Lose a regular season home game and replace it for a more assured home playoff game (which you need to fight for with Ottawa Hills' weak regular season schedule). Most seniors take that trade. Bonus for gate receipts for the school in that 2nd home game instead of hauling to Colonel Crawford, like last season. That's the logic.

The win was in 2005. Two of those years are the expanded 16 team format. Last year they got whacked by Bluffton 34-0 in the third round. I think Ottawa Hills is playing their hand both passively, and as well as they can. Their regular season schedule is not the same as the N10 or the NWC where you have Carey, CC, Columbus Grove, etc. hanging out. A 2nd home playoff game sounds favorable if it means playing one of those powers.
