This will be the first post season matchup between the Guardians and Tigers, in fact it's the first time Cleveland has faced any of the AL Central teams in the post season.
Game 1 is Saturday at 1:08 pm on TBS

Tigers are the hottest team in baseball and Skubal is the best pitcher in baseball right now. It should be a fun series. I'll take the Guards in 5.

Detroit is hot, Cleveland could be rusty, and Cleveland has to win Game 1. Lose Game 1 with Skubal on deck for Game 2 is not the recipe

5 runs before Detroit could get a single out was one hell of a way to get the ball rolling today. I was pretty worried about the long layoff heading into today but, wow, that became a non issue pretty quick.

That was a gut-puncher. Clase was money all year but didn't come through in the biggest moment of the year. Guards now have to win two in Detroit or they see Skubal for Game 5 and I want none of that.

I think Vogt fouled up in these regards
Pitching Clase in Game 1
Pitching Clase in Game 2
Not a huge fan using Closers in non-closing situations. It's a defined role
And evidently, he's gone to the Dave Roberts school of pulling Starters too early

It's a defined role And evidently, he's gone to the Dave Roberts school of pulling Starters too early He has pullled starters early all season IMO -- that is why the bullpen is pitching on fumes now. As for Clase in Game 1 with a 7-0 lead, WHY? Then he essentially threw 2 innings in the next game with the bad results. But three straight sliders? WHY? |
