Idea to Reconcile the DH or no DH Dilemna

here is my idea:

let the pitcher AND the DH hit...9 position players in the field and 10 in the batting order...DH cannot be pinch hit for, and you don't have to start a DH if you don't want to

Or re-worded, "Pitcher must bat and a DH may be used". Interesting idea. Reminds me a bit of coaching in a youth league where everyone batted. I can see benefit to NL teams but not sure why AL teams would view the change as an improvement over status quo. I suspect most AL fans still wouldn't want to see their pitcher bat.
