I heard a couple of our Senior wide receivers (juniors last year) aren't playing this year for various reasons so I don't know who our QB will be. Middleton had some OK throws on JV but I don't know if that means much. Probably be another rough year, but we'll see. It was mentioned on here that Galion Varsity's Freshman WR and DB was transferring to Ontario. Did that happen? I'll tell you what I do know. That excellent receiver who was a freshman last year does not appear on any of the paperwork that my son (Senior this year) brought home with roster names on it. So whether he transferred to Ontario or not, I do not know, but it appears he is not playing for Galion this fall.

You're Ex didn't get anything from you in the divorce? You're not paying child support? That's the only way "those schools get no money" from you. hehe! Well she gets $1073.12 a month from me, so I guess they do get a little bit of money from me. ha! I haven't heard if they WR / DB did transfer. That kid is good. Galion..I'm guessing this year..will be a down year again for them. I don't see how they improve on last year...which actually shouldn't be that hard though looking at our record last year. The biggest reason for Galion's downfall is no defense. They were atrocious last year, which I don't see much improvement this year. I sure hope I'm wrong. I'd love for them to a lot better this year. I want to see what the coach does this year. I'd give him this year to see if he can improve, if not, Galion should look elsewhere for a coach. I don't really know if 2 years is enough to tell whether a coach is able to install his "culture" into a program but I'm not a coach so what do I know Winning seems to fix everything. I don't think this will be a "winning" year but I wish them the best and just want to see a competitive team. Last year, we didn't seem to be competitive in a lot of our losses.

His brother was the backup last year and I think he played Qb in middle school.

That's who I was told might switch over..Harrison Ivy. I think Tanner Crisman played a little bit of QB too in the past, didn't he?

Those schools get no money from me. haha! My ex-wife moved my youngest son (14) Dylan and my daughter (16) Madisyn to Colonel Crawford the same school year I moved Chase to Galion. Not my decision at all. My focus was only on Chase. Those two are AMAZING students...A's and B's. I don't have to worry about them. Hahaha. They get your money from her. It's called child support.

And potentially a huge violation for another school if recruiting was involved. We have all heard those stories.

Not a violation to move or open enroll to another school district for better academics.

Ivy was the QB in Middle School. I don't know (one way or the other) the senior status for either as far as whether they are planning on playing this fall.

Not a violation to move or open enroll to another school district for better academics. Does "better academics" = "less rigorous so a student-athlete can remain eligible," "more rigorous for a higher-quality education," or really "smaller talent pool so kid can have a chance to start?" I've said on this forum I've seen no end of transferring in and out and back into some of the schools in my area, especially by "student"-athletes. Wanna guess which of the two definitions of "better academics" they usually opted for? Apparently, one kid of a poster here had a 1.8 GPA at one school, transferred, and in one year at his new digs, earned a high 2 or so. Which is more likely: A.) Teachers at district #2 taught such circles around their counterparts at district #1 nearby that they turned this kid's life around to the tune of defying . or B.) Less demanding teaching faculty, possibly coupled with the knowledge that said student was a football transfer, made student-athlete's stay at district #2 a little cushier. (Since I can't tell you how many times of seen this myself even in my own short few years on the job, I'll tell you: it's B.) A lot of these kids and their parents are just more cowards and can't-dos, running from mostly self-created problems for which they take no responsibility. Most of these kids, parents at their side and having their back no matter what, are the authors of their own misfortunes and unhappiness. My own case in point. Student @ one school I sub for left for another of the districts I work for, allegedly because "Student" committed an unspeakable act on another one day in the bathroom. Halfway through the next school year at school #2, reports coming in of items being stolen from varsity winter athletes' lockers. "Student" was eventually caught in the varsity locker room (for players of the opposite sex, by a varsity senior of the opposite sex, no less), and eventually admitted to thefts. "Student," along with a pal he/she picked up at school #2 are now at an "alternative" school, which would be school #3 for student in 3 years. Some months later I found where the mother of "Student" had posted a Google star review for the school. She gave it one star. My eyes nearly rolled out of my head. I'm not buying this "poor student-athlete" schtick with about 90% kids that do this. Besides, student-athlete or not, when a kid transfers right smack dab in the middle of the year, guess who's job it is to get that student up to speed while keeping the class moving? Also, it seems like a rule among teens that change schools that their best bet at making friends and being the cool kid among their new peers is acting like a petulant, smart-mouthed child when dealing with the teachers that are trying their best to correct for the new, usually unannounced addition to their class mid-quarter.

The vast majority of Open Enrollment students to Ontario come from the Mansfield School District and aren't good athletes. They come for the very reason Open Enrollment was created. The opportunity for a better education for their child. Mansfield has the worst academic performance record in a 7 country area, Ontario has the highest. Many have to wait for more than a year to get in. On the first day of each year when forms can be picked up to Open Enroll to Ontario, parents start to line up in the middle of the night.

greenman, you can simply look at the new Competitive Balance numbers from OHSAA and see if kids are moving for academics or sports. If a school in our area has a double digit number you know kids have either moved in high school or do not live in the district they attend.
