This is sweet... Is there a league official we could hassle for the records?

Since Norwalk and Bellevue were prevalent champions at that time, maybe their AD and/or Principal might know. They could also check their archived yearbooks from that time (assuming they ARE archived).

maybe 1980 for galion too You might be right on this. I remember both Willard and Galion having a few badasses during that year, but couldn't tell you names anymore.... Can the school tell you anything or have an old NOL trophy?

One of the best matches I ever saw in my youth was center mat in the old Galion gym, circa 1981, between the Willard and Galion 167 pounders. Just can't find the names anymore, and the weight may have actually been 160.... LOL!!! Still, great match... Matula maybe from Willard??? Just not sure anymore...

Tidbits...In 1981 Jeff & Jim Jordan both won state champions for St Paris Graham, which finished 3rd as a team behind Medina Highland and Oak Harbor. Sandusky St Marys was 15th and Shelby was 32nd. Tim Swanger from Shelby took 5th at 185.

Swanger was legit too. I spent a week with him at the Michigan camp and we rolled around warming up at leagues my junior year. I played college football with Tim too... He was AA lineman of the year in 1980, 5th in wrestling at 189 and 3rd in the shot put. Seems like he ran about a 4.7 40 and i watched him bench 475 one lovely day at Muskingum. He was a beast too. And Portwalk, I believe it was 167 that year in that particular match. Just wish i could find the names all those years ago. Both guys were built like brick outhouses and just wouldn't give up. Seems like the one kid came off the mat, hit his head on the floor almost knocking him out and returned to the mat to finish and ultimately win. Of course, my old brain cells may be making up what I thought had happened, because we are talking about 1981...

Added Sandusky to the list for this year, and Galion for 1980 based on GoKats78's posts.
So I guess that means 1978 is the only one we can't track down. I doubt it was Upper, since either B2b or Whitacker would have said so by now. So, if we go by process of elimination and assume that anyone who added to this list knows their schools full total of wrestling titles......was it Bucyrus in '78?

I'm betting not. They were not what you would call powerhouse wrestling back then. A few good wrestlers, but overall, just not enough. If I had to guess, I would go with Galion/Bellevue/Norwalk...

Not Upper, Bucyrus, Bellevue, Willard nor Bellevue if guessing. I would go with TC/Galion/Norwalk??? My brother graduated in 78 should be someway I can get this...

I'm checking with coach Gary Veith. I'm betting he knows... and if he doesn't, I might try Jim Hughes. And oddly enough, I kind of thought Galion won it in 1980 too, but not positively enough to put my stamp of approval on it....so to the best of my knowledge I am agreeing with GoKats. Seems like it was a Galion/Willard dogfight and that 167 lb match was crucial... and I think the Galion kid won. These semi-old brain cells just don't have the storage space anymore. I blame it on Portwalk and one too many barley-pops.

I know that the 81 league meet was in Galion and I did not think TC won... however In know in 82 Norwalk won the title in Norwalk. Also hard to believe 83-87 Upper never won a title they had some real good teams and should have gotten one if they didn't...
