Think this will be a close, tight one td difference game. Key IMO shelbys running back, brooks, I don't think played in first game, though I could be wrong about that.

News Journal article has a misquote in it...at least the way I read it...it leads u to believe Francis didn’t play vs Shelby the first game. He didn’t play vs CF the first time but he did play the majority of the game at WR and on D vs Shelby the first time, just not at QB.

Let's just move it to Arlin on Saturday night. The seating would be better but, no heat in the locker rooms and no hot water for the players to take a shower after the game makes Arlin stadium a bad place to hoist a playoff game. It was almost like the stadium was winterized. LOL You would think a town that hoist a playoff game would be better ran and set up then that. I would be embarrassed if I were hoisting a game in our town and that's the best we could do. Plus the gates didn't open till 6:11. Very unorganized facility.

The key, imo, is can Bellevue D play significantly better. CF offense was pretty good this season, but they don’t have the same kind of weapons or as many weapons as Shelby has. Bellevue vs CF, both games, were relatively the same score...but Bellevue D played a little better (1 TD better). That won’t be good enough vs Shelby.

Shelby is too good. I think that will hurt the Bellevue crowd size.

They brought in auxiliary bleachers today, not sure how much more seating, but did bring in more Weak. Will the band have their own bleachers or will they take up even more prime seating? There is no doubt that some Shelby folk will be sitting on the home side. OHSAA FAIL for choosing this venue.

There is no doubt that some Shelby folk will be sitting on the home side. Reserving a section or two of the home side for the visiting is not unprecedented either, and I believe someone mentioned that it would be a possibility for this game. I've seen it done before at Fremont, which is another stadium that has a huge difference in the quality and size of the home and away stands. Not sure if that's something that Fremont does for every playoff game they host, or if it depends on the expected crowd (I remember it was that way for Fostoria vs. Genoa in 2008, but can't quite remember if they did it for Bellevue vs. Wauseon in 2014)

Correct, I definitely remember that Shelby was his first game back after injury, playing defense and WR only, and that we didn't start running the QB run based offense with him until the next week against Toledo Start. His injury took place on what was literally his first QB run of the season on Bellevue's opening drive against Canton Central Catholic, causing him to miss the rest of that game plus Clear Fork and West Holmes.

In 2009 when St. Paul played Wynford there in the playoffs, Ashland did not have any portable seats St. Paul's brought a lot of fans to the game to where the visitors stands were packed to the brim. It didn't take us long to realize that Wynford was using only about half of the home side so the St. Paul's fans went over there and almost filled the rest of the home side.

Schools are given the option to use the showers at the schools when there aren't any at a stadium.

I still don't see how people think they are going to fill up that stadium. Sorry folks, people just don't follow HS football like the used to. As much as I hate to say that, it is true. Heck many of the games I've attended this year there are barely enough people to represent a parent for the players, cheerleaders, and band kids. Its rather pathetic in these parts of the state.

I am not saying they will fill the entire stadium, but you obviously haven't seen the Shelby following (last year and this year). They bring a ton of fans, maybe they are not the norm but I guarantee if the rain holds off there will be more Shelby fans there than most think...unless of course you are a Shelby fan and understand that last week people that arrived around 6:45 or later couldn't find a seat available on home side of bleachers at Harding.

As far as Shelby leaving SBC, they have no one to blame but themselves, all they did is want to save the NOL and didn't do anything to try and find a better fix!! The SBC would be better than where they are going next year! The SBC will not be better for Shelby next year. Due to 80% of the trips for the Bay Division in fall sports are more than an hour and two are more than 2 hours. Where they are going has NO trips over 2 hours and only 1 trip over 1 hour.
On Google Maps, I am wondering which trips are two hours? Round trip yes. One way NO. Also, Shelby is considered "North" when it comes to Basketball and Baseball/Softball sectional tournaments. When you don't play most of those schools, they are going to get screwed when it comes to seeding for the sectionals/districts. If I were some of the Bay football schools, I would really consider not playing them. When it comes to winning with class, they have shown at times, it wasn't important to their program, which it is a shame. For winter and spring sports they become the smallest school in the Lake Division and play a completely different set of schools. Where they are going they will be a middle sized school. BTW, it will be a long time before Shelby has another football team like this one.

It took me almost 2 hours to get to Oak Harbor from my Parents place just south of town...Google maps does a poor job of factoring in traffic and stop lights...and Kids bladders....

I was at this game, great game, but my brother and I had about 10 rows to ourselves at the one end. It was no where close to full. The band will have their own bleachers on the track. That's how it is for all Ashland games. They wont take up any space in the stands. I watched highlights on WMFD from Shelby's game last week. They didn't fill up the stands in Marion WITH the band sitting in the stands. Don't forget there is room at commuintiy stadium to stand around the entire track, this site will have plenty of room for everyone that wants to attend this game.

www.sanduskyregister.com/story/201711140043Another shot at redemptionMark Hazelwood - Sandusky Register BELLEVUE — The 75th meeting between two longtime rivals will be no bigger. The Bellevue-Shelby series has seen it all throughout seven decades of Northern Ohio League football — and now the Sandusky Bay Conference. But for the first-time ever, the two programs will meet in the playoffs — and on the line is a trip to the Division IV state semifinals when the Redmen (9-3) face the Whippets (12-0) in Friday’s 7:30 p.m. Region 14 championship game at Community Stadium in Ashland. Bellevue holds a slight 37-35-2 lead in the all-time series. The two programs finished first and second (24-20) in NOL football titles prior to this season. “The fact we’re playing Shelby is neat, but for us it’s about an opportunity to get to the state semifinals for a fourth time,” Bellevue coach Ed Nasonti said. “We’re proud that we’re one of eight teams left, and we want to take that next step. “Our practices over last month have been outstanding,” he added. “The kids are having fun and have been enthusiastic at practice. We’re enjoying this.” And, for the second straight week, Bellevue will get the opportunity to right one of three wrongs on the schedule this season. The Redmen lost 20-14 in overtime at Clear Fork in Week 2 on Sept. 1, but then last week at Mansfield, turned the tables. Bellevue won that game, 21-13, handing the Colts their first loss and ending their season in the process. That sets up another rematch with a loss from earlier in the season. The Redmen visited W.W. Skiles Field in Shelby in Week 4 (Sept. 15) and were out of it early — much like every Shelby opponent this season. Ahead 14-0 after one quarter, the Whippets scored four times in the second quarter for a 40-0 halftime lead in a 46-0 win. All 12 opponents on the Shelby schedule have fallen victim to the ‘running clock’ rule this season. “We’re going to do what we do,” Nasonti said. “We feel we’re a better team than we were in Week 4, just like we felt we were a better team in Week 12 than we were in Week 2 when we played Clear Fork last week. We feel like we’re a better team. “We’re going to try and do better than we did the first time, and we’re also healthier than we were then,” he added. “But obviously when you look at Shelby, it’s like an All-Star team out there. It’s an outstanding team all the way around.” As Nasonti noted, the Whippets are a ‘pick your poison’ type team. Brennan Armstrong is the quarterback, who is a ‘soft’ Minnesota commit with 14 Div. I scholarship offers from schools in the ACC, Big Ten and Big 12 among others. Devon Brooks is a standout at running back, and Carter Brooks leads the way at receiver. They’ve got outstanding players at every position, and it’s no surprise to anyone who has been around,” Nasonti said. “We’ve watched this senior class come through since the seventh grade, so this isn’t a surprise to anybody. “Armstrong can sling it and run it, Brooks in the backfield is a handful and tough to bring down, then you’ve got the other Brooks at split end,” he added. “It makes it tough to defend. Defensively their line is big up front and holds the line of scrimmage — and their linebackers are active and they got the same skilled guys in the secondary.” Through 12 games, Dakota McPeak again leads the Bellevue offense. The All-Ohioan from last season and a candidate again this season has caught 61 passes for 1,162 yards and 14 touchdowns. Despite missing a good part of four games because of injury, Treston Francis has 1,037 yards rushing and 17 TDs from the quarterback position. That includes 291 yards and 5 TDs in the two playoff wins. Bryce Ray adds 958 yards and 6 TDs on the ground for the Redmen, with Riley Renwand completing 130-of-224 passes for 1,842 yards and 21 TDs with 10 interceptions. Defensively, Jack Howey has 118 tackles at linebacker, while Kolton Henry has 90 tackles and 11 sacks as a lineman. Bryce McMurray has 64 tackles and seven interceptions, which included one returned for a touchdown in Bellevue’s 34-6 win at Pepper Pike Orange. “We got a chance to face an undefeated team in the regional semifinals that had beaten us in overtime earlier in the year,” Nasonti said. “There wasn’t a lack of motivation to say the least, and that isn’t going to be any different this week.” Bellevue navigated a difficult 10-week schedule to a 7-3 regular season, but needed a win at Clyde (9-3) in Week 10 just to reach the playoffs. The three Redmen losses this season are to teams that went 10-0 in the regular season (Clear Fork, Shelby, Sandusky). “I think our team has shown grit and resilience all year,” Nasonti said. “Things haven’t always been easy for us. We’ve had to overcome some injuries, and last week Dakota being sick. We’ve overcome being 2-2 to start the year with a real tough schedule in front of us. “Our kids have shown a lot of perseverance this year,” he added. “Those are qualities hat not only help you during a football season, but also qualities that will help you later in life, too.”

We apologize for lack of heat and hot water last week at Arlin. New Athletic Administration has no clue about playoffs. Probably had stadium winterized after the Madison game. No excuses because we have held playoff games for years!

People tend to forget that area fans from other schools attend these games as well. When Bellevue played ASVSM in the state finals in 2012 that D4 finals game had the largest crowd of any of the finals games that weekend. I have no doubt the crowd will be big and expect even more from the whippets as they’ve been starving for this kind of a team or deep playoff runs for awhile. I’m sure the weather if it doesn’t hold off will factor in though as I wouldn’t have expected such a small crowd at a Bellevue vs Clyde game like there was this year with rain all evening.
Go Redmen!!!

We also forget that all games are on Friday now. Also not sure how many people are driving to watch a game that is a rematch of a complete blowout.
