Reality is a small town local employer knows when he hires a high school athlete there may be some days in the summer when that athlete needs to go and work on his sport. This happens in every school district in Ohio past and present. And the kids still have jobs. You haven't heard much then. If a kid lives out of the way but is good buddy of half of the team, he will have ways to get to and from practice. You must have been one of those guys that didn't have any good friends. Hope you have a great day. Is that truly being honest??

OR parents can tell their kids what my parents told me, what I told my kids and what my daughter and son in-law are telling their kids. "Your high school years should not be limited by HAVING to work. We will buy you the clothes you want, give you money for dates and will own enough cars that you won't have to buy one." That is brilliant. In a town where the poverty level is 23% you tell kids that need to work to help out, just sit back and starve if you need to. Come down from that ivory tower. And I did not say limited to work only. What I stated was there are conflicts and when there are they may miss some sessions.

Hope you have a great day. Is that truly being honest?? Yes! I have no hatred for anyone, this is just an open and honest discussion on what we believe and we have a difference of opinions. I can truly understand what these coaches go through at times but someone has to have the balls to step up and say the obvious, not just bandwagon.

I talked to an 8th grader yesterday that moved to Ontario from Madison and now lives with friends of mine that are caring for him. I asked if he was going out for football. He's a stout kid. I know football will help him make friends, provide structure, discipline, work ethic, direction and concept of TEAM. He told me he couldn't go out, because he hasn't been lifting. An excuse for not making a commitment. I told him coaches could not stop a kid from going out for football due to not lifting and it wasn't too late to start lifting. IMO there are too many kids that think like that and find excuses these days.
I have NEVER heard a kid make an excuse for why he couldn't stare at his phone or play video games.

How long does it take a high school kid to ride a bike 3 miles? If they want to be there they will be there.

I agree truecrimson, that is not reality and what is being said or done in most small towns in Ohio.

If anyone (Crimson5 or buckeyekid) knows how the boys do this week at eastern I'd like to know. I think they'll have a pretty good year and apologize for getting off subject, I was baited (i think).

Biked to school for class, on days with track meets, and for summer ball events. Of course, back then, I was more paranoid about the $4/gallon gas prices than anything. Point stands though: It ain't hard.

There is a 10-15 team shoot out at Norwalk today so ,and am offiating some tonight so I'll see some teams from the area. OK, didn't see everyone but talked to some of the coaches and a few people who were there fro the day. was mostly d3 and under with Norwalk and Perysburg being div teams. Perrys burg looked the best followed by Norwalk who didnt have chapin or sowders to of this years starters and a few bench players, from talking with other officials who did the other gym loactions and a few people who know the aera, the basketball over all was pretty bad, looked a lot like open gym, Vermillion , lost a ton and it shows, Edison young and not talented, BC has some talent but struggled against speed, ST Paul looked ok but, didnt look like they ran an offence , just came down and shoot 3's all day, Wynford was pretty bad, Bellevue was ok, Senca east has some talent, but nees to put it all together, there were a couple other teams I didnt see but over quality of the the games was down from past years of this shoot out. For the record, Pburg eliminated Northview who finished the regular season undefeated, and ranked #3, Division I.

Northview had beaten Pburg twice in regular season play by a combined 21 points and Pburg had been up in both of those games. So both teams were very familiar with each other.

I know I will get some flack, but this is one cliche I don't endorse. If you beat a team at home, and then away, shame on you not exercising your superiority the 3rd time. And, I'm going to guess it's at least an 80% rate a team won all 3 meetings. The only matchup that seems to have debunked this over the years was Bellevue-Norwalk.

Hearing one of the varsity starters got hurt in Ontario. Crimson5, know anything about that? Hopefully, something minor.

Hearing one of the varsity starters got hurt in Ontario. Crimson5, know anything about that? Hopefully, something minor. Little more serious than minor, heard more than likely done for rest of summer, could be ready in fall......pending MRI results, worse case could be ACL and done for season. On a different note, was informed Cok has been present at everything this Spring and is definitely playing...contrary to what I posted earlier.

Good to hear about the Cok kid, need that height and shooting. Keep us posted on how they do at Eastern.

strained quad, out for the summer Dawson kid usually a kid can bounce back from that over time I would think.Opportunity for the kid -whomever- is next in line for playing time.

Appreciate the update and wishing the kid the best. Sounds like they may need to do some shuffling around now he is out. What do you think this does to their team if he is out the entire season?

I was speaking to the Pburg-Northview games. Although Northview had won both during regular season Pburg had them down both times in the second half but could not finish. After 2 games of trying it was not a total surprise that Pburg won, even though it was an upset since Northview was undefeated.

Hate it when I hear any athlete getting hurt. Specially if he is a multiple sport athlete and it could affect his fall sport also.

This "sandbox" is called SBC Basketball. Only a communist would say you must be a Member of the SBC Party to take part.

Played Buckeye Valley, some team called Magic, maybe Minerva, and not sure of the 4th. Sophmore Cole Weiss has stepped in to replace Dawson at the post while injured and heard he was holding his own considering this is a big jump for him.

Gonna be fun watching him develop. Dont forget, his momma is one of Willards best ever.
