Shelby wins 64-44. First district title since 1998. Will play Lima Shawnee next Thursday. Congratulations to Coach Loney and all the players. You could tell who the more well conditioned team was tonight.

Shelby has a much deeper bench. Minor and Chapin sat very little if at all until the end of the game.

75-57? That sure helps my Dyslexia. I have to stop and think about it every time I need to write Norwalk's zip code, to make sure I don't accidentally write Shelby's.

Crazy to see that this is Shelby’s first district title since 1998 considering how many good teams they’ve had over the years.

Would that 1998 team have been Toby Stepsis?

Shelby has a much deeper bench. Minor and Chapin sat very little if at all until the end of the game. I noticed how gassed Chaplin and Minor were in the third quarter when Gray pulled them. Not a lot of teams around here that have been able to keep up with Shelby’s pace and depth. Next week will be interesting as they will start to run into teams that probably will match their style. Gonna be fun. Ironically, I believe the last time the Whippets made it to Regionals they also faced Shawnee.

Would that 1998 team have been Toby Stepsis? Yes, and Josh Steele who played at Robert Morris.

Forgot about Steele. Still can’t believe Shelby hasn’t won a district since then.

I like it and it allows the defensive intensity.

Would that 1998 team have been Toby Stepsis? Yes, and Josh Steele who played at Robert Morris. I remember those guys well. That was my senior year and Galion unexpectedly made it to the district championship against those guys that year. I remember Steele dunking it at Ashland University to seal their win.

I remember Steele dunking it at Ashland University to seal their win. If I remember right it was sealed long before that. Shelby won by almost 20 points even though the Galion defense held Steele below his season average.

Crazy to see that this is Shelby’s first district title since 1998 considering how many good teams they’ve had over the years. Actually Shelby has only had one team since then that would have been favored to win a District Title, 2010-2011 when they went 18-2. They were upset by a 7 loss Madison who Shelby had beaten earlier in the season by 9.

As it included Dials, Falknors, Dieblers, Langhurst and teams like Willard, Bellevue, Upper, Willard, Upper, PC. In fact the area had State semifinalists, State champions, State runner ups... Probably the best decade of D2 basketball this area has or will ever see.
