I’ll give my opinion on this game and team after I calm down. don't be shy. Tell us how you really feel Hahaha I will. There is a brutal truth for the buckeyes. I’m know coach but you don’t need to be to see what’s going on.

I know a lot of people are calling for Coombs to be fired, and I don’t disagree but I just don’t see Day doing that after the second game. If it does happen, it’ll be after the season is over, IMO.
I know Stroud had a nice game again but there’s just something about him that I’m still not completely sold on him being “the guy” to lead us to a championship in the next few years.

And where the hell is the D line? No pressure, no sacks. Did they even hit Oregon’s qb? Let’s be honest here, Zach Harrison hasn’t lived up to his hype yet in his career. Remember how big of a recruiting battle it was for him? And this summer there were people saying he may leave early after this season for the NFL? No way. And Tyreke Smith too, what has he done?

Defense line play was awful. Just straight 4-man rush entire game and still were able to shred 2ndary. Serious issues. When you have over 600 yards offense, usually win. Not today.

If the secondary is as green and thin as some have said it limits some of the things you can do up front. Coombs should be in the press box.

The offense looks fantastic. With that said, I’m waiting for Stroud to show me he has the “it” factor. He had two drives to tie the game and squandered both of them away. I’m just not sold on him yet, regardless of what he did all game. Elite QB’s put you in the end zone on those types of drives. I am always well aware that he is only a freshman, but he wanted this stage, now it’s time to perform.
RB’s, WR’s and OL, couldn’t ask for more. I think Henderson needs to be our starter, he is that good.
TE’s catch the ball, Ruckert and Stover both blew TD’s.
Now to the defense..
F- no pressure, horrible secondary, shotty angles, what gives!!! I take back my comments a week ago, there is something seriously wrong and I think it’s both on the players and coaches.
I initially said the buckeyes have dropped from the elite column. I’m not going to let my emotion say that is a. Fact, but the way they played on defense was embarrassing. Nothing less than embarrassing.

Nothing less than embarrassing. Agreed on Stroud, as I mentioned earlier theres just something about him that I’m not sold on yet. I truly hope he proves that wrong though. And completely agree on the defense. Simon needs to be in there way more than Eichenberg, no clue why he’s getting so much PT. He’s just another version of Borland. And Shaw cost us two TD’s by being severely out of place. Ari Wasserman did a story this week on Shaw and he was saying how he knows it’s his time and is ready to be a starter.. well he’s not showing it. He looked completely lost. And now with Proctor probably done for the year this gets interesting. And extremely disappointed in the D line. We are getting nothing from Garrett either who was supposed to be an All American.

On a positive note though, how damn good is our WR? JSN, Olave, and Wilson all went over 100 receiving yards today, the first time in school history they had 3 in the same game. I don’t see how any team is going to be able to slow all 3 of them down for a full game.

After stovers critical drop on the slant at the 10, he never saw the field again I think. He may be back on the D as he was originally going to play there when first was on campus

OFFENSE - OL have proved to be excellent pass blockers. However, as physically imposing as they are, they are sadly lacking in run blocking. QB C.J. throws well when his body is in position and feet set, throwing on the run is erratic at best. Being young and inexperianced his total focus is on his primary target and all too often, secondary receivers were wide open and went unoticed. Game experience and coaching will resolve most of the current issues. Wide receivers know their assignments and their sterling performances is testimonial to their skillset and tentiveness to coach Hartline. RB is a group of talented young men, that are hampered by an inconsistent run blocking OL.
DEFENSE - There is exceptional talent everywhere. On paper, this group should be excelling and at least, holding their own. The dowon linemen and DE's are deep and talented. Why they are underperforming to date, is anyone's guess. The position coach Larry Johnson is highly respected by his peers and has enjoyed proven success in years past. The defensive front offering no pressure all game long is perplexing at best. Linebackers have carried out their assignments adequately, but still unsettled, but they are in good hands with Al Washington. Defensive backs have been inconsistent at best, some going through on the job training, or trial by fire, while they try to overcome their youth and inexperience. With all the new faces, injuries have played a devastating roll in the early season chaos. When the defense is performing at the pathetic level it currently is, the DC is the man that get's the blame, whether all of the criticism is justified or not. We can all be reassured, Kerry Coombs vowed his personal promise, "the defense will improve". Problem solved.

What may prove to be the biggest loss of the day, other than the numbers on the scoreboard. The large contingent of recruits on hand to witness this embarrassing exhibition. This was supposed to be a day of stellar play, exhillerating joy and celebration, proved to be the opposite. I think our recruiting efforts took a big hit today, due in large part by the events on the field of play.

I think our recruiting efforts took a big hit today, due in large part by the events on the field of play. That is a huge problem, I’d be asking why am I going here if we’re losing to PAC teams, regardless of who it is. They should have won and didn’t. I can only hope these recruits left with the sentiment “that won’t happen when I take the field.”

The defense will hamper this team and worse part of it is should Stroud blossom that’s a NC caliber offense, no question!

i will say im not worried by the offense, but the defense is playing like the bottom 10. if the buckeyes struggle with tulsa win or lose i see tulsa getting 20+ points if the defense does it bad things. buckeyes will drop a bit in the polls and struggle with tulsa especially defensively they will drop again and then i see ohio state in the championship series is gone and will go to a mediocre bowl game at the end.

In the looks are deceiving department -- scUM is gloating after manhandling Washington -- a team that got beat by MONTANA last week -- so I wouldn't boast too much over that accomplishment

The defense question just got a lot harder. Josh Proctor out the rest of the year with a compound fracture

When we saw the air cast being put on his leg, that was definitely not a good sign.
They will need to move people around as Shaw is not the answer. Dude gave up two of the TD’s on his own.

At this point I don’t have faith that Coombs is going to be able to figure this out. They have a couple weeks to figure out who their 11 best are and get healthy (Brown/Banks). I would recommend going to a 2 safety look instead of the single high with Proctor out, but I’m not making over a million coaching at Ohio State. 17 shouldn’t be on the field at all. Hickman can’t read anything. Harrison is a 5 star bust. The next play a linebacker makes will be the first

Maybe we need to start questioning Al Washington too? Is he really this amazing linebacker coach that we all thought he was?

I think we have to ask is it the defensive scheme (Coombs) or position coaching (Washington)? The d-line isn’t doing anything either and nobody is going to question if Johnson is a good coach or not

Agree that the ugly loss may hurt recruiting, but wouldnt be surprised if OSU told recruits --- hey look, if you are good enough, theres a good chance you can step right in and start, especially defensively.

Fix the defense . Run a 4-3-4 as we are getting beat on the ground, not through the air.
Secondly—- 50/50 run pass. If we have to pass 53 times ,,,, not good.
3rd—-QB has to be able to run the ball a little bit anyway. I’m not totally convinced Stroud is The guy.
4th—Coombs isn’t the guy. Not not good with that hire at all. Teams get to be great by hiring good assistants — I’m afraid we have whiffed on him.

Except for a few pressures and possibly a sack, it never happened.
