In 2023, Bellevue will drop down to the Bay in football and Willard will move to the River.
The Lake and Bay will each have five teams and there will be a couple crossover games.
The plan will be finalized in December.

The plan to save Willard football and keep them from looking for a new league

Hmm. Not a big fan of dropping down to the Bay. I like the challenge of the Lake and the historical ties. Would rather see Perkins go down since they have more history with Huron, PC, and Edison.
But anyway, I suppose Bellevue-Clyde can still be a week 10 game if they put both our bye weeks there. I'd also definitely want to see Norwalk, Columbian and Perkins continue as non league games. 2 of those 3 can fill weeks 4 and 5.

I’d like to see what happens once Huron becomes a Div 5 or 6 school.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I don't think Willard has a shot at beating most River schools. Is there a Creek Division with freshmen teams from D7 schools they could play?

Will Vermilion drop back into the Bay for non football sports?
Right now it's 7-6-9.
Trading Oak Harbor for Woodmore would make that 7-5-10 if everyone else stays the same, but putting Vermilion back in the Bay would make it 6-6-10.

Is Bellevue schools seeing shrinking enrollments at the lower levels as maybe a reason they were picked for the Bay?

im ok with this move, but i still think bellevue should have soccer to match what everyone else is doing... you do lose athletes to soccer and it does matter... nothing against soccer, its just the reality THE reality is.....No 250+ linemen p!aying soccer. no hard nosed LB types playing soccer. If a good QB, WR or RB, do you want to play soccer after school on Wednesday in front of 100 fans or play football on Friday nights under the lights in front of 1000s? Kids playing soccer can't or don't want to play football. What football loses with a soccer team are the 25 kids standing on the sideline cheering on the team that never get in the game for significant minutes

Bellevue really doesn’t owe any of those programs or schools anything.

Also, how easy is it to find quality soccer coaches to fill those positions? Its hard enough to find coaches for the money generating sports let alone the country club ones. I don't think having soccer hurts a sport like football more than it would cross country. However, I am curious why Huron folks are so stuck on this soccer thing. As far as the movement in the league... I am sure there will be some news article explaining it and I would venture to say it will be a rotating thing as enrollments will continue to change for a lot of these schools.

I mean isn’t that the entire point of all of this? That being said it won’t be long until Bellevue starts playing soccer. The states shift towards vouchers and open enrollments will put schools that offer less at a disadvantage.

Can I say I think soccer is an EXTREMELY boring sport to watch? Might be "fun" for the people playing, but watching it is a snooze fest. Reminds me of grade school kids playing keep away on the playground at recess. <-------Matter of fact, that might be more exciting to watch! That's all, carry on!

Bellevue doesn't have Swimming, either. Are we going to hold it against their Boys and Girls Basketball? Wrestling?

I didn't see the Register article until now: sanduskyregister.com/news/348243/sbc-moving-bellevue-football-to-bay-division/Some key points: - Vermilion does drop back to Bay for non football sports - there will be 2 mandatory crossovers - division lineups will be determined every two years based on enrollment - Bellevue and Perkins 2018 enrollment were tied, they went back to the 2016 numbers to determine who dropped down. - 10-8 was considered, but they went with 5-5-8 because "Some of the Bay schools felt that their best chance to compete for championships would be to go to two divisions"

I have a feeling that in a couple years a couple of the Bay schools will not be very happy with this. Let’s face it football is the driving force behind many decisions made at the high school level.

I think this is a bad idea too. Why can't they keep Bellevue in the Lake and only have 4 in the Bay? Force some crossover games to help with scheduling. Conferences aren't that important any more with 16 teams getting into the playoffs but, putting Bellevue in the Bay will create some pretty lopsided football games.

Does the River Division serve any value to the Lake/Bay schools in other sports? At all? Is there a big wrestling or track meet that benefits with their presence? Or is the entire thing a charade to bail Willard out?
I wouldn't blame many of the Bay schools for being scared of the Lake schools in football. The pedigree since 2017 in the Lake speaks for itself. That being said...how does a culture of offering concessions hold up? Bay schools, from the perspective of the divisional arrangements this year, are going to wind up playing 3/6 of the Lake schools in 2023. Seems like things can exist for quite a while on the basis of short travel and no better options at all. If it works, it works...
I can't see the Lake/Bay schools imploding unless the OCC sheds some members and makes a few phone calls. Even then, I'd think the OCC would be better served to trade Mt. Vernon/New Philly for Shelby & Clear Fork. Though Clear Fork probably enjoys their 23-7 record in MOAC play since joining.
