I’ll begin with what I see. When was the last time in any area conference that a team went undefeated in league play and then did not win a single game in league play the next? That appears to be a reality down in the valley. We knew they would drop off, but would’ve never thought this far. Shelby had better not overlook Pleasant. They are better than they appear. The same can be said about Ontario against Highland. Galion’s morale was sure back having Ivy back, and I think that will propel them through Marion Harding and into the playoffs. Their goals coming in was a league championship and winning a home playoff game. The former is off the table, but the latter is still very achievable.

Injuries have been disaster to the colts. That and not having Dave Carroll coaching. There is no debate that coaching can make a difference but with graduation and injuries, this team is nothing compared to last season's.

Decimated by injuries to Week 1 starters. Have been playing with many backups at key positions since the midway point of the season. But I also believe coaching has impacted several games. The offense has been lacking imagination since week one against Lucas. Most people would say Brokaw should've thrown the towel in and started prepping for next season and trying things out weeks ago. Some would say that it is hard to install new stuff when you are missing so many starters. But if those people you are plugging in do not know the regular stuff... then what does it hurt to put in new stuff?! Defense has done pretty well IMO considering they are on the field quite a bit.

That was the point I was trying to make. I just can’t remember the last time went undefeated in league play one year and then the next year didn’t win a game in league play. It’s unfortunate that they have been injured as that definitely impacts things.

Found one for ya.
Norwalk 2014: 11-1 Norwalk 2015: 2-8, with non-league wins over John Hay and Columbus East
As far as generally north central Ohio teams are concerned, that seems to be only instance on first glance.

1986 Austintown Fitch went undefeated in Steel Valley Conference play to all defeated in 1987. Granted, only 3 Conference games.
1991 Boardman went 4-0 in Steel Valley Conference play to 0-4 for 1992.
Typically Steel Valley Conference was an assortment of Boardman, Fitch, Cardinal Mooney, Ursuline, and Warren Harding

Clear Fork at River Valley - River Valley should take care of business at home. The Colts have shown a little bit of heart the past couple of weeks against Shelby and Highland. But they don't have enough fire power to stay with the Vikings. RV takes this one 35-19.
Pleasant at Shelby - Pleasant has been a bit of a surprise this year and Shelby better not over look the Spartans. They won't... Whippets 33-14. Ontario at Highland - Ontario may be licking there wounds a bit this after losing that thriller last Friday. Highland have been a little disappointing this season. The Warriors cannot afford to sleep on the Scots. Could be a good game. Warriors 35-21 over the Fighting Scots.
Galion at Marion Harding - I've heard Galion is getting healthier. They should be able to take care of business. Tigers 30-14 over the Presidents.
Ashland @ Lexington- should be a competitive game here but Lex has a history of not playing well against the Arrows. Last year was a case in point when I believe the Minutemen had a 28-14 lead and fell apart late in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Losing 42-28. Might be a blessing in disguise if Lex loses. I don't think a date with Toledo Central Catholic sounds like a good time. All that being said I like the Arrows 21-17.
Madison @ Mansfield- the TYgers roll in this on 45-10.
Mount Vernon @ West Holmes - the Knights usher the Yellow Jackets out of the OCC in a nasty way. 55-6.
New Philadelphia @ Dover - will this be a conference game once again...who knows?!? But it should be a good one nonetheless. I'll take the Quakers on the road over the Tornadoes 24-20.
Oxford Talawanda @ Wooster- looks like both teams are struggling this season. Long trip from Oxford. The Generals take the win 14-13.

Clear Fork at River Valley RV rolls in this one. Too much firepower for the Colts, RV in a clock game Pleasant at Shelby Whippets by 21. Pleasant’s had a nice season, but I think the Whippets are focused to claim at least a share of the title. Ontario at Highland Highland is tough at home, but just think Ontario has too much on the mind to lose this one. Ontario by 10 Galion at Marion Harding Galion seems to be getting healthy, Tigers by 20 Ashland at Lexington Lex, only because it’s home. Minutemen by 7 Madison at Mansfield Senior Senior has the 3rd string in after half. Mt. Vernon at West Holmes WH in a clock game Talawanda at Wooster no clue what a Talawanda is, so I’ll take Wooster New Philadelphia at Dover New Philly

A fun fact going into week 10: Drew Pasteur measures the Most Improved Teams in each division. Each point of improvement roughly equates to a 1pt margin on the field. I.e., a team with a +10 has a 10 point improvement in average expected margin of victory/defeat in any given game.
In D2, Marion Harding is the 4th most improved team, with a +23.8 D3, Ontario is the 3rd most improved team, +33.2 D4, Shelby is 5th, +27.9 D5, Pleasant is 1st, +38.6
I remember giving guff to the MOAC last year, but I don't see a lot of room for criticism this year. As far as math is concerned, half the league has shown considerable, excellent progress over the 2022 campaign. Not bad considering only one team, Clear Fork, had a significant decay in results. Galion, RV, and Highland did plenty to maintain a similar status quo despite the heightened competition. Not bad, MOAC.
A kudos should go to Monroeville, who went from 0-10 to 7-2 thus far this season. Drew has them at a +47 improvement, #1 in D7 and more importantly #1 in Ohio. That's essentially watching a team improve by a 7 TD margin per game from one year to the next. Wynford is the 8th highest mark in D6. Pretty cool to see a lot of teams in our neck of the woods taking this season by storm.

Here's the time capsule for how the 2022 playoffs went for the MOAC. I think the league can easily top it this year.
2022: 1-6 record - Shelby L 49-7 - Galion L 40-9 - River Valley L 65-14 - Highland L 37-7 - Ontario L 38-0 - Clear Fork W 56-26, L 42-14
The MOAC is on track to have six teams in playoffs again. I think everyone can manage to improve on being outscored 297-107 from last year.

They have a very solid running game and with the obviously wet conditions tonight Shelby's passing game will be negatively affected. To me, this will be a toss-up game

Harding is win and in for playoffs (likely), lose and they’re out. Unfortunately for them, bad matchup. They can’t stop the run and that’s what Galion does. Tigers by 21
Shelby over pleasant by 14 RV and Ontario roll

Shelby 23-0 after three. Three Shelby TD’s with one missed PAT. One TD was a pick six. Either Shelby made some incredible adjustments or MP just decided they were ready for basketball. I’m not sure they have a second half first down.
