I wonder if most of the Big 10 thought they weren’t going to have a season and lightened up on practice and training while Day knew he was going to fight until his team got something resembling a season so he kept working them out. Hard to explain why PSU looks so bad just one year after being respectable. Did anyone, ever expect a James Franklin team to look this bad? What's as enjoyable as the folly on the field, is the Harbaugh post game press conferences....very entertaining. Michigan's regression will greatly effect their less than stellar, recruiting efforts. As recruiting declines, so do future performances on the field. The reverse, should be the case for Indiana. I've become a Tom Allen fan, except next week when the Buckeyes burst their bubble.

It will be more difficult for Ohio State to get the best players out of Indiana every year. With the new found excitement around the Hoosiers, I agree. Add to that, much like Ryan Day, Tom Allen is truly a players coach, that most any player would enjoy playing under. The Indiana effect will easily, be countered by our recently established, recruiting influence and prowess in the state of Michigan and Pennsylvania. The 5* safety, Derrick Davis from Pennsylvania that we lost the battle to LSU, is a head scratcher. LSU, like Mich. & PSU, are garbage.

well toledo is in a bad spot as far as losing to western michigan.1 game back to western and and far as tie breakers its like toledo being 2 back of western michigan.toledo has to win out last 4 games and western has to lose 2 if toledo is to win the west. toledo is hoping that central michigan beats western and then western has to lose to northern illinois, eastern michigan or ball state while toledo beats central michigan at the end of season.central mich vs west.mich is on espn2 next wednesday toledo also plays at eastern mich on cbs sports network.wed.plus cbus i didnt say western dominated. i said toledo had the ball 17 more minutes than western, toledo had over 500 yards offense to westerns 437,but western had big plays for their yardage but like i said it was those 2 bonehead plays, the onside kick by western and the fake spike where toledo frozed and the receiver was wide open for the winning score.toledo cannot have anymore bonehead plays this season. remember the presason picks have 1.central michigan 2.toledo 3.ball state 4.western michigan. Sometimes gadgetry and trickery is successful. In any case, coaches have to have their players prepared for any conceivable situation. I'm going to try and pull up the game again and painfully, review the ending. These kinds of games make the game, the fun game it is. Can't remember the game this past week, but the winning team, with a comfortable lead in the waning seconds, faked a knee and threw for a TD, further padding an already large, final score.

The Ohio State/Maryland game cancellation is certainly not good news for Indiana. The Buckeyes have two weeks to prepare for Indiana, while the Hoosiers focus is on MSU. What If Indiana says they found enough cases to cancel the Ohio State game? They both win out and Indiana has one more win than Ohio State. It then goes to criteria, which is record of teams beaten in cross division games. Ohio State has games with Nebraska and Illinois. Indiana plays Wisconsin and Purdue. Check the probable records. It will not matter who is obviously the superior team I think you hit on the dark underside of using the Covid situation as a tool to improve a teams positioning. There remains a possibility, Maryland may have done that very thing, by avoiding what, most likely was a loss, by using their Covid reports to their best advantage. Could they have played, minus the couple athletes that tested positive and a full team getting the negative testing required? I'm guessing, if they had the will, it could have happened. Could Indiana avoid playing a team that they are heavy underdogs and instantly enhance their post season standings in the Big Ten and post season bowl assignment? Kinda makes one a bit nervous, if you are Ohio State, because every team on their schedule could potentially, opt out and avoid the loss. All it would take, is one false positive and a little manipulation of the facts as they were.

sportsjock, toledo is overated, the bowling green game is a mirage.now toledo is in a position to need help because next weeks western michigan vs central michigan winner will be 3-0 the other 2-1 and toledo doesnt play central michigan till the end of the season so toledo has to win the rest of the way and western michigan has to lose 2.i dont see that happening. and if central wins over western michigan, then the MAC WEST could come down to the last week with toledo at central michigan.its possible but not likely that these 3 teams could end up in a tie.so its starts this week with central vs western michigan and toledo cannot lose again. i dont think toledo can beat miami of ohio or buffalo in the mac championship if they do get there. toledos defense has to improve plus stop those silly mistakes or their season be over in a hurry. Toledo is the class of the MAC, this year, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Last night was a fluke occurrence and most unfortunate, they put themselves into the position and the scenario, that you have so elequently explained. I'm sure the coaching staff is kicking themselves. You are certainly are more up on the teams and how the games and standing could play themselves out. The shortened season allows for few, if any losses. One thing we both agree on, pretty good football to be played and I look forward to Tuesday & Wednesday nights.

Thinking Toledo had everything well in hand, flipped to another MAC game. What a bizarre ending, to a game that had no business ending like it did. Toledo is clearly the better team and fully expected them to win out their remaining games. As the announcers were commenting, the Rockets were running at will the first half and why they went away from that, is a mystery.
The MAC has really found their niche, with mid-week football, giving them maximum esposure and a large viewing audience. Very entertaining and pretty good brand of football, on a weeknight ususally filled with old movie re-runs.

They will, or should, score 49 again but I don’t know how much more than that they will go. My gut feeling is that Day won’t want to do that to Schiano. Maybe I’m wrong though and Ohio State scores about 70, which they probably can if they want to. Man, were you 100% on the money!......lol I'm gonna ride your shirt tails the rest of the way.

This is the weakest I have ever seen the Big Ten. It actually helps Ohio St. when Michigan has a good team and Ohio St. beats them. Indiana looks pretty darn impressive and we know Wisconsin is going to be among the countries top teams. Also, keep an eye on Northwestern. It's a matter of us, sorting this transformation out in our mind and forgetting the past. Traditional powers of the past, are on the decline (except OSU) and former doormats are enjoying new found respectibility. I don't think Indiana is a flash in the pan. For some reason, always enjoyed watching Indiana football, much like I enjoyed watching the Hoosiers in basketball.

Our backfield looks like Lydell Ross and Maurice Hall are back there. Not impressed. Yeah our run game looks pretty bad, if we can’t even run well against Rutgers how are we going to against Alabama or Clemson. After 3 games the most glaring areas of concern are the secondary and the run game. Our roster of RB's, all lack the speed, shiftiness, elusiveness and creativeness we enjoyed with J.K. Dobbins. Of course, next year we have J.K.'s clone, that possesses all those qualities, in 5* TreVyon Henderson. Unfortunately, that doesn't help us this year.

The double O.T., Clemson/ND thriller, was perhaps the best game of 2020. My general feelings on Notre Dame till this point, was they were over-rated. With the Louisville game sticking in my mind, where they eked out a 12-7 win against an average Cardinal team. The quality of play and general poise and confidence of this team impresses me and will probably impress the playoff committee.
It is most likely, these two teams will battle for the ACC Conference Championship at Bank of America Stadium, in Charlotte, N.C. The only other one loss team besides Clemson, is Miami and Clemson already blew them out.
Clemson will find themselves in an unusual position, where a second loss vs. Notre Dame keeps them out of the playoff picture and perhaps opens the opportunity for Cincinnati, or a host of one loss teams to creep back into the picture.

The biggest mystery continues on the status of highly recruited Lejond Cavazos. A 4* safety out of IMG Academy and formerly of Seguin, Texas. Lejond was clocked at 4.4 in the 40 his senior year and has good size, at 6-1 196 and what made him even more appealing was his early enrollment on Jan. 6, 2020. Lejond has been absent from the scene and the OSU coaching staff has been tight lipped, not revealing a clue as to the situation. I'm thinking it's not academics, since OSU has been totally avoiding borderline prospects. Borderline student/athletes, usually are less coachable and pose a potential for a host of issues on down the road.
Ryan Day went hard for the safety position in the 2020 recruiting class, acquiring 4* Ryan Watts from Little Elm, Texas and 4* Lathan Ranson from Tucson, Arizona.
FLASH: I just answered my question on Lejond. This quote from coach Coombs on November 3rd:
Coombs also mentioned "true freshmen Ryan Watts, Lejond Cavazos (who is close to returning from a knee injury) and Cameron Martinez as guys that will need to step up at corner for OSU with Brown out."

It is apparent, Ryan Day's top objective, is to develop and improve depth at every position. So, it might be wise to have your roster sheet handy, when viewing the Buckeyes Saturday. Again, developing means actual and meaningful, on field PT for those further down the depth charts, unlike any year we have ever seen previous.
GO BUCKS!!!!

There is no doubt Ohio State, Clemson, and Alabama are a cut above the rest. I don’t believe that is a shocker, but I really wonder why the heck no one else is able to make that climb. It has seems the last few years it’s been these three with a couple others sneaking in, but consistently the same three remain. I shouldn’t be too hard on the secondary, I just see the guys catching balls for Bama and Clemson and think, we can’t do that against Penn State and expect better when we play the real elite WR’s. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, but we did do it against Penn State. Remember, arguably, we held them to one legitimate FG 1st half and we never got burned on a deep pass. Have confidence that Coach Day meant what he said, when he uttered "This could have been a once in-in-a-lifetime team" - August 12, 2020. The kids stepping in, were among the best in the country, when they were recruited out of high school and this is Ohio State, next man up. Why has no one else been able to make the climb? One word.....recruiting Right now, Bama, Ohio State and Clemson get their major share of the top recruits and have the best coaching staffs and the history. Georgia and to a lesser degree, Oklahoma are just a shade off the big three. Please take the time to ponder this man's comments, through that most difficult period. These quotes won't be forgotten anytime soon. The guy's a man of action and soon took a very well planned and executed course of action, that made something happen, that most said was a virtual impossibility. This guy is not your ordinary, everyday coach. We are slowly learning, he is cut from a different cloth and just how special he is, we will all learn, game by game, season by season. (These excerpts, taken from 11 Warriors.) Ryan Day, Head Coach 🎥 Watch press conference On reacting to the news:I have a range of emotions – sad, angry, frustrated – and I think our players do as well. But they’re a mature group. You’d really be impressed at the way they’ve handled themselves. They feel like they’ve had something taken away from them, but at the same time, we’re really getting focused on what’s next. We owe that to these guys.On how difficult it would be to not coach this current team:I’ll get emotional if I start thinking about it. As a player, you work your whole life – and as a coach, you coach your whole life – to get a chance to have a team like this. This team is special. It’s special because it has talent. It’s special because it has leadership. It’s special because of the character. It could’ve been a once-in-a-lifetime team. There was just something about this team that had it.On addressing team after news broke:One of the hardest conversations I’ve ever had to have. To have to look guys like Jonathon Cooper in the eye, Justin Hilliard, Justin Fields, Josh Myers, Tuf Borland, Pete Werner, Baron Browning, Shaun Wade, Sevyn Banks – there’s so many guys who’ve put so much time into this program. It was an awful meeting, but the message was that in life, things get taken from you. Although it’s hard, they’ll use this as a reference point when things go bad in their life. We learn a lot of life lessons in football, and we’re going to have to learn how to work through this. Our culture is built on fight. We got to fight to stay strong. You don’t just wake up the next morning and everything’s fine. Not when you invest this much time and effort into it. It’s not fine. It’s devastating. It’s going to take some time to heal, but as we keep putting one foot in front of the other, we’re going to get going again. On how he addressed Cooper, specifically: I told him ‘I can’t explain why this is happening to you.’ Life can take you to your knees. This sport can take you to your knees. But it’ll make him stronger in the end. He’s going to have a bright future no matter what. He’s an unbelievable young man who’s had an impact on this program. On how players and parents spoke out: From the get go, the voices of our players and our parents were very, very important. It’s one thing for a coach to sit up and say it’s safe. It’s another thing to have our players and parents speak up for the way they feel. I thought their voices were strong. It’s hard for me to look them in the eye after everything that’s been done, and we’re still not playing football. There’s been a lot of sacrifices made by a lot of people. Right now, we got nothing to show for that. That’s not an easy call.On possibility of playing any sort of games this fall:That’s a fluid situation. We’re still exploring all options. This thing is moving. It’s changing. We are looking at everything. I promise you that. We owe it to our kids to do that.

As we all have been saying for a long time now, it’s becoming more clear that the season will come down to Ohio State, Clemson, or Alabama again. Seeing some of these other teams around the country play and it’s clear those 3 are separating themselves from everyone else. Ohio State Will make the playoffs, but have to figure out something with their secondary to win it. Bighoss had a good response to that, and I'm in complete agreement with him. Losing Cam Brown was a big loss, but this coaching staff will develop the talent we have and have them playing well, with marked game by game improvement. What I saw was good coverage most of the early part of the game, but when they went into Tressel mode, straight handoffs offensively and it was apparent, the defensive secondary were instructed to not surrender the big play and keep everything in front of them. Consequently, coverage got softer and more underneath stuff from PSU. No one is arguing the fact, this secondary, consisting of talented players, with little game experience, is a work in progress. The coaches have a perfect stretch of opponents, to patiently develop them into a cohesive and reliable unit. Bighoss: Buckeyes secondary played better than most here are giving credit. They completely shutdown Penn St’s receivers in the first half. Penn St made adjustments at half that included using short crossing routes that eventually loosened up the outside. Wade looked disinterested for some reason in the 4th qt, which was very odd. Penn St isn’t recruiting bums like a certain school up north. Let’s not forget Ohio St had 2 corners selected in the top 19 of the draft. No school is not going to take a drop after that

Looks like another Joe Burrow story is unfolding. One has to marvel at the amazing performance of DeVonta Smith, with 11 catches for 203 yds, 4 TD's this week. He has amassed 759 yds. receiving on the year, averaging 13.5 ypc and a total of 8 TD's.
Just like Joe last year, very happy for DeVonta!

I was impressed with the play of our OL and DL. The running game improved dramatically from week one to week two. Both backs ran well, early on. Garrett Wilson is unreal and he will be our key, going into the post season. In all, a solid performance, except the kicking game. 2nd half, we got very conservative offensively, relying on straight handoffs. This was a good win, with no major concerns, other than the status of Cam Brown's injury.

The futility continues in Ann Arbor. Harbaugh's got my vote for 'Big Ten Coach of the Year'. It never goes to an Ohio State coach, so it might as well, go to our best recruiter. Pulling for Texas, but their defensive backfield is terrible. The late 1st qtr. OSU passing td was the result of an illegal pick, no flag. LSU is officially on the trash heap of has beens. Ryan Day did win Big Ten Coach of the Year last year but it was the first time an OSU coach won it in like 40 years. Thanks for reminding me of that fact. Maybe it was an anti-Urban bias thing. The man never got his due credit.

MSU is threatening an upset in Ann Arbor, before 110,000 absent fans.
Watching Clemson's struggles against BC, reveal a defense that is vulnerable. If I hear "the #1 team in the country", "Americas #1 team", "The top team in the country", "#1 team in America" etc., etc., etc. So we've heard this 50 or 60 times. Enough already!

ALSO from Texas, originally thought to be a sure Texas commit. Many are saying these players not going to Texas and the way the Long Horns are playing is the end of Tom Herman. They were supposed to be Herman's "firewall". If you recall, most of Urban's years, the Buckeyes were very slow, out of the gate, on recruiting. Not the case with coach Day. The Buckeyes have acquired key 4* & 5* committments early on, which has a snowballing effect for those important recruits, who may have otherwise, wavered. Day's staff has those early recruits join in the recruiting process, from a players perspective, so they hear from their potential team mates, a great recruiting tool. Besides all the other important criteria, every player wants to part of a great recruiting class.

QB Quinn Ewers from the Dallas area, the #1 player in the COUNTRY in the 2022 class, has decommitted from Texas and the "crystal balls" are saying he will commit to Ohio State. Ohio State first offered this kid when they saw him at their camp when he was an 8th grader, at the time he was better than all the high school QBs at the camp. He's said to be the best QB coming out of high school since Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. 247Sports has him 100% Ohio State They also have 5* WR Caleb Burton 100% Ohio State

It would be cool to witness a scrimmage though. I don't think a Bama, Clemson or Ohio State would embarrass themselves.
