Please list the schools other than Willard that have more than 5 career 1000 point scorers.....Im curious. For the record, the website I use only lists Willard with eight 1,000 point scorers because it does not know for certain the points scored before they attended Willard high school. With that being said to try and answer your question using that same site. In Huron county only. # of 1,000 point scorers by school Bellevue - 8 Monroeville - 4 New London - 6 Norwalk - 11 Plymouth - 9 South Cent - 7 St Paul - 7 Western Res - 6 Willard - 8 (it does not list/include previous school points for Heath, Augspurger and Parrott)Sounds like a cool site. Actually to be consistent the Willard should probably add Wayne Robinson who scored 1,000 points for New Haven before transferring to Willard for his SR year in 1956...which with Vogel's rationale would make him the first Willard 1,000 point scorer. Move over Mike Buurma you are no longer the original king of Willard scoring. Also this section of the site does include Augspurger's Twin Valley South totals, Parrot's Western Reserve Academy and any other known 1,000 point scorers who split schools. crawfordcountybasketball.com/1000.html

I always find this list humorous knowing Derek Heath scored 1,000 points before playing his first game in a Willard uniform. Surprised the list doesn't include Jeremiah Diebler as well. With transfers being more of a thing, will we ever identify in records a kid that scored points somewhere else? If we are okay taking Heath off the list like buckeyekid suggested, do we also take Parrott off? This would mean that Paxton is now only the 10th player in Willard history to score 1,000 for Willard. I honestly have no issue recognizing the kid if he hits 1,000 in his career while playing for that school, whether they were all there or not. Derek's is just funny to me since he transferred into Willard with 1,040 points already in the books. I wasn't there, but maybe stopped the opener his senior year before tip-off to recognize him for that achievement. I was also friends with the family and there is no ill will with him ending up with Willard, only with the BC school board that non-renewed his dad.

I know it’s a conversation for another day but I’ve wondered why a town the size of Bucyrus needs to have two small schools in it. It’d be like taking Norwalk high school and splitting it in two. I know when it comes to school pride and town egos some things never change. Actually three schools. Colonial Crawford has numerous homes inside the city on the east side. Wynford comes inside the city on the other three sides. Bucyrus technically only has one high school. Wynford and Colonel Crawford are neighboring local school districts who now encroach the Bucyrus city limits, but the district boundaries were drawn a century ago. Mt. Zion High School which covered the south west side (Bucyrus Township) was occasionally referred to as Bucyrus Rural…not sure if that was that districts actual name pre-consolidation or not. crawfordcountybasketball.com/Crawford.pdf

I just find it ironic that Pleasant feasted for years on Northmor, MG, Cardington, Elgin, Ridgedale, etc in the original MOAC. Now they are down and right away they are looking for a way out. I find it doubtful that the N10 would be wanting them. The only other options would be the NWCC or the KMAC. what is their enrollment trend? also, it wasn't long ago Galion left the NOL for a league they could compete more consistently in... or at least that was the perception same goes for Ontario wanting out of the NOL If Pleasant leaves though... does Lex get in? WF will correct you later.

Smith announced his retirement from coaching today. He spent 32 seasons (411-327) coaching at his alma mater, including four Firelands Conference titles, 17 sectional & three district titles, and the program's lone state appearance (1997). Is Bob Haas available to replace Mike Smith for a 2nd time? See if anyone remembers that situation.

League Championship is much more impressive than division championship. "Safety in numbers" why? Is there a SBC League rule that if a couple of River school leave, then 1 or 2 Bay schools will be made to move down to the River? I can say the schools of the Ohio Capital Conference consider their division a “full conference” and is a true league title. The benefit of the mega conference is the ability to slide schools around to cover enrollment changes or if schools leave/join the conference. There were no discussions about other divisions at the league swimming, cross country and track meets I’ve been to.

I just read on line that Wynford has hired Mike Smith as their new basketball coach. I have known Mike my whole life. He will do great. Wish him all the best, except when he plays my alma mater 😀 Congratulations Mike He's been coach at St. Paul for 31 years? Would you believe there is more than one Mike Smith in the area? This one is a Wynford grad and has been a Royal assistant.

Shelby wins 85-74 after being down 63-53 at the beginning of the fourth. Shelby outscores RV 32-14 in the final quarter. Pugh finished with 39 to set a career high. Not sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there has been anyone from Shelby to score 30+ points in three consecutive games since Larry Seigfried was a Whippet. If anyone knows that I’d be curious to know. Since Siegfried, only Cal Dietz (68/69) and Ben Carver (03/04) even had 3 30 point games in a single season. None of them in consecutive games. Siegfried had two streaks of 4 games his senior season, 15 games total (if you include the opener versus the Alumni). 01/22/57-02/01/1957 32 Madison 43 Columbian 58 Crestline 34 Norwalk 03/01/1957-03/15/1957 34 Madison (Sectional) 45 Sandusky (District) 33 Mansfield Senior (District) 35 Lima Senior (Regional)

I read today that suicide watches have been placed on 17 basketball players in the Columbus area that have not been allowed to play games this year. For many kids in big cities sports are their life, their escape, their only reason for living. Another cause of death by THE virus that will not officially be attributed to it. Google has failed me in trying to find this actual story. I saw the reference in the News Journal story, but can't find a story for that headline.

Upper has acknowledged both Dieblers and Cameron McCreary as 1,000-point scorers even though a portion of their points were earned at other schools. The silly thing is Jake had around 1375 at Fostoria before he transferred to Upper.

That's funny. Definitely not all suspensions get noted, but I try and double check the stories when normal scorers do not show up in the box score. Wish I had the thought to do that early in the project as opposed to the last couple of years.

Quite honestly, no. As someone stated earlier if it is for a state record, maybe the combined points hold water. The names on the leader boards at these schools are or should be points scored AT THAT SCHOOL (IMO). I agree with that. I know that Mansfield recognized a kid a few years back that scored points at a small D4 before transferring. I think it's fine for a school to recognize someone at the time they hit 1,000 (or some other arbitrary number) in their career. If your going to include their totals in any listings you have at the school, or in print though, it would be fine place to use an asterisk. This area has had a lot of players hit 1,000 between multiple schools, whether they were from consolidation on transfers. Jon Diebler (Fostoria & Upper Sandusky) Noland Robinson (Norwalk & Willard) Bob Hoyt (Butler & Clear Fork - consolidation) Jeremiah Diebler (Willard & Gibsonburg) Cooper Parrott (Western Reserve Academy & Willard) - My guess is this is the one that started the questions Derek Heath (Buckeye Central & Willard) Ed McCants (Marion Harding & Marion Catholic) David Groff (Union & Crestview - consolidation) Derek Goodman (Gilead Christian & Cardington) (Gilead Christian did not offer basketball his JR/SR season) Joel Guth (Clear Fork & Willard) Mason Campbell (St. Peter's & Madison) Nathan Shoup (Pleasant & Marion Catholic) Boyd Purcell (North Fairfield & South Central - consolidation) Mike Schifer (Mt. Zion & Wynford - consolidation) Jason Ellis (Ridgedale & Marion Harding) - I know they have his name hanging on a banner in the gym and it ****** off some alum Rod Brewer (Mt. Gilead & Northmor) Rick Smith (Attica & Seneca East - consolidation) Camron McCreary (Colonel Crawford & Upper Sandusky) Troy DuMonte (Carey & New Riegel) Tom Bogner (Republic & Tiffin Columbian) Maynard Goare (Chesterville & Edison [Morrow County]) Sam Gehbardt (Lykens & Holmes-Liberty - consolidation) Neil Walcher (North Fairfield & South Central - consolidation) Josh Alexander (Ontario & Wynford) Terrence Carmichael (Mansfield Malabar & Mansfield Senior - consolidation) Calvin Dietz (Crestline & Shelby) Don Givens (Sparta & Marengo - consolidation) Tony Augspurger (Twin Valley South & Willard)

Ok, putting State borders aside, what if John Doe played for the Cleveland Christian Ruffriders (non sanctioned OHSAA high school) for 1 year and scored 400 points. Then transfered to Toledo CC for the next 3 years and scored 900 more points. How many total points go in the record books? Again, not playing under OHSAA rules.. If you would allow this, why wouldnt you allow AAU scoring as well ?? What you score for a total as a school that is a member of the OHSAA is what is counted... Now if John Doe played at Sandusky, for 3 years scores 1500 points, then transfers to Perkins and scores 500 points... 2000 points goes into the record of the OHSAA... I'd suspect the extent of the OHSAA record books is what they have listed on their website which right now requires 2200 points. They used to have the cut-off at 2000 points, and I'd be surprised if they actually maintained that list (or especially have added to it) when they deleted it from the website. If you threw in OJ Mayo's varsity points in Kentucky (as a 7th and 8th grader) and his Senior season at Huntington, WV he would surely qualify with over 2200 points. I did always enjoy the fact that Willard (or Willard fans) somewhere recognized Derek Heath as a 1,000 point scorer for them, even though he had already scored his 1,000 points at Buckeye Central before transferring for his Senior season. In inconsistent practices though, they include Paul Walker's 121 coaching wins from Kentucky as part of his career total while they considered him the states winningest coach. No mention that former National record holder Ralph Tasker's 1122 wins included 5 at Sulphur Springs, Ohio.
