I believe Perkins is the team to beat, but Lake Division is about deep Postseason runs. Pirates have to get away from finese to achieve this Norwalk may get 3 wins I think 4, Start, North, Rodgers, and Vermilion. Maybe 5 with Edison. Edison returns quite a bit..

I'm sure you saw vapor trails. Thankfully I wasn’t sacrificed to run those events!! I did however run a 4x2 against their B team indoor at Findlay and it wasn’t pretty!! One thing you boys did get to take home back in the day Birdman for winning the SBC was a trophy! Something the 2023 Pirates times 2, Rockets, Tigers, Cheiftains, or Senecas won't have .. they get a pat on the back, thank you for coming, good luck in tournaments..

Girls 4x800 - record Huron in 1999 with time of 9:44.90 this year their best is 9:28 boys 4x200 - record Oak Harbor in 2015 with time of 1:30 this year tiger team has a best of 1:29.58 at margaretta invite boys 4x100 - record Perkins in 2003 with time of 42.9 this year tiger team 42.37 at huron invite Oak harbor will push the boys... girls likely not to get pushed in the 4x8 I stand corrected. Those are great times. That should if they keep that pace put them damn near at the top of the podium. right now Ohio's Fastest Times in Relays in D-2 Boys... 4x100 Glenville at 41.89 , 4x200 Glenville at 1:27.45.... 4x400 Glenville 3:22.35

I believe the 4x1 and 4x2 records are still held by Perkins. It’s time to pass the baton onto the next record holders!! I’ve been impressed this year with the SBC and their performance. Glad to see it!! Girls 4x800 - record Huron in 1999 with time of 9:44.90 this year their best is 9:28 boys 4x200 - record Oak Harbor in 2015 with time of 1:30 this year tiger team has a best of 1:29.58 at margaretta invite boys 4x100 - record Perkins in 2003 with time of 42.9 this year tiger team 42.37 at huron invite Oak harbor will push the boys... girls likely not to get pushed in the 4x8

So far I see Huron has put down some very good times in their relays. Among others there are great throws, and other marks. Columbus should be littered with guys/girls from the SBC. right now the girls 4x800 and boys 4x1 4x2 SBC records are in jeopardy... suppose to be nice weather

Former Ram Coaches with tournament success: *Al Fendrick 175-80 (winning 24 tournament games) from 1929-1943 *Ron Barbo 141-72 (winning 7 tournament games) from 1977/78-1986/87 *Even Doug Rickert was a respectable 67-45 (winning 7 tournament games) from 2007/08-2011/12 Unfortunately, being "one of the good guys" which is what Mergel apparently was, doesn't pay off in big time high school basketball in today's world. Analytics & Tournament Results do. Not to mentioned Transparency between your HC and players determine a man's succuss. The Ontario board made the right choice in terminating/not renewing Mergel. Todd Friend has been vocal over the weekend that Carl Schnittke is who they would prefer to have. But as mentioned, he has no interest as of now. I have never met anyone who said Mergel was a good one. In fact I have never met anyone who had any interactions with him say anything positive. Honestly the only thing shocking about this is that someone at Ontario hired this guy in the first place. Probably should be the next person to go. don't follow them much... his first coaching game was at huron... they got blown out by 30 i believe..and it was much worse then that... played again late february in sectionals... much different ontario team.. more competitive, more understanding of their offense/defense. some how i think the coach had something to do with that..but they had won like 4 or 5 in a row late in the season. they were on the rise.. so it is more than basketball that would lead to a non-renewal if that is what it was.

I read the article Joe wrote. I’m assuming you’re referring to the “recruiting part”. We used to hear that about him recruiting out his Johnson. It had no truth to it.. great programs draw them in. By being great programs.

Edison is open after Kyle Hammond steps down. Would this be because he is going to his old school on the lake? . Mmmm negative.

Huron has not had much luck against Ontario or Wynford back in the days... 98-99 they did however beat both to get to regionals... now we don't even play them.. except for last year. Huron's only walk on state soil 1917 defeated East Liverpool and then power house Dayton Stivers (21-15) to win state.. game was played at Ohio Wesleyan and even though the OHSAA was around they were not established enough to put together tournaments.. Those Indians (now Tigers) were lead by Bill Sliker who is a very big name in the history of Evansville College.. Also Addie Klien who was the uncle to Dick Klien .. Indians that year defeated Heidelberg college freshman team.. We still have their trophy in the trophy case! and put them in the hall of fame back in 2017.. State championships in boys basketball are few and far between in erie county Margaretta 1932, St Mary 1936 and 1980 Actually Huron played Ontario last 2 years in a home and home yes,, plus a sectional game..

Shelby’s best player would be going there if the family lived where his dad was from and not where his mom is from. Add him to that team. side note, the Coach who put OG on the map? Norwalk alum, Dave Sweet and his son is current coach at Oak Harbor..

Things just haven't worked out for the Tigers as far as the state final four is concerned. I recall in the early 70's when Coach Hagy had Lou Wargo, Tom Merrill, Dick Garton, etc. Undefeated in the regular season only to lose to Genoa with Ron Hammye in the district. I think Genoa had another yeti almost as big as Hammye. There were many of us that thought that the Tigers had a decent shot to advance. Alas, Class AA was loaded then. Genoa beat Huron by 12 followed by Genoa getting spanked by Delphos St. Johns to the tune of around 20 iirc. Delphos played Elyria Catholic in the semi-finals. Ready beat DSJ comfortably in the title game. How many Huron teams have been as good or better than that team? When Genoa beat Huron that year I was convinced that Genoa had to be for real only to get handled by DSJ. What I remember about that Blue Jay team was that they had identical twin brothers who were studs, Dan A. and Dan J. Grothouse. They weren't very big guys but were talented, they played together at Findlay College if memory serves. That was really the first I ever even heard of Delphos, being from Sandusky and all. Or perhaps I just lived a sheltered life. Fast forward just a few years and I am marrying a girl whose relatives are all from Delphos. It didn't take long to get caught up on how successful DSJ had been over the years. And if you are looking for trouble on a weekend you can get your butt kicked pretty quick in Delphos. Tough town. District Dino had some pretty good teams but Ontario and Wynford were always there waiting. Surprisingly a .500 team in the 98-99 season that featured Jim Fisher and Greg Cobb got hot at tournament time and were District champs and then beat Metamora Evergreen in the Regional Semis before losing a close game to Coldwater who eventually made it to the title game. the team of springer faflik johnson hohler caporini lost in OT to wynford in district finals, wynford made it to state that year... that was the toughest pill to swallow because we had a 10 point lead with like 4 minutes left..

This is what I think the State games should go. Division I Semis Pick Central/Centerville should be a great match-up but I give the edge to Centerville. Hoban should beat St. John's easily. Final- Centerville over Hoban. Division II Semis Chaminade/Lutheran West should be another great match-up, I give the edge to Chaminade. Buchtel/Ready- Ready should beat Buchtel easily. Final- Chaminade over Ready Division III Semis Africentric/OG could be the game of the weekend, I give OG the slight edge, but it could be toss up and I truly believe that the winner from this game will be State Champs. Lutheran East/Harvest Prep could be another great game, I am going with Lutheran East. Finals- OG over Lutheran East Division IV Semis Crestview/Hiland- I give Crestview the edge, seen them play a few time and they look long and athletic. Richmond Hts/Russia- Richmond Hts. will win, but it might be closer then what people are thinking. Finals- Richmond Hts. over Crestview i'd be surprised if OG gets past Lutheran East.. have seen both in person..

The talk concerning the private vs public has been going on since the early 90s when it started to blossom. Certain coaches took advantage of the existing rules at that time with little oversight. Today, much of what happened in the past continues. New coaches coming in have figured out the formula for success in a hurry. More importantly with the pandemic closing public schools and canceling games (even this year) has forced kids along with parents to look for better alternatives than public schools. This has destroyed many once tradition rich big city schools. Kids with talents and parents want an education and playing time. The over zealous school boards closing schools have only added to the acceleration of talent moving to private schools. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Once the trend has been set up it will will increase in time. There are multiple examples of this if you study history and compare to today. Since the early 90s I have been waiting for privates to win all division in both boys and girls. Only a matter of time till it happens now Once kids at other schools lose interest and no longer play and schools can’t field teams whether it’s basketball or football and the privates and Catholics take over then it’ll be an issue with the OHSAA. Look at how many schools already do 8 man football and also those schools that are very close to this. It’s just sad to watch the deterioration. biggest problem with high school sports... AAU Rossford came together from AAU. and if you watch them play.. they play like an AAU team.

O-G: 47 Cardinal Stritch: 25 END 3RD QUARTER As it stands now O-G is taking Stritch to... I'll let jake say it. what is really scary,, Colin White didn't have to be the scorer.. 16 points, but it was a quiet 16.. he passed a ton setting up his teammates.. we're heading toward a OG v LE state title game...

Wayne Trace: 34 Canton Central Catholic: 29 FINAL the final minute of play by canton cc had me scratching my head.. they have 4 team fouls.. down 3.. and let it go all the way down to 17 seconds before fouling? logic is where??

So Canton CC is in the BG regional instead of the Canton Regional which is just minutes away. Lol At the draw, Canton CC had the choice of going to a district (Gilmour) that feeds into the Canton regional or a district (Wooster) that goes into the BG regional this year. NE Ohio having 5 districts in D3 this year hosed things up. so stay local get crushed by Lutheran East. or travel great distance to get crushed by Ottawa Glandorf..

Crestview is a team of "bigs" if you consider all of their starters being 6-2 as "bigs". they play a good physical brand of basketball.. they get the shots they want to take . 6'2 or 6'3 whatever they are. they're solid.. a good team.
