Still think that this 2019 DISTRICT championship Willard team splits with a 1984 STATE CHAMPION Monroeville team? LOL! For the record, I don't believe that the Flashes had more than 3 guys "put 20" on anyone, all year long. To say that 5 could is hyperbole. Still an outstanding season for the Crimson Flashes. My congrats! For about 14 minutes of basketball on Wednesday night, it looked and felt like the clock had been rewound. Good luck next season. Knite that team you saw last week looked like the first 2 months of the season unfortunately. The last month of the season and the sectionals / districts we looked like a very interesting team. We showed a bit of that in the first quarter, then the rubber rims punched em in the mouth and they did not recover.

Scarlet is a voice of reason amongst the Willard Dads of the world, not only above but throughout the season. You have to crawl before you walk and Willard did that. However don’t get so hung up on record that you begin to compare them to STATE champs and Flashes teams of years gone by. They beat Vermilion and some other decent teams then got blasted in regionals by a double digit loss team that bowed out the following game. I’m sure I’ll get called a hater but it won’t change the facts...

Scarlet: I saw Willard vs. Tiffin Columbian, and then Upper Sandusky lose to Mohawk the span of less than a week, IIRC. I said then that Willard would win the District. I realize that what we watched Wednesday was not Willard's best. My initial comment was much the same as what Cly/Jabber/Port/etc/walk stated, that the cart was being placed waaaaaay in front of the horse by X-legend in his comparison to a STATE CHAMPION Monroeville team. The 2019 team was MILES away from being a State Champion, but that doesn't take away that they were a good team, playing VERY well over a long stretch of time. Fun to watch, and good for the area to have "back."

You call it splitting hairs, I call it FACTS. Your new boy friend, Willy, he'd just call you a liar. Coldwater doesn't beat Monroeville any more than Willard would/could. If you're going to count Coldwater's 3's, then, shall I remind you, Monroeville would get the courtesy OF ACTUALLY PLAYING WITH the 3 point shot line. I saw them score 118 (that's 5 or 7 points higher than the Willard school record set in the late 80's/early 90's after the rule change) WITHOUT the benefits of a 3 point shot. Your "guarantees" and "predictions" are about as solid as your grammar and spelling. LOL!

And while we're at it. Define "better."
Does Willard go better than 19-3 in the regular season? Is that where you're shooting?
Does Willard advance past the Sweet 16? Is that your claim?
Both would be TALL orders, 11-12 months out. At this time LAST year, Carey was odds on favorite to repeat. Upper Sandusky overtook them during the Summer signing period. Willard improved greatly in the same time frame, and got a big boost (justified from my reports) from the OHSAA mid-season. They passed Upper Sandusky in early to mid February, and I stated this.
Having a couple of studs populate the '18-'19 roster helped make this a damn fine unit. More of the same in the pipeline? I'd be fine with that, just asking?
Will the schedule be beefed up beyond Norwalk and Perkins? That could play in to the wins and losses. A Holiday "Tournament" would be nice, but will it be a win or loss? They don't usually schedule the downtrodden for those....
We await your retort......

Not one.the 3 returning starters should get better. Picking up norwalk is nice but I don't think they can hang with us next year even though they have nice players coming back.why do you think we'll be worse.I think we'll play a whole different style of basketball next year without Devon. At least I'm not going to back peddle about what I said about us and Monroeville. Just because a team doesn't win a state title doesn't mean the weren't a hell of a team.I'm not trying to go tit for tat with ya. I can tell you actually like willard. So no ill will .

Got it. None here either. I respect your ability to back your play, no matter how much you're wrong about Monroeville. I also didn't really SAY what I thought, merely ask you for YOUR thoughts on next year. Undefeated in the SBC I can get on board with that. They are the favorite, by a wide margin, going in, but I know that 6'4" manchildren are very hard to come by. Triplett's presence alone opened up those 3 point shooters, and defensively, kept bugs out of the paint. An ankle turn, or an untimely suspension could cost them a game or 2. Anybody on a given night. Huron won't suck, Margaretta the same. Vermilion and Oak Harbor should be plus .500. Edison's sophomores are decent, but somebody finishes last. It's them. All of the above applies to the other dozen games, with an enhanced schedule, or not. As for this being a hell of a team, again we'd agree. And for where they came FROM, it speaks higher still of them. I saw them play some really good basketball, but we both know that they are a fur piece from being mentioned in the same breath as a State Champion, and a whole bunch of other really fine Willard teams. Did they have that potential? Maybe. Did they max out THEIR potential? YES, I'd say that they just about hit their top end. No shame, again, in not being "equal" to some other teams that advanced further. Maybe those teams exceeded their potential? We could probably both name some...

We had one kid that could shoot it but that's it.like I've said before we need to develope shooters. Kids need to stay in the gym and work on their game.with what we have returning we should be fine now does that mean another regional run. I'd say yes but I hear stone kid from Carey is going to upper so it'll come down to us and upper in district finals.I think if kids show joe they can shoot the 3 and play defense then well be a run and shoot team. We'll see. Long time away yet but go flashes

Where I will agree w x is we had the schedule to go 22-0 this yr. We were better than upper but totally lost on the court in game 1. No way we should ever lose to margaretta. Losing to Vermilion no shame there though.
Glad we weren’t 22-0 or else we’d really look silly being ranked top 4 in state undefeated and then getting throttled by Coldwater.

I agree with X on quite a few things as well. Concerning next year, looking at this years bench and the JV team...a tall order to repeat this year....but doable. Dawson will be the heavy in the middle. Is he Devon's replacement......no. But I still like his game...great defender, runs the floor very well, goes 110% all the time. The Freshman probably replaces polachek......however, Adelman is capable as well. Meisner, Mock, and the Weiss kid will be the core of the bench. The Slone kid would be a huge addition in the middle if he decides to play again. Biggest question marks for next year ....can Baldridge take his game to the next level consistently (showed he has tons of game a few times this year), can the freshman continue to mature and give them 10/game next year, can we all stay out of the coaches way and let them build a team...I'm still working on this one. Parrot will be really good to great, Pinkston will be solid as always.

I'd agree with most all, from all above me. I am just an old schooler, and as Coach Haas and dozens of others have said, give me a point and a post and I'll win games. Triplett's don't grow on trees, and you'll miss him more than you think. Others will step up, and the team will be different. Better different, or the same different:), or worse different? We will see....
Upper Sandusky will be decent with or without Stone. He brings challenges too. He also may not be the only free agent signing. Enjoy the ride Flashes fans, it's always good to be relevant.

Keith Diebler was hired and like most kids who live with their parent they move when their parent moves. Not sure how some see that recruiting. If the Winslow twins go to Upper it would be to live with their father. Lacy was in a high school, talked to another school's coach and changed schools.
