Are you ready???!!! The Galion Tigers head to the Bucyrus High School Athletic Complex to take on the Bucyrus Redmen this Friday night. Galion was victorious 37-13 last year, keeping the Seccaium Park Trophy in Galion for the 10th straight year. Since the trophy was created in 1996 Galion holds a 15-8 advantage over Bucyrus. This is one of the oldest rivalries in the state dating back to the 1890’s. Thoughts on this one.....

I don’t normally comment on the get go but despite Galion struggling at Tiffin last Thursday, I think the Tigers win this by at least 3 touchdowns. I think Galion will be decent this year and with all the dysfunction and turnover (they debut a new coach) I think the Redmen will struggle. I don’t think Galion will struggle to score points and they may have the best running back since Drake Barnett in 2015 this year. The defense needs to improve but I don’t think Bucyrus will give them fits.

Back in the day, this WAS a great rivalry where you threw the record books out the window. However, the Redmen have fallen on hard times. It is difficult for a struggling team to compete with an improving program at a school that is almost twice your size. Having said that, from what I am hearing, the Redmen do have some talent, some size, but no depth. They have some kids that have worked hard in the weight room, and have a bunch of experience with 13 seniors. If the Redmen can catch some fire and reduce the mistakes, they may make a game of it. I could see Galion with running clock, but I also could see Bucyrus keeping it close, and with a few breaks, pull off the upset.

Besides, Bucyrus struggles against the likes of SMCC whom just went to 8-Man football.

Normally, any self-respecting Galion fan would want to blast the **** out of your last statement, but I'm NOT biting; especially when it sounds like nothing more than condescension.

Honestly I don't have a problem with Galion's schedule other than 5:of their last 6 games are on the road. Bucyrus has been a long time backyard game and the gate has to be solid.

Refresh my memory; who are they avoiding unless you mean they're one of the culprits denying Big Lex a shot at MOAC?

I think you are underestimating Bucyrus in this game. I understand that Bucyrus has fallen on hard times in recent years, but this team is different. They are the most physical team Bucyrus has had in many years, with a very dominant defense. This game is going to be close. Bucyrus dominated Mount Gilead, Ontario, and Willard in scrimmages and should have been up after the half against Northmor. They have given up 2 TD's in preseason action. If Galion comes in thinking they are going to have their way with Bucyrus they have another thing coming!

Come game time, we'll see ! ! !

I am not going to go out on a limb and say that the Redmen are going to win....Galion is a pretty big hurdle. But upsets do happen in a rivalry game. Unlike some years in the past, these kids are strong....the have an excellent weight program I hear. The biggest thing the Redmen have to do is to learn how to win again. After all..the game is 50 % mental, 40 % physical, and 10% luck. It could be an interesting game.

I've heard good things about what Bucyrus has done in the off season and I think they will be much improved. I don't think they will be the easy out for most of the N10 teams that they have been recently. That being said, I think Galion would go 5-0 this year against those teams mentioned.

Very dominant defense? Game is going to be close? Galion has another thing coming? Always better to remain silent if not knowledgeable about opponent.

First of all, Galion has some real weapons. Their big players are very good. But let’s be honest, the played a team who continuously shot themslves in the foot. When the Tigers play a team that does not make stupid mistakes, they will have some problems. Bucyrus did move the ball on the Tigers at times, and several of the Tigers drives were extended by stupid penalties and other mental breakdowns. Bucyrus dropped several passes that should have led to scores.. There was no doubt Galion was the better team. However, The game should have been a one or two touchdown game, but the Redmen made it a butt kicking.

Good luck with the rest of the season in the N10(?), Bucyrus.

However, The game should have been a one or two touchdown game, but the Redmen made it a butt kicking. First, give me some of what you're on. For starters, that game could have actually been worse. Our varsity only punted ONCE during the game. The deep post(or really any deep route) was open any time we chose to throw it. We could have been scoring within 3 plays every time we touched the ball. Clearly we were committed tonight to working on our running game behind one of the softest O-lines I've ever seen for their size. That we couldn't drive the Bucyrus D 4 yards off of the ball at will was embarrassing and cause for alarm. Why the Bucyrus coach did anything other than run at our perimeter defense the entire game absolutely baffles me. I promise you Carey will. I really couldn't fathom that we could be as bad defensively as we were last season. Yet here we are. We can't tackle and our outside containment is a joke. That being said I do think that with the athletes we have much of this is correctable. Now that it's on film let's hope we can learn from it and get better.

Good luck with the rest of the season in the N10(?), Bucyrus. I correct myself...I meant to say the game could, not should, have been a closer game. If Bucyrus catches a few dropped passes, doesn’t make drive extending penalties, or was able to keep Galion from converting on a couple third or fourth down and a mile drives, the game had the potential to be closer. But remember, the Shelby’s, Clear Forks, and Pleasants of the world are not going to be so charitable. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I'll tell you what, we'll worry about Shelby, CF, and Pleasant. You just worry about winning 5 or 6 games and finally getting us some computer points for a change.

They are good programs. As for the computer points, don’t count on many. Even 5 wins against small schools and winless teams won’t generate much. I am a very competitive person and respect tradition. Having said that, I think it is time to end this series. Bucyrus is not competive with Galion any more, and won’t be any time soon. With average class sizes if 80 kids, and shrinking every year, it will be even more difficult in the future. It does Bucyrus no good to open their season on such a bad note. Galion does not get many points. No one benefits from the series any more. Over 100 games between the two schools is great history, but times change.

STILL shooting themselves in the foot, making stupid mistakes, stupid penalties, having mental breakdowns and dropping passes. Another thing. Are you saying Galion played a perfect game??. NO team ever plays perfectly, especially in the first game of the season. Without a doubt they also made mistakes that without them would have led to more scores.
