This will be on 95.3 WLKR. 6pm JV tip.
Figured this game could use it's own thread.

I would have preferred both teams at full-strength. Good measuring stick game moving toward post-season play for the Whippets. Even if Shelby pulls off the upset, there will be an asterisk.

She got 1 game because she's the coaches kid, Anybody else would've been longer. Personally, I think it should have the rest of this season.

Amazing how much one player stands out when she's not there.

Was an ok game but nothing extra special. Atmosphere was even somewhat calm despite the packed house.
I didn’t see a down Bellevue bench after the game, I saw a ticked off motivated one.

But I think there were a lot of Shelby fans tonight. Karma

Shelby did a great job defending the perimeter, making Bellevue work hard for any good open looks from 3, and I think we only made around 3-5. Rebounding tends to be an issue for us against good teams due to our general lack of height, but what was disappointing was the inability to control low loose balls tonight. There were also a lot of out of character turnovers due to lazy passes and poor ball handling, and there were several times the offense went stagnant while 4 girls stood around watching the ball handler force something up, and no it wasn't always Cory.
Speaking of Cory, she took over the game for a while, during the last few minutes of the 2nd through the middle of the 3rd, leading Bellevue from down 12 to up 4 at one point, and also during a short stretch where it was a back and forth one point game until she got to 20 points. Then Shelby shut her down and she didn't score again until the final 10 seconds, and Bellevue was stuck on 36 for about 4-5 minutes of the late 3rd early 4th as Shelby built a 7 point lead and it stayed roughly at that margin way until they pulled away further in the final 2 minutes. Shelby's point guard being a great ball handler and taking away Bellevue's bread and butter of steals off the press and pickpockets in the backcourt was also a factor, as I can really only one quick steal off the press that lead to points.
Also, regarding the atmosphere, I was somewhat surprised at how reserved the Red Rage was. I was expecting them to really exploit the Casey situation in their cheers, but other than one "T-M-Z" chant while Cory was at the foul line I don't remember any other mentions of it. They also had a really high ratio of positive cheers supporting their team vs. anything negative toward Bellevue, so props to them for that.

I’m sure the administration had a brief discussion with the red rage reminding them they did not want Shelby to end up as a national news story as well

I commend the Shelby Admins for being pro active with their student section. Nothing good comes from that kinda stuff. The damage is done at both schools and both girls will no doubt have scars to show for it. I wish the best for the Norwalk gal. I hope she has a full recovery, but it sounds like it will take her out of her last few games as a Senior player. My daughter got injured in HS in Volleyball in 2014 with 5 games left in her Senior year. It stinks, but kids heal and they are resilient and they move on. Injuries are the unfortunate part of the game, regardless of sport or reason. She eventually healed up and ended up going to State in track which was totally unexpected. Now 6 years later and within 4 months shes getting married--and those 5 missed VB games,,and the State Track meet are the furthest things from her mind. Point being, life goes on and HS sports are not life and death although adults and parents try to make it seem that way at the time.

As a Bellevue guy I still believe it should have been two games not just one but I’ve also come to the conclusion as posts went on that no matter how many there would be many unsatisfied.

Yeah, they will beat Sandusky bad, let’s just hope they stick to playing basketball Wasn't it Sandusky that took out Carly? I feel a bad beat down coming for Sandusky. It was a legitimate basketball play and it looked bad because of the way she came down. It was not intentional and far from the most recent actions. If you ask area schools, bellevue has a reputation of dirty play but I think a lot of that is jealousy from not being able to beat them. They have a well established program and have had fantastic talent come through but the most recent actions are flat out ridiculous.
