I have learned from a very credible source that Highland’s BOE will be voting on this when they meet tomorrow night. One of the reasons was lack of JV sports in KMAC. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

If this happened who would the KMAC replace them with? Loudonville? Lucas? If this rumor has any teeth, both of those schools should already be in the process of preparing an application to join. Only one would get accepted of course but they are both ideal sizewise and geographically.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? This was one of the reasons they were talking about it a year or two ago. Also, no varsity soccer programs in the league as well as few freshman games available in certain sports.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? With Highland struggling to win their winter varsity games is it really an issue if the league has limited jv teams? Their boys and girls basketball teams have won 15 games total out of 41. Does it make sense they would be looking to get into a bigger stronger league?

What do their struggles in boys and girls basketball have to do with it? If you are interested in fielding soccer teams/tennis teams/swimming teams/golf teams/ and yes even jv and freshman teams then a school the size of Highland has to move to a conference with other teams with those programs. I can't imagine being an AD and trying to fill out those schedules while being in the KMAC. Besides, the prospect of playing Galion in basketball twice a year can only be an added bonus for them.

The struggles of varsity sports has everything to do with changing leagues. It is usually the primary reason a school would look to do so. It is quite common for a school to field teams that not all schools have. Today, filling an event is an email or a text and when you have it set it can continue for years. The headache could be with your transportation department as you have multiple buses going in different directions. Besides, Galion boys beat MG by 10 and Highland split with MG so that may not be as exciting for them as you think.

It appears this rumor does have teeth. My source is telling me this is happening. Something official will be announced very soon. Perhaps as early as today.

Highlands school board voted last night and approved the moves from the KMAC to the MOAC. Not sure when they will begin play but looks like the Scots will have some new competition

I understood that the only question was when. That one may still not be answered yet. As far as who might replace Highland in the KMAC, my guess is the will have their pick of Loudonville, Lucas, or Crestline.

when would they become full time members? I'm being told MOAC play will begin during the 2021-2022 school year except for football. Football will start in 2022.

I would have to think they would be interested. They are joining the NWCC for football only in 2021 and will play a BVC schedule this fall. KMAC would be much closer than either of those. Plus they were in the old MOC with the Morrow County schools.

Not that it actually matters, but if the KMAC wanted to have its name continue to be at least somewhat accurate, Loudonville would be the choice, since at least a small part of that district is in Knox County.

I lied, not approved at board meeting. Likely to be approved at March board meeting.

This is a big difference. Although the end result still may be the same, with the opportunities Highland has had to join the MOAc and continuous turned them down, if the KMAC makes an effort to keep them it may be an easier push to get them to stay over leaving.

Utica is another option. I think they would take a long hard look at leaving the LCL if invited.

Up until the past couple of years Highland was a big winner in football and basketball. Surely this type of decisions isn't based on the results of a couple of years.

If Highland leaves, and I've always said this, their gates will suffer. They currently have the luxury of all three of their geographical rivals being a fifteen minute drive. In the KMAC they are centrally located with short trips to the entire league.
But at the same time I'm kind of tired of this every year. If they want to leave, just go already. Lucas, Loudonville, Utica, or Crestline would all be fine.

Why would we "ask" them to leave? They're our second biggest rivalry and always provide a great gate. I'm sure other schools feel the same way.

That was the point, most on the outside do not know that and think because they are larger they would be unwanted. Unless you know the history's and the community rivalries you wouldn't get that. I would have predicted Highland would have been a part of the KMAC as long as it was around. Which may still be the case as the initial report ended up being a false report. Now there is a chance for a month for behind closed door discussions about this.
