It will be just as dangerous walking the halls in schools as playing football. Schools will have to hire dozens of "watchers" and "separators" stopping students from talking within 6 feet, holding hands, rubbing against each other and exchanging spit. No different than sweaty arm pits. New duties for the "git back" coach.

Everyone will have to wear gloves and have no skin exposed on any part of their bodies, much like muslim women.

You made a statement regarding your belief that it is currently not safe enough to play high school football. I simply called bullshit. If you actually believe that the risk of playing high school sports is somehow greater than the risk of reopening the schools then you are the one with a comprehension problem. And to your last statement I've been in Hell since this shutdown began.

I believe they could be allowed to return to their workouts but until I see football teams strap on helmets and pads and start hitting I'll be skeptcal. And since Ohio State was mentioned I'll start there but actually this pertains to all state schools in every state. IF fans aren't permitted then all collegiate sports at state schools will be funded with tax payer money? It migt happen to some extent at smaller state schools but at a school like OSU I gotta think the FB budget goes along ways towards funding some of the lesser sports.I find it to be a hard pill to swallow if there are no fans in the seats, spending money on concessions, parking etc. and they game goes on by kids not paying for school and my tax dollars are going to fund it.

If it makes you feel any better more and more schools are announcing cuts to their athletic programs everyday. Funny how you are in favor of draconian measures to protect the few and now you are completely fine taking away opportunities from kids to help offset the costs.

It's only in decline marginally when it comes to private sector stuff. I fear that when it comes to the high schools, colleges, and amateur athletics that the protocols Dewine will allow her to put in place will be too numerous to overcome by fall.

The reduction of authority was voted on by the Ohio House so that is fairly major. Regardless, unless it is backed by uncontrollable death totals or overwhelming medical needs from outbreaks, the pressure will be more towards the return of traditional activity we had before Feb. At least that is the way I see it going as of today.

The DeWine administration is allowing all golf courses to be opened to the public. All tennis courts opened to the public. All fitness centers opened. Has given the go ahead for summer baseball and softball leagues to start. Allowing swimming pools to open.
Then why isn't the OHSAA allowing high school golf and tennis teams? Why isn't the OHSAA allowing high school weight training and work out facilities to be used by students? Why can't high school baseball and softball coaches work with their players? Why can't high schools that have their own indoor swimming pools start their summer swim programs? No one is stopping joggers from running in parks and on trails, why can't cross country coaches start their summer workouts?

DeWine, the governor of the STATE of Ohio has no problem with Ohio's STATE Universities doing what they want. BTW, the OHSAA asked to be included in the committee that determined what sports and athletic activities would be allowed. Lieutenant Governor Husted's committee failed to include them. Husted said the State never gave any direction that outdoor high school sports should canceled. What does that tell you?

Ohio State football players returning to campus on June 8th. If that's OK with DeWine, why can't high school football players return to their workouts?? Big difference - money. THE has enough money to sanitize and disinfect every nook and cranny at the Woody while most HS are cutting custodians and have little kid managers. It’s coming but the logistics are much different.

galion: I've literally never been on facebook in my life. There is something we do have in common. One of the reasons I did use that as an example is that I'm amazed at the number of people I talk to who claim to have facts they read on Facebook.
This isn't a reference to you galion but more of a story one of my friends from Pennsylvania told me some years back that made me look at state university funding in another light. Penn State was fined $2.4 mil for the Jerry Sandusky crap.He mentioned it was absolute BS that his state tax dollars contributed 1 red cent to Jerry Sandusky's fine. And essentially it did.

Not sure about that bead of sweat but they are far more capable of meetIng the protocols that are being set. Small towns are cancelling summer ball because they don’t feel they can maintain clean facilities. Look at what the CDC has for guidelines for schools

Again I ask...Where is that money coming from? And the easy answer could be the FB program and while that might be true taking money from the FB program only strips money from other budgets in THE that the FB program helps fund. Then the money for secondary sports comes from the general fund which is on Ohio taxpayers. Screw that NO FANS IN THE STANDS no play ball unless it's Pay per view. The last place i want my tax dollars to go is to some athletes on a free ride.If college sports can self sustain I'm fine with that.

That judgement was levied against the university not Sandusky. Of course the university had to pay it. It's no different than when a police dept gets sued over the actions of an officer. It's still tax money. You better get used to it because if that judgement against the state of Ohio from Cincy gets upheld through the appeals process just about every business that was shut down by Acton and Dewine is going to be suing the state for their lost revenue.

Every D1 program in Ohio that doesn't start with THE gets their money from students fees (and possibly your taxes) already. Many let students come to game for "free" in exchange for mandatory purchase of season tickets included in their fees. At THE the TV contracts, advertisers, merchandise licenses and many boosters (often grads from other Ohio schools) will make sure the football program is ok. The problem will be the "Olympic" sports that are mainly support by the football program (again the only place in Ohio where this happens).

I saw Huron’s football team out practicing at their field next to the stadium this week. There sure wasn’t any “social distancing” going on. Are any other programs practicing or is it just Huron?

Per guidelines. No more than one player can touch a football unless it is disinfected first. Which means no Center snapping it to a QB, no QB handing off to a RB and no QB passing to a receiver. No more than 10 players working out in a group. Players and coaches temps to be taken before practice. Players to change and shower at home.

We've been hearing more and more about teams across the state beginning workouts and being out on fields doing something. It may have just taken a little time for teams to get the word out and organize a plan to be productive while also following the suggested contact limits.
