And you know the exact date the position was excepted, not announced, 40 years ago? I've heard the story told more than once in person. Listen to Jake Furr's "Jake's Take episode 6". Then tell Joe he was untruthful.

Things seemed to work out fairly well for both Joe and Fort Loramie.
So when is Ontario going to name their new head coach?

May 11 Andy Slaughter will be board approved and named the next basketball coach at Ontario High School.

Andy Slaughter had two other stops: Two years at Crooksville (19-28) Two years at Sidney (26-22) Then four season at Cambridge (40-51) Total (87-101) That's a bold prediction Cotton, let's see how that plays out.

Watch out for Jamie Pearson at MH. Good hire if it goes through. as I was saying, hell of a hire. Harding won a MOAC title in 2017, they should be pretty good going forward with Pearson at the helm. Some talent coming up.

Some talent coming up. Outstanding hire for MH! He has had successful seasons at Granville, Dublin Jerome and Centennial. The MOAC will find out real quick who he is. Congrats to Jamie and his family.

Tim Mergel is official as the next head coach at Ontario. Tim Mergel with a career record of 79-129 replaces Hall of Fame coach Joe Balogh. There must be a attraction from Madison to Ontario. Only a few years ago Madison's AD, Doug Rickert applied for the AD at Ontario and was not hired. So we can think the search will begin soon for the replacement at Madison. Important months coming. Will they go in-house or opt to go outside?

"Passed over"? AD as head basketball coach, there are advantages for both at Ontario. Another Madison/Ontario scenario. When Bartlett left Madison Joe applied for the job. Ontario was DIII and Madison was DI at that time and a potential move for a young upward mobile head coach. He was offered the job, but decided staying at Ontario was best for him and his family. The rest is history.
Bartlett with around a .500 record at Madison took the head job at Keystone also a smaller school and a better destination for his family and basketball player son.

I saw in the News Journal article that Schnittke will be staying on as an assistant. Henige will also be around to help with the transition. I like that! Sounds like he’s not just going to come in and start completely doing things his own way. Seemed very humble and understanding of the task at hand. I like the hire! Seems good for the culture!

That program is a mess unfortunately. They haven’t been able to keep a viable coach and there’s no feeder system in place. Until someone comes in and straightens that out, I fear they will continue to struggle.

Tim Mergel will be Ontario's High School Student Services Coordinator. Don’t you mean “Hall Monitor”? Not bad for 70k.

"Hall Monitor" is what you get when you hire a coach that can only win 37% of his games. If he can win 11 games in his first season he gets bumped up to Corridor Supervisor.
