All of Ontario basketball teams, 7th grade and up are on hold due to being contact traced. The very good elementary program was halted due THE virus. Couple that with missed in class learning. I can't fathom the effects to their generation's minds and bodies and the stress brought upon their parents. AND IMO a lot of what has been done to them is unfounded the more we learn about school aged kids and THE virus. The mental challenges these kids face are heartbreaking. Every day it’s ‘walking on glass’ hoping you don’t get Covid or aren’t contact traced. A lot of kids have just quit playing sports/activities/etc. just because it’s a lot of work/practice time to see seasons shortened or cancelled. All with scientific evidence that younger adults/teenagers are least susceptible. I’m fortunate enough that my sons still have the drive to play sports, but if the contract tracing/quarantine doesn’t end soon, I’m fearful we will see a lot more kids quit

That's WITH the vaccine. We were told it is because even though you probably won't get sick or be affected, you would then be a carrier, passing it on to others. Think what all this does not only to kids, but to the economy as a whole....

The question is, what is the fear for? This is not a deadly virus.

Only to those individuals that don't care enough to get the vaccine. THUS give THE virus to them so they can do their part by increasing herd immunity

This is not a deadly virus. the fear is another 14-day quarantine, team being shut down, games being cancelled I suppose being a little clearer in my question is needed. The question is, what are some afraid will happen if we do nothing? The remedy for our kids when they test positive is to go home and make everyone else safe.

With this ugly abnormal year when a team never knows when they might get hit with their next 2 week shut down, due to being close contact traced by another team. Might teams like Shelby, CC and others in Ohio who are primed for a long tourney run cancel their regular season games the 2 weeks leading up to the tournament to assure themselves of not being knocked out of the tournament without playing a game?
I know there are plans in place to be able to reschedule tournament games due to weather, but what if a team can't play due to a virus issue?

Mount Gilead 63 Galion 47
If Galion loses to Madison on Tuesday they will tie the longest losing streak in program history (25 games). They play Mansfield St. Peter's on 2/6 and Bucyrus on 2/9 so hopefully they're able to win at least one of those.

Galion has had 24 losing seasons in the last 34 years(since going to 4 div) under 9 different coaches. So it could be discussed this is simply normal.

Some of us can't change what is and was happening (for years and years as you so diligently pointed out) and if we want to complain about it (and simultaneously lament the fact that we stink) then we have every right on God's green earth to express total frustration. Laugh away ! It sucks to be "us" and it must be riotous for those, such as yourself, to see a program struggle and suffer. Oh, to be so very high and righteous !

Unfortunately they are very much in the same situation Willard Football is in among other programs at other schools all around the area. Galion has had a hard time finding the “right” coach among other things. They have no feeder program to teach the sport to the kids when they are in elementary school. This problem plagues the girls basketball program as well. It’s not that they don’t have the athletes as evidenced by the competitiveness of many of the other sports programs. It’s also worth noting that one coach was ran off because he hurt some feelings by being brash. When this coach was hired it was done out of convenience more so than anything. Simply put, he had experience coaching at the varsity level and was already employed by the district. In fact I believe the other two serious candidates withdrew. My guess is he’s gone after the season is over and they will struggle to find a replacement. It’s a sad situation all around.

If you are not a parent, player or coach then you are on the outside with the rest of us.

Ontario 76, River Valley 64, for their 2nd win over RV this year. Shaver with 25 for Ontario, Johnson 20 and Bell 18 for RV. Close game through three quarters until early in the 4th when a Technical was called on Johnson, then the game went sideways for RV.
Ontario won the JV game 63-47, after being down 10 in the 3rd. Warriors also won the Freshman contest.

I think the biggest thing with Galion, they have to learn to play as a team again. The last three years Galion had one guy that can score consistanly. Once they can learn to play as a team then they can win the games they should win and then complete with the top of the MOAC.
