This isn’t a surprise at all. Every time Terry Pluto has been asked about this, he said the Indians name would remain in 2021 and that a new name would be in place in time for 2022.

It's more disturbing that they lose every good player that they develop. Who gives a crap about losing a nickname?

I've been a dedicated, lifelong Indians fan. Stuck with my Tribe through long, desolate years and years of great joy. This organization bowing to the PC crowd is all I can handle. I can possibly understand where some people can contrive Chief Wahoo as somehow offensive, but Indians? The American Indian is somehow, offensive??? These people have completely lost their minds. I'm done with this organization, finished, nada! I guess I'm done with MLB in general.

Indian Motorcycle, owned by Polaris Corporation, will have to change it's long, historic namesake. Oh, and let's not forget Indian Lake in Ohio and the hundreds of lakes across America, named after Indian Tribes. The PC police are gaining momentum and feeling the power.

Fostoria Board of Education has privately, made the executive decision to erase the Redmen namesake. The new nickname will be Fostoria Red. The stadium has been recently painted and the new reference is already in place. I would imagine Bucyrus, Bellevue, Arcadia, Hopewell-Louden, Tiffin Calvert, Lakota, Mohawk and dozens of others with any reference to Indian heritage, will be scrambling to please the PC police. Fremont Ross 'Little Giants' needs to go. Don't want to be offending short people, do we?

That's what some Sandusky fans call them, anyways.

Also 10s of thousands of cities and counties in the country that are named after Indian tribes. In this area alone to name just a few. Delaware, Mohawk, Seneca and Ontario.

Keep it generic. Can't be specific, four of the five are derivations of Indian names.

How about just the Cleveland "Tribe". ( a noun already commonly used by Cleveland fans and others )
According to Mirriam-Webster:
Definition of tribe 1a: a social group comprising numerous families, clans, or generations together with slaves, dependents, or adopted strangers b: a political division of the Roman people originally representing one of the three original tribes of ancient Rome c: PHYLE
2: a group of persons having a common character, occupation, or interest
3: a category of taxonomic classification ranking below a subfamily also : a natural group irrespective of taxonomic rank the cat tribe the rose tribe
I think that #2 would be the most appropriate in the Cleveland baseball team's and fan's case.
Surely, none of the American Indian groups can lay any exclusive claim to the use of the noun "tribe" to describe themselves under any of the definitions above.

I think they’ve ruled out Tribe already. Hadn't heard that. Apparently done without consulting a dictionary. Oh well, my days of packing my Tribe into the van and heading up 71 to watch the Indians came to an end when they kicked Chief Wahoo to the curb. Not very respectful of them.

So Chief Wahoo was your primary source of entertainment at the game? I find that unlikely. More likely in your decision was the increase in cost combined with the decrease in performance.

Actually when I took my Tribe to the Indian games when my children were small, seeing Chief Wahoo was one of the moments that they were the most excited about. My decision was to stop supporting, whenever possible, corporations that have supported and caved to the P.C. crowd and Cancel Culture.

Be careful, there will be those in galion's camp that will insinuate your kids were racist for being excited to see Chief Wahoo.

Perhaps I'm not as old as you but in the 20 or so years that I've been taking my kids to Indians games never once have I seen a Chief Wahoo mascot. I've only only ever seen it as a logo.
