The Indians traded Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco to the Mets in exchange for Andres Gimenez, Amed Rosario, Josh Wolf, and Isiah Greene. Rosario has been the Mets primary shortstop for the last 4 seasons and hit .268 during that time. Gimenez broke in the bigs last season hit .263 in 49 games in 2020. He is also a middle infielder. Wolf is a right handed starting pitcher who is 20. Greene is a 19 year old outfield prospect.

Thoughts on the upcoming season. my thought is any deal for Lindor should have included a legit MLB OF, which if we had done, would give us (1) legit MLB OF

I thought they should of asked for Nimmo instead of rosario or gimenez

They might have and the Mets said no.
This is a typical Cleveland trade when they have to trade a star. Getting a couple of players that can contribute and several prospects in hopes of hitting the jackpot in a few years.

I thought they should of asked for Nimmo instead of rosario or gimenez that actually makes a lot more sense than acquiring (2) replacement level SS in an organization that is loaded with replacement level SS prospects\ i didn't expect a lot of MLB ready talent in return (they have a BUNCH of guys in their loaded system that have to be put on the 40-man next year) but damn you don't even get a legit OF? this was pure salary dump Tribe payroll for next year sits at like $40 million rofl. They are slashing payroll to re-brand and MOVE.

AND the other teams knew Cleveland needed outfielders and they knew Lindor was on his way out and they knew they have financial issues. They were not in a strong negotiating position

AND the other teams knew Cleveland needed outfielders and they knew Lindor was on his way out and they knew they have financial issues. They were not in a strong negotiating position agreed but the Mariners got Kelenic from NYM for (LOLZ!) Robbie Cano and Edwin Diaz Tribe FO aren't idiots but my honest opinion is this deal is beyond underwhelming, if we were gonna ship off Lindor for a replacement level starting SS we could have certainly also gotten a better prospect in return. That's why this was a pure salary dump imho. Remember, not only did they get Lindor but Cookie, who had a fantastic year last year and has been a top-20 SP for half a decade now. (2) all star caliber players for a broken prospect, a replacement level SS, and (2) long shot/developmental pieces? Meh.

You already said it. It's a salary dump. I wouldn't be shocked to see Francona leave before long. With his health issues and at his age I don't see why he would weather what's turning into a full scale sell off.

it's a salary dump not a sell-off, i just wish we would have gotten a decent OF for it

What is your definition of "decent OF"?

Post by DrTorch on Jan 9, 2021 17:04:43 GMT -5
a win or two above replacement level

By using that criteria no wonder no one was willing to trade an out fielder to Cleveland

Oscar Mercado was a 2.2 WAR player in 2019. We didn't have to pay him a ton of money or trade Lindor for him. I'm not asking for prime Fred Lynn here.

In it's simplest form. Outside of Cano, the Mets outfield was the strength of their line up last year. Now that Cano is suspended for the 2021 season Lindor was needed for them not to have a worse season, trading an outfielder would assure that. And the Mets have no assurances Lindor will sign with them, instead of going the free agent route. You know Lindor will want Cano money. Will the Mets pay Lindor $25 million?

Nimmo would be the logical guy but the Mets ain't the only team in the league. It shouldn't be a big ask to get an OF in a trade for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco that would improve our OF depth chart, which is hot garbage.

If Lindor would have had a better year in 2020 we might have got more in return.

Correct. The Mets can afford to pay Lindor. The real question is will he want to play long term in New York? He indicated earlier that he did not.

Apparently he was asked about New York a year or so ago and he said he didn’t want to play there. If the Mets show him the money, he may well change his mind.

I would guess that he'd prefer a warmer climate but if his goal is really to be the highest paid player in baseball he may have to compromise on that.

I read it in a Terry Pluto article from Wednesday titled: Any trade involving Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco is painful: Terry Pluto’s Scribbles.
The quote was: 11. The Mets wanted Carrasco not only as a member of their rotation, but also because he is under a multi-year deal. They didn’t want to trade four promising players and have Lindor leave after a year. Carrasco gives them some long-term protection, something to show in case Lindor leaves New York. I had heard Lindor didn’t want to play in New York. That was in spring training. Who knows where things stand now.

I just copied those parts because I’m not sure how to copy the actual link. It was one of Terry’s 2 articles about the trade posted on Facebook.
