I want to take a second and express my gratitude for being a league with a bunch cool guys that know how to have some fun while taking the league seriously. I was given a shock to my system today when in another league, I was accused of breaking a rule, a stupid rule at that. Thinking the accusation was in a private message, my retort was a little sarcastic pointing out the player in question was not on my roster and then asking who made the accuser "the tranny police?". For my insolence I received a "**** off" & a "cocksucker" and further "*******" & "pussy". A real joy for a the 1st saturday of the season.
So when bust each others balls about whatever the topic of the day, its nice to know its all in good fun. Hope you remember this when I post the preseason prediction column.
Thanks again

Now that I have had time to really digest all the comments I now realize what TESLA was referring to about having players that are on MLB rosters but MINOR eligible. This stems from the original rule stating minor eligibility is granted if MLB service time is < 2.0 years. Since we used service time as calculated on baseball reference, a players time was updated yearly by that site and SOUTH would apply it to our rosters for mandatory callups, etc. At no point that I can recall, did we make minor eligible players ineligible for active rosters, therefore, we have always had minor eligible players on our active rosters even if they were in the actual minors. Now bring it forward to fantrax, the software does not allow us the ability to determine eligibility by our previous rule of < 2.0 years of service time. We selected career AB & IP limits to "get us close" to what 2 years of service time looked like under prior to the platform change. Fantrax has 3 basic minor eligibility setups: - None - which means any player can be put in a minors slots
- Simple - only real minor league players are allowed in minors slots
- Advanced - whereas we can use different metrics such as AB, IP, GP, or age
My opinion is whatever we do, is to have the site do most of the heavy lifting. If eligibility limits need adjusted, lets figure out where we want them to go.
I hear the argument against "stashing" MLB players on the minor rosters...personally I think we have all done that to some degree and a key way to build our teams. I speak for myself and have pondered when to call up that big prospect. 2019 is my last best example for myself, to I call up Pete Alonso on day 1 because he made the MLB roster or do I hold him back. Because if I call him up and he struggles, I only have the 1 demotion and reduce my roster flexibility and increase my risk of losing him or another valuable asset the next year because our mandatory cut down to 15.
I want the most opportunities to decide the fate of my assets whether they are on our active roster or minor rosters. Yes let the site do the work. Is there a way to remove minor status from players in active lineup? For example edman biggio Walker should no longer be eligible to be put in my minors because they have been on my active roster. Fantrax has that option but it is in direct contradiction of how we have determined eligibility from the outset of the league.

the thing we want to avoid is bouncing a guy between the minors and active rosters without transactions and/or without said player hitting the waiver wire so that basically the minors become a bench for your active roster
if the site hits you with a transaction for signing a guy directly to your minors roster (even if you drop a guy who is on your minors roster) then so be it
if the site lets you demote a guy from your active roster to your minors roster then that is something we need to fix either by a gentlemen's agreement to stick to your (1) existing demotion a year or by changing a setting that might not exist
stashing a mlb player on a minors roster is something that is sort of intended because it mimics the current MLB structure

i think the nuance between owners electing to use minors roster slots for long term players who might be superstars OR players who have a lower ceiling but might be more likely to contribute NOW is one of the subtle aspects of the league that is important and kind of fascinating and definitely a lot of fun to dig

Sithbucknut77’s Annual NOSF Dynasty League Predictions - 2021 Edition
Welcome back to NCOAST Dynasty League’s 7th season in the 8th year!
Our long national nightmare is finally over. No, I’m not talking about Covid, I am referring to PRONKx Sox’s average draft time! But seriously thank god that draft is over.
This year will officially consummate the transfer over league play for ESuxPN to Fantrax. Gone is the hassle of checking Google Docs for owned players and new hassles we don’t even know yet! It may look different but I think the league is primed for another great season. Will REDS pull off the 1st repeat? Does it count since Covid won last year? Do we crown a 1st time winner? Is this the year CEO doesn’t make the post season? Let’s see what the old prognosticator machine spits out!
The following SITH predictions are calculated after thousands of simulations based off team rosters directly after the completion of the draft. Current predictions to take into account the vast range of managerial skills, or lack thereof, within the league. Now for your reading pleasure this year’s NOSF dynasty league projections, where all projections are 100% correct 50% of the time.
BROW – Last time we played, BROW had by most accounts completed a quick and rather successful rebuild. But does he have the horses for sustained success? I think he does with a good blend of young and older players. If there is a gap, it is in the minor league roster with only a few high end prospects.
Quad County Confluence – This roster reminds me of the old roto strategy of “stars & scrubs” approach, with the elite talent of Trout and 2 legitimate Cy Young contenders in Burnes & Giolito. Every year the “No Trout fishing” sign is up, but I’m not so sure the ban should remain in place. If BELL can make a couple savvy moves with the ascending Witt, BELL could be primed for a quick turnaround.
CEO – Whoever said dynasties were good for sports? Well I think some new blood in the post season would be good and it looks like CEO is primed for a step back. That step back will be accelerated, not by dead prospects, but an improving WORLD division.
North Linden Militia – This this year’s Jekyll & Hyde team in my esteemed opinion. The projection models don’t line up with the names on the back of the jerseys. DRT arguably has 6 or 7 players that are top 10 or better at their positions. Yet the lack of depth has his counting stats lagging behind. In 2019, I stated DRT had possibly the best minors roster in the entire league, 2 years later I don’t see any reason to change that ranking. There are loads of high prospects coming and coming soon.
REDS – REDS is close to turning into a juggernaut. Filled to the brim with young outfielders that he could use to fill any hole that may come up. It certainly helps that REDS sits atop the weaker of the 2 divisions.
Mr. Kate Upton – New Year, same SITH... Strong hitting, possibly not enough pitching. SITH has been working to bring up young upside arms and he needs a few to hit to take the next step before the batters get too old and a complete tear down is needed.
PRONKx SOX – Sigh….maybe change the team name? I think it’s either cursed or the OG pronk in disguise. But seriously, I think I can see an improved roster. Not win the division good, but competitive. SOX still have the oldest roster in the league which…wait a sec… of course Wainwright put him over the top. While the offense is respectable, the pitching is lagging just bit with depth behind Bieber, Lynn, & Gallen. If SOX can mine some good pitching he can take another step forward.
The CheatStros – aka King of the Middle Infielder. I’m pretty sure I look at STROS and think “How has he not won a title?” With the 2nd oldest team in the league the window I think he is in could be closing. Still with elite talent on both sides of the ball he will be tough to stop on offense plus a good pitching staff led by deGrom has STROS as a strong contender.
TESL – TESLA seems to another team in the same purgatory several teams are in, good enough to play .500 ball but not much better or worse or that. Pitching will have to carry the load this year as there is plenty of injury risk on the offensive side of the game.
The Baseball Team – TIG has that ho hum worker like roster, doesn’t really wow you anywhere but should be competitive most weeks. The real key for TIG to push past the .500 mark is to make some savvy moves that match up well with some high end prospects make the majors.
A new feature this year will be a “Baseball America” type minors organizational rankings and depending on how it’s received it could be reoccurring feature.
1. North Linden Militia – 5 possible future all-stars rostered
2. Mr. Kate Upton – Flush with probable above average MLB players
3. CEO – The top end prospects are really carrying this ranking
4. BROW – A typical BROW roster with a good mix of players that can help now & later
5. The Baseball Team – Uber talent at the top but the backend needs built up
6. PRONKx SOX – Tied for the oldest minor roster with not a lot of upside
7. Quad County Confluence – 1 elite prospect that will make an impact soon
8. REDS – A couple upside guys then some filler
9. TESL – A few good arms if they stay healthy but plenty of room to add
10. The CheatStros – more middle infielders but injuries and demotions keeping him down.
And now the presentation of the predicted standings and postseason participants!
World Ohio
The CheatStros 192-48 REDS 174-66
TESL 117-123 BROW 132-108
CEO 115-125 Mr. Kate Upton 114-126
North Linden Militia 114-126 Quad County Confluence 87-153
PRONKx SOX 76-164 The Baseball Team 79-161
Playoffs
The CheatStros(1) over TESL(4)
BROW(3) over REDS(2)
Championship
The CheatStros over BROW
Goodluck to everyone and have a great and healthy season!

Nice. Always a bit of anticipation for the preseason predictions. I like the Minors Rankings. Its amazing sometimes how deep my minors knowledge is due to this league, and this league alone. However, for as good as my Minors may or may not be, the truth is, I've only had two players reach my Active Squad through my minors, Ohtani and Moncada.
CEO – Whoever said dynasties were good for sports? Well I think some new blood in the post season would be good and it looks like CEO is primed for a step back. That step back will be accelerated, not by dead prospects, but an improving WORLD division.
minors organizational rankings 3. CEO – The top end prospects are really carrying this ranking
No rebuilding here, only death and reloading

Couple things here that I came across while adding a player this morning. I wanted to add Yermin Mercedes to my minors. When you go to add a minors eligible player, it gives you three options: ACTIVE, RESERVE, MINORS. By default it seemed to be set to RESERVE. The concern there is that people unintentionally add a Minors player to their Active Roster. I added Mercedes to my Reserve slot. 1. It put me over roster limit with 26 Active players. I got no notifications or messages saying so. 2. I was able to freely move Mercedes to my Minors roster. Brings us back to previous discussion. how can we monitor the "One demotion per year" rule?[/a]

I think the only question left is if we want to allow a player be added to an owner's minors roster who is currently in the MLB. If so, I think we are stuck with the "honor" system or spreadsheets. If not, we can just continue to enable ineligible minors to stay on minors rosters once there, and then that allows all the mechanisms people have said they liked: deciding when to promote. We can then have the 1 demotion for sending a currently MLB player to the minors roster, free demotions of players in the MiLB and during the off-season we can check baseball reference for forced promotions as we've done in the past.
BTW, has anyone figured out how to see Earned Runs in addition to ERA? ERA hurts my brain as a single game stat to track how well my P has done. I like it as the category scoring stat though, just want to see how many earned runs are coughed up.

Personally I would like to keep the ability to allow players that are on MLB rosters AND fit our AB/IP requirements to be added to minor rosters. Click on the players name, then stats. That will show everything including earned runs given up.

[/a] [/quote] This is now corrected. There was an option not checked causing minor players not to be counted against roster limits. I was going to try and show it like SOUTH but I'm not smart enough to figure it out. It's also why the transaction history shows me adding and dropping some nobody to test the system.

There were some things that were annoying me that I just fixed by resetting some defaults in team settings - general.
For example, the default stat period was for YTD and you had to click the drop down any time you wanted to change it to the current days scoring period. I now have that reversed.
I was also able to turn on automatic lineup changes to speed that process up (were you don't have to hit submit, it just submits it as soon as you click on the spot you want a player to go)
Theres a bunch of stuff in there you can tweak about how your team lineup, players list (FA), live scoring pages etc. are presented. You can even tweak the little red, orange and gray graffics about player news to custom timefranes (default is 24 hrs, 7 days 30 days)

@bell-That helped quite a bit. Sure enough, I was just too stupid to figure it out. Thats what 4 years in Humboldt County will do to you......TESL knows this.
I propse that for next year we discuss either adding a MI slot or changing our CI slot to just an INF slot. When we started the league, 1B and 3B seemed to be pretty loaded with 2B and SS being sort of thin. Seems that nowadays, good 1B are harder to find and quality MIs seem loaded. Just something to think about. If I had to choose, I'd probably lean towards changing the CI to and INF slot and not adding a new ACTIVE starting slot.

In the spirit of transparency, the league page shows that some league rules were changed. SOUTH found another glitch in the matrix that allowed him to add a player to his active roster without dropping a player thus putting him at 26 active players(max 25). The system allowed this because he is only carrying 13 minors, which gave him a total of less than 40 players. The system was set for a roster of 40(25 active;15 minor) plus an option to "count" minor players against the roster limit of 40. Which if you recall, we just changed earlier this week after SOUTH discovered an issue adding to his minors. Well after some tinkering, we think we have solved it going forward. The settings are now a total roster size of 25(active), 15 minors and those minors don't count towards roster limits.
In short please double check your rosters. We think everything is correct but it doesn't hurt to be safe.

If we added a MI, it would add value to 2B/SS, but would be less of a hit in value for 1B/3B. I think STRO might benefit the most from a move like that but in the interest of transparency, I'm probably

Lack of positional eligibility is killing me this week(combined with poor management). McMahon with 5HRs this week....all 5 on my bench. Doesn't help that both Stanton and Ohtani are UT only.
Hopefully by about week 3 my team gets sorted out.
