Did you ever think you would see the day that Mansfield Senior would finish last in basketball in any league they ever would ever play in? Not in my lifetime. TYgers finished last in 74-75 and 78-79 although tied for last with Lorain Senior and Sandusky 74-75. Mansfield Senior struggled in Boys Basketball from 74-75 to 78-79(5 years) plus 81-82 school year. Coupled with very poor showing in Football, TYgers had to get out, and did from the competitive Buckeye Made the announcement on Jan 1979 when Football completed 0-10 season and 4-15/2-12 Boys Basketball. However, were defending Class AAA Boys Track and Field State Champions Sometimes I wonder if a lot of it comes down to who can get the kids to come out? When the football playoffs moved to Stark County the guys in my car were blown away by the size of Mansfield at night while on Rt 30. I told them that the right coach could recruit the halls and get a Top Three 4x100m relay every year. I see the same thing at Lima Senior, while they've always been a basketball power if the right guy came along they would be hell on wheels in football and track too. It's hard to believe that the bloodlines have thinned that much in Mansfield.

New Philadelphia would win basketball and football title this year. Also those who want Dover into the OCC they are even better In my opinion, the addition of New Philly and potentially Dover will be the beginning of the end for the current OCC.

Those New Philly trips will get old and fast. Ontario or Shelby would be better fits for the OCC then New Philly.

Ontario or Shelby would be better fits for the OCC then New Philly. Other than West Holmes, New Philly has over an hour bus ride to every league contest on their schedule, and most of them will be during the week after 6pm. Ontario and Shelby both had opportunities to join the OCC.

Ontario or Shelby would be better fits for the OCC then New Philly. THE PROBLEM.....Shelby and Ontario are in an 8 school league. Both could not go to the OCC, there was only one opening. Galion, Ontario and Shelby worked to help put together a league that all 3 could be in. Lex tried to get in the MOAC to be with those 3 schools. Dude will tell you that Lex wasn't really interested, they were just afraid that Senior, Madison and Ashland were going to join the SBC.

You are a liar. In past posts Dude has said that lex was looking to get into the MOAC when the addition of New Phil was getting close. He said the school even submitted a letter to the moac asking for interest.

Everyone knows that Lexington sent a letter to the MOAC asking to be considered. I would think that everyone would also know that this meant Lexington was very interested in being considered for the MOAC. Madison was the only school that had been in serious talks with the SBC. Mansfield would have likely followed if the OCC would have folded but Ashland was talking of going East and petitioning a request to switch away from the NWAD. Shelby and Ontario both were looking for leagues over the last 10 years and Shelby was very close to the OCC, Ontario never was. I spoke with 2 of Ontario's money sport head coaches during the time of these talks and both said they had no desire to be in a league with Mansfield Senior.

Mt Vernon beats Lexington tonight. Ashland has won the OCC by default. They can win it outright with a win this weekend vs. Mansfield Sr. If they lose, it will be a 4 way tie at 7-5.

Congrats to Ashland to winning the title, especially with not much bench and a key injury late in the year. Goes to show you how talented Denbow is and how important a great scoring PG can be in high school basketball. Maybe one of the weirdest years I can remember while following a league race. 5 teams in contention in the final couple weeks while the preseason favorite by most sat in the cellar.

Stat of the year. Ashlands Luke Denbow connected on 26 free throws in last nights game. That ties him for the 6th most free throws in a game in Ohio High school history. He attempted 30. I didn’t see the game, but that’s a lot of free throws for a whole team let alone one player.
