Ok back to the actual topic. Is New London having a team or not? First scrimmages are this weekend It looks like no 11-man football for New London. The Wildcats might play 8-man.

The FC AD’s should contact the BVC AD’s and set something up for replacement games. BVC is in the same boat with Vanlue

This is just a bad look on all that’s in charge at New London. Don’t they have about 40 boys in each class which is a total of 120 in the top 3 grades and couldn’t even pull at least 20. I’d be a little upset if I were the other schools on their schedule.

And New London certainly hasn’t had more success. So why no football? Can’t blame XC. MG is almost exactly the same size.

We forget that football, in order to be thriving at small schools, is heavily reliant on big groups of kids coming together and sticking together. When programs have to resort to half-line practices, that’s a big symbol of impending doom to the team (which can only get averted by more participation.) The only shock here is everyone thinks a school NL’s size has more time to turn it around before 8-man becomes necessary.

The best two seasons I can find for New London in the last ten years is back to back 6 win seasons in 2012 and 2013. In the last 5 years though it wasn’t very good.

I guess they will be saving from gas in the busses and paying a driver for each bus. Won’t have to pay the coaches that get paid either.

The Firelands Conference needs to hold them to a 2-year hiatus for league play. Seven seniors out of 13 kids? No way does it change enough for next year.

Any idea how long a leash New London would have from the other schools if they continue to not have football as far as a permanent replacement. If they decide in January to go a 2nd year without football I’d think some discussion would have to start then amongst the other schools.

I hope this won’t be a SMCC situation next year where they say yes we will have 11 man and then change their mind a month before the season starts. I did read the story in the reflector and it says there’s a total of 24 in the middle school grades that are currently playing. Here is the problem and as we all know you lose some of those kids by the time sophomore year comes around.

Seems weird that every thing I have read about this, not a single quote from the Coach? Where is the coach in all of this. Part of his job is to help get kids excited to play. Seems like this program is a sinking ship.

I also seen in the story where it says New London has the 3rd biggest enrollment in the FC with 124 boys in the top 3 grades. There is 15 in cross country and 13 in football so what is all the other boys in that school doing? I know there is band but still that leaves a lot of kids and I know they all aren’t going to be into sports too.
I can’t believe there isn’t one coach to take the lead on getting kids interested and at least try and turn this ship around. In the story I read that they’ve already secured some games for 8 man football which means some were already getting to work on this for a while. I just don’t understand when they had all summer to do something to get enough kids interested and did nothing.

I just don’t understand when they had all summer to do something to get enough kids interested and did nothing. Football is a sport a kid WANTS to play or forget it. Good teammates and coaches who embrace the team concept are the key, if there is one, to build a program. Kids that are forced to play are usually not useful to a team - gotta want it.

How old would Rocky be now?
No 11 man football and no coach. This really is starting over at day 1 for New London. They can either build it right or do permanent damage.
Anyone know if Vanlue has canceled their season?

Maybe it's time for the community to attend some BOE meetings and ask some difficult questions to the hierarchy of the NL school district. Seems to be a deeper rooted problem than the HCs that are constantly getting their names ran through the mud.

It really is the only reasonable solution to this problem. What makes anyone think Rock would want to come back? As far as I know, he's happy doing boat stuff and enjoying retirement. I do agree that some questions need to be asked about what's transpired and what the plan is for the future. It's hard for me to fathom New London not being able to field an 11-man football team.

I'd guess Rock's effective style wouldn't go well with today's kids and parents.
