If they only had 13 kids out for "11-man" to make the decision to go to 8-man that much easier, are we really sure that 8-man is even possible? I heard it's already down to 11 from 13. Are they even going to have a football team?

I thought the same thing. There isn’t even enough to safely do 8 man football at this point and you just let the head coach go but I do realize someone can step in for the time being. At this point I think they need to save everyone’s time and get ready for basketball.

Discussion on Yappi states that NL is not leaving the FC and that they plan to be back to 11-man ball in '22. However, that doesn't mean the league won't leave them.

Of course New London isn’t going to leave the FC. Where else would they go?

Right now New London needs the FC. I just wonder what their fate will be if they can’t put together a team in 2022. They now have a full year to make this work so we shall see what they do with that time.

It's hard to believe if only 11 kids want to play this season that they will have enough for 2022. Eve if freshman numbers are good they are still freshman. UNLESS, the resignation of the head coach brings more kids out.

The Ashland paper today said the New London Coach Keys resigned yesterday after practice. Not much of a surprise.

I’m surprised he was still the coach at that point. After the meeting last week determined no football I would’ve gave him two choices right there. Step down or be fired.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I assume they will name an interim coach for the rest of the year. Does anyone know if they have done this yet? If they’re going to continue forward with football they need to hire Jim Houghtlen, and then they need to support him with assistant coaches inside the building. He’s a grad, he’s been coaching forever, including many years at NL, and he’s probably one of the only highly qualified candidates that would look past their terrible facilities. They probably won’t do that though because they never seem to be able to make the right decisions for themselves. They lost Dane Held from the basketball program because they couldn’t find a teaching job for him. He was a grad and both of his parents were teachers in the district. How do you mess that up? Have they even found a new basketball coach yet? Hell, they’ll be lucky to have an athletic program at all at the rate they’re going. I’m really hoping someone there will make some really good decisions and save this program!

You think this is bad? Just read somewhere else that Vanlue has 11 kids out for football and they are moving ahead with 11 man football. Endangering kids by adults at its finest. Just idiotic

I don't have a link but I did talk with a school employee this morning and Vanlue is indeed going ahead with football this fall.

Talking to someone that was there and watched the first scrimmage their line has not looked good. Might be a rough season if they can’t get it figured out

On the Vanlue Facebook page they are now encouraging kids to play football because it’s hard and will teach life lessons. That was followed up with the reply of play football or Vanlue schools will close and they can’t have that in their life.

I think they’ve come to that point in life where they have to realize it’s probably best for everyone to move on. The writing is on the wall that school is hanging on by a string at this point.

Have to say that I really like what the HC at South Central is doing with that program.( Can't spell his name, or I would). While they may not finish in the top tier, I feel that he puts them in position to be a legit threat each game. They coach their QBs very well and can put points on the board against anyone. Congrats on the win vs. Willard!
