Shelby 65 Lexington 61
North Union 70 Pleasant 53 *N Union led 58-24 after three quarters.

MOAC is now 4-13 vs. non-conference opponents. When do the MOAC teams start playing the smaller KMAC schools so they can get some non-conference wins? 😂

We were supposed to open with Pleasant but it got bumped back. I assume due to our very late coaching change. But I think that's the only MOAC team we see this year.

Galion - plays Northmor and Mt. Gilead ClearFork - plays Northmor and Fredericktown Highland - beat Frederickdown, plays Centerburg, Danville, and Northmor Pleasant - lost to Northmor, plays Mt. Gilead, Cardington, and Centerburg River Valley - plays Mt. Gilead, Northmor, and Centerburg
Ontario, Shelby, and Marion Harding play no KMAC schools. Division III Pleasant playing similar sized KMAC schools. Highland is playing teams local rivals and schools it was in a league with Northmor plays 5 of the 8 MOAC schools.

I would add River Valley to the Ontario, Shelby and Harding. Northmor also plays Colonel Crawford, Lucas, and North Union in non-conference games. The Knights have put together a challenging non-league schedule. I am impressed.

Not sure about the reasoning behind this post. So let me add. Harding is DI, Pleasant is DIII, all other MOAC schools are DII As we all know Ontario is in Richland county. This year they also play schools from the counties of Marion, Crawford, Morrow, Wyandot, Ashland, Huron, Erie, and Sandusky. Which is down 2 from Hardin and Wooster.

In principal I would agree with you, they should be on the same list with Shelby, Ontario and Harding.

After making the off-handed comment I actually loooked at the schedules. That was the reasoning for the post

IMO MOAC is a WEEK Discussing non-league, I support rival games but the basketball area that covers the SBC, OCC, MOAC, KMAC, Firelands, N10 and Mid Buckeye offers a wide range of D1,D2,D3 and D4 schools. It is possible to put together a solid non-league schedule that includes schools similar to your size.

Round 2 tonight of the 6 games between Marion, R Valley, and Shelby that should decide the MOAC title. 1st Round: Shelby won at Harding 64-61 R Valley at Marion Harding tonight. R Valley at Shelby on 12/21. Maybe one of the other five teams can pull off an upset but these six games are important.

This league 4-8 is something else.
Ontario is going to finish in the top half of this league.
They would not finish in the top half of the OCC, Lake or Bay obviously. I don't think they would finish in the top half of the RIVER (Calvert, Old Fort, NR, Gibsonburg, Hopewell?) or N10 truthfully (CC, Carey, Upper, Mohawk).
I know we are a long ways from March, but Shelby beating Lex gives them validity as a top seed, but I'm curious to see what happens to Ontario's seeding if they come in around .500 for the draw vs teams with similar records in the OCC, Lake and Bay.
I could honestly see Ontario go 8-6 in league play and 0-8 in non-league play.

Shelby is off to a great start and I would put their starting five up against just about anyone. They play hard and get after it on the defensive end. They got into foul trouble at Lex but somehow Holloway and Bruskotter avoided their fifth fouls during the comeback to force OT. Not a terribly deep bench and still too many turnovers which should improve as the season goes on. Very unselfish team though. Always looking for the best shot. Two big games next week against RV and Granville.

Shelby's non-league schedule is good and most of it comes in the next month -- Granville, Wooster, Ashland, Mansfield Senior, Willard and Upper plus the already mentioned Lexington. That's when we will see how good Shelby really is -- or is it just a product of an incredibly weak MOAC this year?

I could honestly see Ontario go 8-6 in league play and 0-8 in non-league play. Ontario is young and very in experienced. Is there a team in the top half of the MOAC, the OCC, or SBC any division that has NO starters returning and only one letterman? Is there a team in the top half of the MOAC, the OCC or any SBC Division that lost their best player to a season ending injury in the first game? How many teams in the top half of the MOAC, the OCC or the SBC any division has a new coaching staff and are learning a completely different offense? Have any of those teams lost 3 starters off this years roster to transfers? That would be Ontario. If you've seen the improvement from game one of the season, you would not think Ontario would finish behind those River schools. They might have improved more in 6 games than anyone in the area. With that being said, Ontario will not have a .500 record this year, their non-league schedule is to difficult. 8-14 is hardly a .500 season. But 8 wins is WAY more than I thought possible. In the past Ontario got the seeds they have in a large part to winning games against everyone they were seeded above, as they play almost every team in the District.

I don't think we are that far off on our assessment. You've seen them more than me. We both agree that they aren't good, yet they will finish in the top half of the league. To me, it's more of an indictment on the league. You think they've improved, which they may have, but it also may be because their last two games are against teams that will likely go 0-22 and 2-20.
