Shelby shoots 25% from the field in the loss tonight. Wooster definitely better than their record indicates. They get after it on the defensive end of the floor. The poor shooting seems to be a common thread in our losses. Too many forced shots and not enough ball movement.

Our teams need to improve dramatically before tournament Shelby is 3-1 in the OCC and have the Willard loss. I don’t think it’s fair to lump them in with “the top four.” They are over .500 in non conference games and responsible for the majority of those 6 non conference wins.

I would agree if you were talking about the Shelby girls. They are dominating the MOAC. Shelby boys lost to R Valley and beat Marion in a close game. How can you separate Shelby from those two teams? They are all 6-1 in the same conference and have played the same opponents.

I can’t speak about the other teams’ out of conference schedule, but Shelby would be leading the OCC with their record beating both Lex and Ashland who sit on top of that conference (a bigger conference).

It's an imperfect Shelby team. A lot of minutes are played by sophomores. The shooting can be rather difficult to watch at times. All that aside, getting Marion Harding and River Valley at home in this second round robin is reason to feel confident. If both Hill and Bruskotter play well, it's hard to deny they could compete in a District Final game.

Huge difference in preparing for a couple non conference games and preparing for a better opponent every week. Congrats on going 3-1 against OCC teams but it means as much to winning the OCC as if you said the 4th place team in the OCC is winning the MOAC because they won a game against the Shelby.

I think Shelby going 3-1 against the OCC teams they have played can be submitted as moderate to good evidence that they can be the favorite to beat Marion Harding and River Valley at home in the upcoming weeks. The offensive centerpieces for this team cannot be relied on as steadily as last year's duo for Shelby, but I imagine the Shelby fanbase is comfortable with where we are sitting with the players we get to run out there - I know I am.

3-1 (Madison, Lex, Ashland - Wooster).
Lex and Ashland are the conference leaders. I’m not saying they would win the OCC. I’m saying lumping Shelby’s non conference wins/losses in with the top four in the MOAC and saying the MOAC is weak is not fair to Shelby. They are, by themselves, responsible for most of those MOAC non conference wins and they are against decent competition. It’s more accurate to lump the other three of those four MOAC teams together and leave Shelby out and it is a better representation of the MOAC’s non conference record.

If we want to talk about the strength of the conference, we must look at how all the teams perform. It is fair to Shelby to look how other MOAC teams perform outside of the conference. The good news is the MOAC teams will tell us how good they are in the remaining non league games and at tournament time.

I’m not trying to pick a fight. You just arbitrarily lumped four teams together and said “they” are a combined 6-13 in non conference games. One of those teams is 4-2 the other three are 2-11. Sesame Street says “one of these is not like the other, one of these is not the same.” I’m not suggesting Shelby is a world beater, but their non conference record does not match those other three teams.

Shelby definitely not world beaters but their wins over Lex and Ashland, as well as Granville, are ones they can look back on when tourney time rolls around. Those are the types of wins a young team needs to know what it takes in tight situations. And consider each of the wins above was not in their home gym (Granville was at a neutral site). Plus they still have to travel to Mansfield Senior in a couple weeks.

It’s no surprise that he leaves Madison and now Madison is having one of their better seasons in the past 10 years, while Ontario is struggling.
