I don’t know the final stats, but at the half the two most important were SR 25-12 rebounding edge and Shelby around 30% from the field. Most of SR’s rebounds were offensive. I’ll bet the second half was similar. Shelby’s poor shooting was self inflicted not tight defense. They were missing good looks they usually make. SR has a legit beef with the officials. They completely changed the way they called fouls in the second half. They called everything which they didn’t in the first half and does not help a team that plays physical defense. The better team won, but not the team that played with better effort.

Seemed like the officials tighten things up which obviously favored the whippets. Good team win by the whippets who like you said didn’t shoot well or rebound.

I will agree with the inconsistencies with fouls. A lot of touch calls went Shelby’s way in the fourth quarter. But then the obvious stuff was ignored (i.e. Bruskotter getting tackled in front of our student section). Good team effort despite the adversity of your best player being hampered with foul trouble. And once again, Karsen Homan just puts this team on his back and won’t let them lose. Great contributor off the bench and his minutes were vital to the outcome. I thought Hartz’s fire and defensive intensity were much needed in the second half also at a time when we hadn’t matched their toughness all night. Survive and advance is all that matters at this time of year though. Bring on Lex!

Several differences between Shelby in December and now when these teams first met. One, Karsen Homan has become a key factor in Shelby’s game plan. His effort and hustle off the bench has become contagious. Opponents also have to respect him from 15 feet and in as he has shown a strong ability to knock down those jumpers. Two, Casey Lantz is playing with a ton of confidence the last month of the season. Taking the ball aggressively to the basket and finishing really well. And three, the Whippets are sharing the ball. As I have stated in earlier posts, they are close to 20 assists each night.
I agree that if Shelby is on their A - game tonight they win by double digits. Let’s Go Whippets!

I predict Shelby by 5 over Lex and R Valley by 7 over Bishop Hartley. Good luck to the Whippets and the Vikings.
