And with that, the 10 year era of the 4 team playoff gets bookended by the Big Ten, with both of those titles involving close wins over Alabama in the semis and 3 score NC game wins that were broken open in the 4th quarter against a member of the Cascade clash rivalry.
It's interesting that for Michigan this is the second straight time that one of their national championships happened in the season before a major change was made to the championship format. 1997 was the last season before the BCS began, and now 2023 in the final season before the playoff expands to 12. Going back further, they also had their 1948 title occur in the second to last season before the coaches poll was created (1950) and their 1933 title occured in the 3rd to last season before the AP poll was created (1936).
Speaking of the coaches poll, this will be Michigan's first time hoisting the crystal football (yes, it is still a thing)

Man, you look back on these threads and McCarthy was called little JJ. Beat OSU 3 straight years, win the Natty and that narrative changed.

Do possible sanctions make hiring a replacement coach harder?

Harbaugh bailing… I wanted to see that putz take one more loss to OSU, especially since the NCAA sanctions should still be coming. He’s taking his ball and going to LA… good riddance dipshit!

Do possible sanctions make hiring a replacement coach harder? IMO that's probably why scUM will stay in-house for the replacement

I don’t think the NCAA has the spine to do anything anyway. They’ll give them a symbolic slap on the wrist.

NCAA is going to smack them unless they self impose penalties.

NCAA is going to smack them unless they self impose penalties. They’ve done some of that, but is it enough!? And if they hire the new coach in house, meaning it be Moore, how long until he gets fired as the head of a sanctioned Michigan who will struggle mightily to win again? Just think back to Rich Rod and Brady Hokes days and the whining… At one point, I had to really torment some of them up here so they could remember it was a rivalry.

I don’t think the NCAA has the spine to do anything anyway. They’ll give them a symbolic slap on the wrist. This is so true. They have already had the evidence. They know what was done. The Big Ten and UM actually took action already so denial is not an option any more. The fact that they let games play out with nothing being done has little relevance now. And with the cheater gone and cashing in on a big contract, he will never seen anything for his actions.

I don’t think the NCAA has the spine to do anything anyway. They’ll give them a symbolic slap on the wrist. that's all they CAN do. Anything else, especially UM and their excellent Law School, will rip the NCAA to shreds
