Haslem calling for good character employees is like...
...well you know where I'm going with this.
I don't see any QBs or WRs who blow me away in this draft. Who do you haters want us to pick? Malik Hooker is the best talent in this draft imho.
You gotta take the best players. Would you rather have the 2nd coming of Sean Taylor on your team or someone who ends up being the 25th best DE or the 17th best LT or the 28th best WR? This is NOT an impact draft but Hooker is an impact player. Getting those types of guys is what changes your franchise. Sean Taylor was the 5th overall pick and I don't think he had Malik Hooker's ball skillZ. South is right that past results are not indicative of future results, but OSU DBs have generally fared very well in the NFL over the last decade and a half, and NFL people put stock in that to a certain extent.
I think Hooker is the best player in the draft and I would target him if I were an NFL GM. Do I think he is going to save this awful franchise? Oh sweet mercy no. But that doesn't change anything I've said.

Jamal Adams is actually rated higher than Hooker. If it could be possible to draft them both (trade down with Chicago or NYJ) they would set themselves up at the safety position for the next 5 years. Adams is more of an in the box player and Hooker is a centerfield type

Seen few talking about browns taking a WR. I doubt it unless late round. Lot of young ones rn still capable of being good.

Adams is more of an in the box player and Hooker is a centerfield type I could get on board with getting two safeties. I don't think our CB play was too terrible this year, but I struggled to find a safety make a play. Browns have the assets to identify the player they want, and move around in the draft to get him.

They need talent upgrades at so many positions. Can ill afford to miss on their player assessments. I want to see at least three starting-caliber players from this draft, regardless of position. Early picks should be no-brainers, pro-bowl caliber players as they develop.

Think about this, Hooker has only played THREE years of football. 2 years in high school and 1 for Ohio State.
After Hooker....O-lineman, O-lineman, O-lineman, WR, O-lineman, O-lineman, O-lineman.

Pass on Hooker. I don't think he turns out to be much in the NFL.

Interesting press conf with Gregg Williams today. He emphasized the need to get max effort and toughness out of his players, regardless of their inherited talent. I wonder how the Browns will rate guys like Solomon (Stanford) and Foster (Bama) who, to my eyes, exhibited more intensity in their bowl games than say Myles Garrett (A&M), the purported top talent in the draft.

Pass on Hooker. I don't think he turns out to be much in the NFL. Really?? He only played 2 years of football in high school and 1 year for Ohio State. Most his age have played for 9 years by now. Many experts compare him to Ed Reed, the best Free Safety in NFL history.

I'm very high on hooker. In 1 year was the best safety in country.

I think the Browns go:
Garrett at 1
OJ Howard at 12
with an outside chance they trade up from 12 to get Hooker from/before the Chargers.
Wouldn't be surprised if Mahomes or Watson end up in Cleveland. Personally, I think interest in Trubisky is a smoke screen.
If the Browns grab Garrett, Howard/Hooker AND are able to somehow get someones first next year, I would call this an extremely successful draft regardless of the other picks.

Browns don't think Watson will be a franchise QB and trade the 12th pick.

I think I agree.
A lot can change in a year, but I'd take Darnold, Rosen or Jackson in 2018 over Watson. I'd probably take Darnold over him right now.
I'm hoping for a trade up from 25.

Believe it woulda been Conley if he wasn't taken right before. But I love the picks made. Even peppers. He's gonna do good at whatever position they have him. SS on ball sounds like the fit. Njoku is a BEAST wanted him at osu couple years ago.

that was the worst draft ive ever seen
Peppers is a bum. We gave up the 12th pick this year for a 1st rounder next year from a team who will make the playoffs, so a 12th for (2) 25s?
So we are really rolling into the season with Kessler and Osweiler as our Qbs? We sign a Qb guru as our head coach then we don't draft a Qb for him until the 3rd year of his regime?
We could have grabbed Jonathan Allen at 12 and had Garrett and Allen. Or grabbed Malik Hooker.
And who the heck is Peppers going to defend in the pros? They moving him to LB? Where is he going to play? Not S?! Not Corner!
just awful...and i'm not even a huge Garrett fan...but to come out of the 1st with him and Allen would have been pretty good

We could have grabbed Jonathan Allen at 12 and had Garrett and Allen. Or grabbed Malik Hooker. I hate the Peppers pick and not just because of the college he attended. The browns could have walked away last night with Garrett, Allen at 12 and then the trade up could have been Foster. I'm baffled like every year. The only positive to me is they didnt take one of the 3 qbs that were taken early

Idk, I liked our draft.
I mean, I would've taken Howard or Hooker at 12, but going in, I was hoping:
They didn't screw up #1. I don't think they did.
Gained a 1st for next year. Check
Didn't draft a 1st Round QB.....especially kizer
The more I see of Njoku, the more I like.....minus the dropsies. Makes the pass of Howard at 12 ok.
Passing up Hooker for Peppers....idk about that one.
I do think people are overselling the 2018 Texans. I just don't see them as a playoff team....I don't even see them as a good team.
Allen would have been nice, but those medical flags on his shoulders...And I wouldn't be surprised if the Browns dropped Foster off his draft boards completely.
I'm happiest about the 1st next year. This year shows that you need assets to grab a 1st Round QB, even scrubs. Price to move up next year will probably be higher given the QB talent, but the Browns won't have to mortgage their future to do it...like the Texans just did. or like the Rams did last year.

Foster could have been off the board its possible. I'm fine with the TE pick. Not a lot to go on there so I cant love or hate it really.
I just think with all the defensive talent in this draft, they missed the mark like usual

I just think with all the defensive talent in this draft, they missed the mark like usual That's something I found surprising...this was a defensive 1st Round, yet all these teams grabbing the flashy O players early. Mind boggling. All the QBs are 2nd Round QBs at best. McCaffrey Top 10? Glass John Ross? Yeah, the Browns passed on Allen, Foster and Hooker, but so did a lot of other teams. Allen was a top 3 pick, Foster top 5 and Hooker wasn't making it past the Chargers. They all dropped, so whatever the Browns saw that made them pass on them, quite a few teams also saw.

I was shocked at the 3 qbs and 3 wr's going so quick like you said.
And I get your point about other teams passing too but just feels like it could have been a lot better last night

I'm just happy that none of the picks were Brandon Weeden.
Foster=Rolondo McLain
Watson=Troy Smith 2.0
Hooker and Allen tho....I'm not sure, I guess we'll see how that plays out.
I'm fine with Osweiler and Kessler this year. Suck *** one more year please.
Kessler is a 3rd Round pick from last year. He needs time to see what you have. I'm also a guy that thinks we gave up on our 3rd Round QBs too fast previously....McCoy/Frye. You can't take a 3rd Round QB and expect him to show you he's the QB of the future in his first season.
I know I'm in the minority, and I can't excuse some things, but I think what The Browns FO has done since they've been here is beautiful regardless of the record. Build the team, gain assets....final piece should be your QB. Gives whatever QB we finally jump on a greater chance to succeed.

how many pro bowlers for the Browns after 18 years?

listening to some Browns fans and I'm glad they aren't running the team.
"I'm 54 years old, I want a QB with my 3 first rounders" So you want to reach on another Manziel or Weeden, etc
"Where's our QB, you can't win without a QB" Correct, and if all the QBs stink at the top of the draft and you went 1-15 last year then why gamble on one when you have a ton of needs

I was really disappointed to see them pass on Hooker and Allen at 12, and Foster later. However, if Williams can get as much out of Peppers at strong safety, as they seemingly expect, their decision at least has solid rationale behind it. Turning two 1st round picks into three productive starters (a key aspect) and getting another 1st rd pick in 2018 to boot is huge. I don't recall them doing anything like this in the past.
