The scrimmage at BV certainly wouldn't seem to bode well for Lex this year.

I'm hearing conflicting reports on whether the stover kid played though. If he didn't play I'd think that would make a difference!

Couple things of note, then my thoughts on how things will play out this year.
Only 7 teams this year, all teams are either D2 or D3. With the extra non conference game it will be interesting to see how that helps or hurts teams chances of getting into the playoffs. I like that teams have branched out and scheduled a lot of new teams from all over. Here is how I think things will shake out this year.
1. Mansfield Sr. - I was surprised to see how small of a roster they have, but then I remembered they are a D3 team now. Crazy how things have changed. That said they have a ton of talent and should finish in the top half. I will pick them 1 for right now.
2. Wooster - Coach Hass has done something that many before him tried and failed, and that is build a consistent winner. The talent has always been there but they are finally running a program that is consistently successful. They also have Trey Mathis back at running back, who might be the least talked about star in the OCC.
3. Ashland - Ashland has a good Sr class, brings back last years starting Qb Keegan Armitage and some good wide receivers. They do have some holes to fill on defense, and have a pretty tough non conference schedule. I look for the Arrows to finish in the top 3 when all is said and done.
4. Lexington - Lost some really good players last year, but bring back a great one in Cade Stover. Should have a solid Oline, but questions remain about the offense. The schedule is pretty easy, with Orrville,Ontario and Thomas Worthington. Should still be a 7-8 win season.
5. Mount Vernon- Honestly don't know a whole lot about them still. They could be lower or might surprise some teams.
6. Madison - Not sure what to think about the Rams. Had one of the best players in school history last year and came away with 2 wins, including 1 to a team that didn't win a game. I'm sure they will be looking for a rebound year, and have got some things turned around, but I cant see them finishing much better then 500.
7. West Holmes - Struggled last year. They have a new coach so things will be different. I'm not expecting them to climb to far from the bottom though.

unc4life, I can see the top 3 separating themselves from the rest of the pack. Mansfield would be my favorite also. I may switch Ashland and Wooster but no major reason other than coaching. Lexington has a couple players that could be very good. Unfortunately they can only play one spot at a time and the holes on this team may be to big to fill for another run for a 7 win season. Mt Vernon was 2-8 last season but could see 5 wins this season with some consistent play. I expect another 2-8 season from Hudson's rams. West Holmes has a shot to climb out of the basement in week 5.

From the reports I've heard the Rams aren't any better than Upper or Galion so they had better have couple of real cupcakes lined up to get those 2 wins.

Looking at the Madison schedule I think it can be done. Although I did not see Madison with Galion or Upper we can remember that winning is not always the primary focus in pre-season when you have a lot of new players.

I'm not saying I don't think Ashland could win the conference this year, but their defense has me worried. Only 4 starters back, and they have moved a bunch of guys around. If they cant get some things sorted out early on, teams like Mansfield will be about to put big points on the board.

According to the MNJ Football Preview portion of their paper, it said that last year Senior had 3 Freshmen starters on their O-line. I had no idea.

Not looking like a good start for the OCC. But then again I didn't expect it to be.

Good news is I feel like the rest of the OCC should win tonight, except for West Holmes, I have no clue what they will do vs Triway. Also You can be pretty sure that Madison won't win the OCC this year.

Apparently the transfer pendulum has swung to Senior. Heck Madison even has more boys than Senior now.

Not going to lie Madison looked terrible. The only bright spots were Jackson and Roper. The oline is very weak and I wish we could have a starting qb as good as shelbys backup. Did you see that defense? I've never seen a Madison defense that bad.

Well the league this year is officially a dumpster fire. Other then Ashland and Mansfield Sr, everyone else loses. Wooster losing to Orrville might be the worst loss in school history. Lexington losing to Ontario is rough. If Ashland and Mansfield want to make the playoffs they better win their non conference games.

Wow - After last night I will revise my conference standings for the year. Wooster will be in the bottom three. Granted, they were playing without Trey Mathis and a very good defensive end, but it was a total team failure. The players seemed confused often, the coaches could not get the plays called within the 25 second clock and I would say over 50% of the plays were rushed. Give Orrville credit, their coaches had them prepared, but there is really no excuse for Wooster losing to them.

Interesting to see what, if any, improvements will be made from week 1 to week 2 for all the teams.

Mansfield will win the conference this year. I say they go 9-1 with their only lose coming to Toledo St.Johns

Mt.Vernons DLine is very good I watched them against Marion Harding but that's pretty much it their LBs are easily drawn in on Play Action and they rely way to much on their RB Daniels he's a stud QB is OK Harding's D held them to 3 yards entire 2nd half
