The OCC has always been a competitive league sending multiple teams to the playoffs over the years. Who is your favorite and why in 2017?

I really don't have much information on the teams this year but at this point my bet would be on Lexington.

Who will Lexington's QB be? I would love to see Cade Stover play there. Except if I was on defense and had to tackle him 20 times a game.

Interesting data. I can see where you could make a strong case for Ashland as well. Should be a good season.

From what I have been hearing it will be Cade Stover at QB for Lex.

Regardless, he's easily the best athlete on the team. At 6-5 225 he'd scare the crap out of me, if I'm the opposing coach.

Not if he can't pass well. The OCC is a big boy conference. If you make your offense one dimensional the other teams, for the most part, have good enough coaching and enough athletes of their own to shut you down relatively easily.

Outside of Ashland QB's can you name one from that big boy conference that has been an above average passer in the past decade? Being the athlete he is, it should be easy for him to become an average passer in his first year. He will be a monster as a runner for a QB. JMO

With them losing top receivers to graduation and Stover being one of them, the question may not be his passing skills but who could he pass to. A continued "wildcat" type offense could be stopped in the OCC. (i agree it's a good conference) Over the past 4 years the QB play has been good and the coaches are experienced in playing against a wide range of talent from that spot.

JMO Jalen Reese Mansfield Sr., currently at U of Toledo, broke all of his Offensive Co-Ordinator's passing records for the Tygers during his tenure, so there's one besides Ashland.

I would not call Jalen an above average passer. He was much better than that. But from immediate memory, Pfizenmayer, Bennington, Vore, Avery were all above average passers from the OCC in the past decade, as well as some other I cannot recall names. Orrville had a few guys go on to play college QB. West Holmes had a nice QB not long ago. Although their offense revolved around a ground game, when needed they had a guy who was above average in passing.

An above average passer should complete 60% of his passes, in an offense that throws the ball at least 40% of the time. If an offense runs the ball 80% of the time it makes it MUCH easier for a QB to complete a "surprise" pass and exponentially increase his %.

But I guess providing 1 outside of Ashland was all you were trying to do.

Just saw the Regions posted. Looks the like the 3 D2 teams in the conference are going to have a tough road. Wooster, Ashland and Mount Vernon are in region 7, along with the Columbus schools such as Big Walnut, Westerville's, New Albany, Dublin Scioto, and to top it off they threw in Massillon, North Canton Hoover and Uniontown Lake. Good luck with that.

Looks like everyone lost a lot to graduation which is the reason for the question, who is the favorite?

I'm going with Ashland and Mansfield.
Ashland- because they win year in and year out. They should be solid again like every year. Returns 8 all occ players.
Mansfield- was a extremely young team last year and still wasn't all that bad. With a year under there belt watch out . This team could end up being very good. Returns 8 all occ players and one of them is a D1 athlete.
Wooster- would have to be my 3rd place team with 6 all occ players back however they lose some very good talent.

Perhaps I spoke too soon on Lexington being the favorite. I was initially thinking that with Stover back again that they would be a contender. Still think they will be but I guess one guy can't do it by himself. Did not realize they lost that many key players from last year. While I would like to think Wooster will be a contender this year, I agree with hudson, that there are several key positions that have to be filled this year. Agree that Ashland is the most consistent year in an year out.

Ashland and Valentine have earned the respect of many with their consistent play to be a preseason favorite each year.

Getting closer to that time. To bad I won't be there to see any games this year as I moved to Florida.
1. Mansfield senior- I have a feeling they are going to be pretty good this year.
2. Ashland- returns quite a bit of talent and very easily could be number 1.
3. Wooster- I really don't know much about what they have coming back but they probably will be the 3rd best team.
4. Madison- they seem to have a little more talent then I was thinking they would have this season. However they did lose a starting DB to transfer and a starting linebacker to discipline.
5. Lex- I understand they have stover. That doesn't mean anything if they don't have anything to help stover. Ask Madison tyrell was by far a better athlete then stover and couldn't carry the team.
6. Mount Vernon- Its hard telling with Mount Vernon. They get easlily could be way up the list.
7. West Holmes- I can't see them doing much in the league Thisbyear.

I wish I had the time to run the pickem. Not only did I move to Florida but I also recently received my real estate license. I'm going to be very busy for awhile so unfortunately I won't be able to run the pickem.
