Lexington's Cade Stover now a tight end with NFL's Houston Texans. Congratulations! Make some magic with CJ Stroud... Being drafted is an incredible accomplishment. I don’t want to take anything away from that. I personally think he should have gone earlier. How many guys are as versatile as him? He started as a linebacker on an elite division one school. He was a leading receiver on an elite division one school. He’s obviously a locker room guy as a two time captain. He can contribute on every special team. Houston got a bargain, IMO.

And everyone will be happy that there are 75% more state champions failing to acknowledge that it’s only because we created more opportunities not because kids worked harder or got more dedicated.

Is it a public school’s fault that they hire a good coach that builds a successful program that good players want to be a part of? IMO absolutely not. Having the ability to draw from an entire city as a private school is absolutely an advantage. The former isn’t cheating in my opinion. If you want that to happen at your school then find the coach and build the program. The later should have rules to adjust the division they play in

Two differences in the game. Turnovers were around 10-2 and Maysville made more threes. They had a slightly lower shooting percentage, but more were threes.

I guess I haven't been paying attention lately but how long has it been since OHSAA moved away from the Thur-Sat games to the Fri-Sun games? I can't imagine Sunday attendance is as good as the Saturday championships games of the past. Dayton... bahh give me the old St Johns any day. Good luck Shelby. I know the OHSAA left the Schott because of what OSU charged them, but I agree. Maybe they could get St John’s cheaper and get it back to a more central location. The Schott was too big and usually felt empty.

So scoring makes you the best player on the floor? My argument for Lebron being better than Jordan is that Lebron makes everyone around him better. Power forward and on the top five all time assist list?!? Lebron could make me look good. Basketball is a little more complex than scoring. That’s a stat for people who don’t understand the game. If you don’t believe me who’s playing Saturday? Seen you play, no he couldn't. Some could argue not many know of Paxon, Wennington, Perdue, Cartwright, Grant, Harper, Longley and Kerr without MJ so he definitely made players better. Even Rodman could have faded off after Detroit if not for MJ, Scoring was all that was referenced, but as a 6'3 soph it was arguable for the single game assessment. That hurts…real bad. If you saw me play I was over 50. Not my prime if I ever had one. I’ll take the guy who has his team in the regional finals over anyone else in a pickup game. I’ve seen Bruskotter play. He’ll do the heavy lifting, but is smart enough to know the worst player is still the best option if he has an open layup.

Willard all his life then freshman year at Norwalk then back to Willard. So what you’re saying is Norwalk recruited him away then he came home? How many times are we going to rehash Willard recruited? Recruited means you actively went out and asked a kid to transfer into your school +/- offered some compensation. Does anyone think that really happened or was Willard just really good and if you were a gym rat in the 80’s you wanted to play on a really good team that would make a deep run YOU chose unilaterally to move in? I bet on the later.

As a neutral party I’ll say this. Let’s assume they are 18 and 16 respectively. Let’s also assume they both started with substantial instruction on basketball in the third grade (9 years old). What I mean by substantial is actually on a competitive team with a coach who knew something about basketball (probably not fair since Dawson’s dad is a coach, but eh). Dawson has had about 22% more time to hone his skills. He better be a more refined player or shame on him.
What none of us like to admit is that we all have a ceiling no matter how hard we work. One of the best high school players any of us have watched, Diebler, had a ceiling and it was a roll player on a good division 1 college team. Why? Because he was not quick enough to guard a two at the pro level and you can’t teach quick. You can maximize what you have, but there is a ceiling. It sounds like Dawson has done that and his ceiling is a good D2 college. It sounds like Fogle has a higher ceiling because with pure athleticism he and his teammates beat Dawson and his teammates twice. Maybe we should give Fogle two more years to see if he’ll put in the same work Dawson did and reach his ceiling. Or maybe he’ll squander his God given abilities. Who knows. It’s probably not fair to compare them now.

I don’t know the final stats, but at the half the two most important were SR 25-12 rebounding edge and Shelby around 30% from the field. Most of SR’s rebounds were offensive. I’ll bet the second half was similar. Shelby’s poor shooting was self inflicted not tight defense. They were missing good looks they usually make. SR has a legit beef with the officials. They completely changed the way they called fouls in the second half. They called everything which they didn’t in the first half and does not help a team that plays physical defense. The better team won, but not the team that played with better effort.

Shelby was deeper and bigger. Willard needed to play a near perfect game and Shelby just took advantage of our cold shooting and made a lot of easy shots on transition or offense rebounds. I expect to see Shelby vs Luth West at BG I haven't seen Lexington this year but somehow they beat this Shelby team in late December. Maybe Shelby has improved since then. I didn’t get to as many games this year as usual. I saw one early and was genuinely concerned. No ball movement. Everyone wanted to give the ball back to Bruskotter and let him either shoot or drive. It was bad. I’ve seen two games recently. They aren’t the same team. Great ball movement, everyone is scoring. They have improved a ton. Early on I was worried some great talent was being wasted. I’m not as worried now.

after they had already crossed half court with the ball too! And when the Shelby coaches questioned we were made to be the bad guys and got a bench warning. Just admit you made a mistake and bring the players back on the floor. Timeout was awarded and then the ball inbounded at half court. Neither team gets to complain the officials determined the outcome of this game. Do you mean the officials DIDN’T determine the outcome of the game? It was an over 20 point differential. The officials would have to lose their credentials if they influenced the game that much.

Jalke you honestly think the ncaa is gonna do nothing to the program just because the head coach took off and brought a number of assistants w him? I think the reason a lot of them left is they know something is coming and don’t want to be around a tough coaching situation. “ watch what they do, not what they say” You have more confidence in the NCAA than me. This is the organization that unleashed NIL and the transfer portal back to back without fully considering the ripple effect.

I didn’t say bigger. Bigger doesn’t always mean better. I think most would agree Lex is a traditionally good basketball school. Willard, too. Plus that’s a traditional rival. Most agree Madison is weak, but Shelby has played them for years. US and Ashland have been up/down, but again, they are teams Shelby has played for years. Non conference Shelby has three cupcakes. Madison, Ashland, and US. You can’t drop all your traditional non conference foes all at once. Again, I only see Findlay and OG as an attempt to beef up their schedule. The rest are local teams they play in most all sports. Sure. If the local team is traditionally good then they don’t need beefed up. You get rid of weaker competition and replace it with stronger. Shelby used to play Wynford. Are you suggesting Lex and Willard should be replaced with someone stronger? Fourteen games they have no choice. That leaves eight games to beef up the competition. They play three traditionally strong teams in the area in Lex, Willard, Mansfield Senior. They play state ranked OG and Findlay driving over an hour. That leaves Madison, US, and Ashland. Madison has been down a while, but has had a long standing relationship playing in football and basketball and BTW is significantly bigger (since you brought up bigger). Ashland in the very recent past has been competitive (and bigger). US, like most programs, has been up and down, but is a throwback to the old NOL. That’s one team you could argue could be swapped for a beefier schedule.

The MOAC is no NOL or SBC, but it’s the league Shelby could get in when the SBC kept migrating north. Shelby tried to get in the OCC, but they were denied. The players can’t be faulted for beating who is put in front of them and you can’t deny that Shelby has beefed up their schedule by putting some quality non conference opponents on the schedule. Lex, OG, Mansfield Senior, Findlay, Willard. Madison is a little weak. Ashland is usually better. US hasn’t been great., but all three of those are traditional non conference foes. Do true Shelby fans feel that playing Lex, Willard, Madison, and US is considered a "beefed" up schedule? Do some Shelby fans see themselves as a small school (itsy bitsy as WF would say) I suppose I could see why some may feel Mansfield and Ashland could be slightly in that category. Definitely agree that playing OG and Findlay is a step up this year. I didn’t say bigger. Bigger doesn’t always mean better. I think most would agree Lex is a traditionally good basketball school. Willard, too. Plus that’s a traditional rival. Most agree Madison is weak, but Shelby has played them for years. I will say toughness, physicality, and running the rock still works in any level of Football. Michigan employs slow death to teams by being methodical for 4 Quarters. Don't have to cheat doing well with those True story Cheating is less about stealing defensive signals and more about offensive signals. Defenses have to react to offenses. Knowing what play the offense is running takes away the need to react. You know where the ball is going. You can make an argument for their methodical offense wears people down, but it’s not relevant to stealing signals.

Was the guy just collecting data for a doctoral thesis? You don’t steal signs then not use the information. That’s taking all the risk and getting none of the benefits. Booger boy may not be the brightest bulb, but he’s not that stupid.

Pretty insane that it was this close with the Whippets shooting just 31%. If you watched the game you may know why. Even Lexington was 0% from the 3 pt line in the first half. I bet Shelby is used to uncontested layups and open shots. Last night they were contested in almost every way. Plus the ball was predictably in the hands of one player without much movement. Each player was left to try and create their own shot on many possessions. If we had stats I would think their close games with Ott-Gland, Harding and RV were with similar stats. I can understand your feelings though with such a veteran caliber team. I’ve not been a big fan of whatever offense they have run the last two years. There is a lot of passing around the three point line until they either chuck up a three or Bruskotter drives the lane. It doesn’t seem like there is a lot of movement without the ball or many screens.

Come on. Recruiting implies someone at the school actively went after a player. Promises are made. Transactions happen. Lexington’s move in most likely made that decision all on his own. He saw Lex was going to be good and Madison wasn’t. Does anyone on here really think anyone at Lexington made any offer to that kid either for playing time or financial gain?

I’m not complaining. I’m providing information to people who are complaining. The picture I saw isn’t even legal in wrestling. I would imagine there is some caveat in the rules book that says the ref and his whistle has final say at their discretion, but once a free throw shooter is handed the ball his routine is not supposed to be interrupted unless some rule has changed in the last few years. Providing information and providing facts can be different. OK, maybe not a complaint but now you are exaggerating with the wrestling comment. That play can be found in most games every weekend. But it's not a focus of anyone. I would provide the information that an official hearing a request for a timeout will have a delayed whistle because of a human response, just like a whistle for a foul. Again I can say this timeout was being called before the player had the ball. I wish I could post the picture. People were claiming it wasn’t a foul. In the picture captured from the video of the play the defender’s arm was in a position that if he had flexed his bicep completely his forearm would have gone completely across Bruskotter’s throat in choke hold. I think the fact of the matter is most people would consider that a foul. Nothing more, nothing less. I’m not faulting the ref. I never mentioned him. Someone early on asked what the official rule was and I was stating it.
