106-open 113-open (Sykes is out for the year with a knee injury) 120-Lara freshman 126-open 132 Connor Robbins senior 2x district qualifier 138 Caden Barnett sophomore 144 a move in from Bucyrus senior Colton Stanley 150 Aiden Bates sophomore 157 Nathan Cole junior 165 Shadrick Slone senior 175 have a couple younger guys possibly Ivan and Edwardo Lopes 190 possible couple kids, If they go out. One would be new and came to an open mat, the other I hear may focus on lifting. 215 Ricardo Lopes Senior 285 possible if he goes out
Few other guys that have showed up to open mats but not really sure of their weights yet. Hopefully we get a few more Friday at our first practice. Kind of a novice team but open mats have been super beneficial. I would like to get 5 to districts this year which would be a great accomplishment for us. I’m still learning the team and Ricardo and Shadrick are the only two from my jr high coaching days I know for sure are going out. I’ll have a better knowledge of the team Friday. I’m excited to be back with Coach Terry Henry and can’t wait to open up at the Edison Invite.

With a tight over all team race I see some adjustments with the 132 lb weight class and probably securing a team title. The top five team finish projections for 2022: 1) Edison 2) Tiffin Columbian 3) Bellevue 4) Oak Harbor 5) Clyde
Individual projected champs: 106 Abe Hermes Edison 113 Max Hermes Edison 120 Billy Smith Perkins 126 Lance Overmyer Clyde 132 Marcus Medina Edison 138 Bret Minnick Columbian 144 Cade Peterson Oak Harbor 150 Maddox Simcoe Columbian 157 Max Ray Columbian 165 Shadrick Slone Willard 175 Brody Conley Columbian 190 Josh Stanley Clyde 215 Evan Straub Bellevue 285 Brock Nunez Bellevue

Moving into the heavier weights where the ohsaa chose to change the weight classes from last year and possibly shaking the state tournament up a bit along with the SBC. At 144 in Division 3 ranked 6th from Oak Harbor is senior Cade Petersen as he will look to battle with Bellevue’s senior Justin Smythe as he holds 9th in D2 with junior CJ Poole on his heels at 10 from the talented Tiffin Columbian. Followed by 150 with another Columbian Grappler looking to Challenge Edison’s SBC streak is junior Maddox Simcoe as he looks to be the favorite ranked 4th in Division 2. Followed by Edison’s junior Duke Hermes ranked 8th in D3 for another showdown between these two favorite schools. Rounding out the competition Oak Harbor looks to hold the 12th ranked spot but to be determined with a wrestle off. H. Buhro and R. Jacobsen. With Oak Harbor having state ranked guys below and above this weight class they have what we call in the wrestling world a “log jam” which is a good problem to have as Oak Harbor is gonna make some noise in the conference as always. Rounding out the class is Lakota’s freshman ranked 21st Braxton Quaintance. Moving into the 157 weight class for another marquee match up we have the favorite ranked 3rd in Division 2 junior Max Ray from ……….Columbian! He will be challenged by Gibsonburg junior Connor Smith ranked 5th in D3. Jack Zeitzheim the senior from Oak harbor ranked 15th in D3 with Senior Keegan Schoen from Perkins ranked 13th in D2 will add to the mix. Heading into the 165 pound weight class we have the favorite, projected Division 3 State champ and Willard’s lone ranked wrestler in Shadrick Slone. He will be challenged by Edison senior Remington Bauer as he is ranked 9th in D3. While junior Landon Cook ranked 7th in D2 from Columbian will be looking to make his statement in the conference. All three challengers were teammates two years ago at Edison. This is what we call in the wrestling world “log jam avoided”. At 175 we have the nationally ranked and D1 college commit to the University of West Virginia. Returning state champ and projected once again, Senior Brody Conley from no other than Tiffin Columbian. His challengers will be division 3 ranked 3rd, senior Logan Lloyd from Edison as fellow senior from Clyde ranked 8th in D2, Cade Carroll. At 190 is 17th ranked D2 senior Josh Stanley from Clyde while Columbian has sophomore in the division ranked 20th in Manny Aller. Division 3 with a 19th ranking from Oak Harbor in junior Kenyon Adkinson to round out the weight class. The next weight at 215 has from Bellevue Evan Straub, the senior is currently ranked 16th in Division 2 while the challengers from Divison 3 will be seniors Jacob Thompson from Edison ranked 6th, Dylan Schiets from Oak Harbor ranked 14th and Lakota’s Spencer Franks ranked 15th. Finally moving into the 285 pound weight class we have senior from Bellevue Brock Nunez who I would predict the favorite here for conference as he is ranked 16th in Division 2. His competition from D3 will be Margaretta’ lone ranked junior at 13th Seth Stanley followed by 14th ranked senior from Edison Jackson Berardi.

An early look at the SBC conference from the Borofan rankings. Though it’s an early preseason rankings and much will change with weight classes it gives an insight to how tough the SBC conference is. Looking forward to seeing the Lake Division once more returning with the Bay/River Divisions giving it the strength to be one of Ohio’s toughest wrestling conference tournaments! Forty one individuals are ranked in the top 24 in Division 2 and 3 in the state this year. Starting at 106 the favored SBC champ comes from no other than Edison with the house hold name in wrestling of Hermes. The freshman Abe is currently ranked 2nd in Division 3 and has no other state ranked competition at this time in the preseason rankings. At 113 we have the returning and projected D3 state champ, Abe’s older brother from Edison junior Max Hermes. Max will have his hands full in conference and the Division 3 state tournament with Oak Harbor’s Senior Michael Judge who is currently ranked 3rd. Rounding out the field is Perkins Sophomore at 19th Wyatt Nemitz. Standing alone at 120 and ranked 3rd in the state at D2 is senior Billy Smith from Perkins. 126 will be another excellent showdown between Division 3’s 4th ranked sophomore, Marcus Medina from Edison as he will take on another sophomore from Clyde, Lance Overmyer who is respectfully ranked 6th in Division 2. The only empty weight class with no one ranked is 132 where we will probably see movement by schools trying to capitalize on an individual gold. Followed by the deepest conference weight of 138. This could be possibly the match up of the SBC championship as senior favorite from Columbian with a state runner up projection in D2 Bret Minnick. His greatest challenge is Edison’s very tough and talented sophomore Kohen Horvath as he is projected to climb the podium a few more steps from last year being ranked 3rd in Division 3. Not to over look the freshman sensation William Stanley lurking in the shadows from Clyde with a Division 2 eighth spot ranking. Rounding out this deep weight in D2 is Bellevue’s junior Clay Alley at 18th while D3 has Oak Harbor’s Junior Owen Miller at 11th. Followed up by Gibsonburg senior Antonio Villarreal at 24th.

FC should make this meaningful for Willard. Beat South Central and Plymouth and Willard replaces NL as a football only member next year Why football only? Football is really the only sport where 9 messes up the schedule. Two more games in a lot of other teams sports which would wouldn’t hurt scheduling in those sports. Would be good for competition in wrestling for the conference bracket that is quite thin and probably good for other individual sports. Only problem would be tennis and swimming and I would think bowling where FC doesn’t have those sports for the conference. But I don’t know what conference Willard could be in with Football only in FC.

New London can join Danbury and SMCC in the SBC puddle division and Willard can join the Firelands

All sports? Absolutely not! Now football, fine. But they have wrestling but I think old fort and new riegel should!!! Why do you think Old Fort and New Riegel should go independent for sports? Neither has football, so they don't cause scheduling problems there. Both traditionally field very competitive teams in other boys and girls sports.
I said fine for st Mary’s going independent for football only but they have wrestling (sarcasm) How is Old Fort’s and New Riegel’s wrestling programs? (more sarcasm) want to be upset then be upset with the SBC for not doing a two year probation period. This is gonna get a lot more common for the River division and other smaller conferences (no sarcasm)

I had heard a Willard kid transferred to Norwalk, but wasn't sure if source was reliable. I'm thinking this kid is for Football as well? If so, if you combined both sports, then presumed logic is Norwalk>Willard. Yeah I think football was the reason, not basketball

Crestline is holding for you on Line 2. I think the idea is cool. I may disagree starting it at Willard, but won't be distraught if it did. Well I’m from Willard and Crestline doesn’t have wrestling. But if they ever do then I would most definitely take that call!

Been throwing around the idea of having an NOL wrestling tournament for regular season in the future. Whether an individual bracket or pool or even a dual tournament. Talked to some wrestling coaches at former NOL schools and seems to be some interest. Definitely would like to get the 1944 teams and Columbian. Willard Norwalk Shelby Upper Sandusky Bucyrus Bellevue Galion Columbian Then you have Fostoria, Sandusky, and Ontario I think ten teams would be good if a dual tournament so you can easily do five duals in a day. But individual would be fine too. Could even do extra for that if necessary.
I would like to have it at Willard for the 2022-2023 season. But if other schools would like to host then it could rotate for those interested. The host school could even do a tribute for past NOL accomplishments. Whether showcase in commons or acknowledge individuals, coaches and teams of the host schools past.

The River or N-10 would be good landing spots for Willard. Travel in the River would be a little rough for Willard though. True, but it is pretty well known (unofficially) Willard isn’t getting in the N10

Let’s say this rumored school is Sandusky. That would leave 10 total teams left in the SBC. Tiffin Columbian Norwalk Bellevue Clyde Perkins Vermilion Port Clinton Huron Edison Willard In my opinion this divisions thing hasn’t worked and needs to end and soon. IMO no way would Willard or Edison want any part of that league. Maybe Edison would look to join up with the River at this point? Willard could go their own way. How about this for the new SBC TC Bellevue Clyde Norwalk Perkins Vermilion Port Clinton Huron Willard can go their own way? their own way has been trying to get in the River!

Anyone think that SMCC should just go independent for all sports. They are just to much of a liability. Also with Edison’s enrollment would they be a good fit for the River Division? Not sure if anyone has brought that up or not. All sports? Absolutely not! Now football, fine. But they have wrestling but I think old fort and new riegel should!!!

If his family is buying a home in Columbian school district then nothing else really matters at this point. Football season hasn’t officially begun and open mats for wrestling is legal. Don’t really see what is so shady about it

Well this meeting seems to be a mystery for me. When it is or if there will be a vote at all. 10th, 13th, 14th, and 17th seem to be the dates I’ve heard so far.

Date I heard the vote was to take place is June 13 - tomorrow. We shall see. So was it decided on June 10th to bring it to a vote on June 13th or has it always been schedule for the 13th. Also does anybody know what time this meeting is to take place if at all. Seems to be a lot of mystery on how things work in the N10. Basically I’m just curious for the official ruling as it seems to be predetermined that Willard and Marion Pleasant will not be admitted into the conference.

I'm big on the "Olympic" sports, as Gene Smith calls them, but as the case is at Ohio State to a lesser degree..... Football and basketball pay the bills in high school. Especially Football, Willard’s Football still makes more money than their basketball

sorry, but I am tired of this Willard needs the river stuff. They also need to establish a program and support it. Its time to just embrace the uphill battle it is going to be instead of complain about who gets to be in the river and doesn't have to move up. Its time to find a way to improve instead of looking for it to get easier. Hell they were 0-11 last year. There is nowhere to go but up. Agree 100% Perfect, good point

What if the N10 took in Willard and maybe another school who’s looking to move? I’m not saying there’s anyone else looking at the moment but maybe in a few years. The middle 4 we will call them of Huron, Edison, PC and Vermilion want no part of being in the Lake. Could you imagine some of those beatings. Those 4 would much rather figure out a way to be a part of the River then have to go through the gauntlet of the Lake each week for football. They would probably get beat as bad as three of the four beat Willard 🤷🏻♂️

No that has been established from other comments that when Shelby left Willard had to go to the Bay and I accept it after all. But I’m excited about one of the smaller schools coming to the Bay now with the exit of Oak Harbor. Willard will get a game with Margaretta or Lakota. Maybe a in a few years more River schools will be bumped up to the Bay and Willard could get Gibsonburg and Woodmore. I think if we could get really small schools in the River we could get more of the Bigger River schools in the Bay and bump Port Clinton to the Lake and make a really nice division for Willard. Thanks for your input, I’m going with the up lifted outlook and whether you want credit or not you have motivated my new direction of positivity. I wouldn't get your hopes up of a river school moving to the Bay... I'd say Willard's best hope is an acceptance to the N10 right now, which I think they would fit nicely into Yeah I actually realize this being the reality, I guess my comments stem from several other topics on the same issue. It started with the N10 and some saying why didn’t the SBC accommodate Willard in the River. I started out not really on the Willard Football program issue other than it affecting Willards decision for staying in SBC or leaving and my children’s sports which isn’t football. Being asked questions I try to respond with my limited knowledge of Willard administration point of view. Personally being neutral on it as I understand Football is king in high school decision making. (Is what it is) Then I was informed it was the right move to put Willard up from River to Bay. Ok we were the biggest enrollment school but now that Oak Harbor is leaving it doesn’t seem to be the same rules. Which is what I was kinda implying to start with. (It was really in good humor and making a point)So I made a comment for fun on this topic of the point used against Willard but now is off the table (which I already knew was the way it was gonna be) So maybe I didn’t articulate it very well but the picture coming to fruition all the same. Willard isn’t gonna be dealt with in any consistent manner. So Willard is looking for a football conference where they can have some competitive games and try and be 500. But as long as we have this forum I will comment every so often. I do believe the River will remain in tact or split. I know Willard will never be in the River again. I believe the N10 will not take Willard because they will not take Marion Pleasant. Willard will be in the Bay and will lose every Bay game more than likely for years to come. My kids sports, mainly wrestling and girls tennis will be better off in the SBC and I’m good but Willard will always be looking for footballs sake.

Hey thanks man, this is really motivating. I really gotta look in the mirror and realize 0-11 is a big zero. Thanks for pointing that out! Double standards are fine when your a loser. Thanks buddy for the life lesson. Good luck to you being a winner and showing me my place 👍. I’m gonna take this and build on it, today is a new day with a new direction. I am not trying to motivate anyone. If you take my comment personal than that is your choice. The fact of the matter is this, Willard is currently a Bay school and will stay there. The river talk is moot and not happening or it already would have. So you have two choices, find a way to get better and compete or find a new league. Its pretty much the only options. No that has been established from other comments that when Shelby left Willard had to go to the Bay and I accept it after all. Am I understanding everything correctly! Margaretta and Lakota will not have to move up to the Bay. As well as Vermilion and Port Clinton will not have to ever move up to the Lake...... is that in the bylaws? asking for a Willard friend sorry, but I am tired of this Willard needs the river stuff. During this re-alignment Woodmore, Gibsonburg and Lakota need to bind themselves together with Hopewell-Loudon joining them to make a power blocK. These 4 schools could have saved the SLL or MAL and made a tight geographical league with Elmwood, St. Joe, Calvert, North Baltimore, Northwood or some of their other River friends. If they stick together this time they will MAINTAIN good gates, reasonable travel expenses and weeknight games that make sense. The Bay and Lake need to go hunting for more appropriate members. Sounds like the conspiracy of River departure has begun! I think you might be on to something here.

Yeah we kinda went over that already but the example being Willard, therefore if Oak Harbor goes then the right move would be Lakota to the Bay. So we shall see how consistent things are if this scenario happens. 👀 Yes we kinda did. I still have hope for schools to accept the challenge of playing schools their size or bigger and being proud of it. Instead we have a seen a trend for schools wanting to search out schools with weaker teams then their own. We all know that most schools have changing enrollments. Have you followed Willard football the last 15 years?
